I'm a bit surprised by the response to this article.  I understand that people on this thread don't like the Ben/Ciara story, but the article itself is remarkable.

It seems like there are frequent requests amongst the fandom for DAYS to get coverage in mainstream press, so calling these rather artful pictures sacrilege seems to conflict with those desires.  Paper Magazine is known for their provocative photo shoots, (they're the ones who published Kim K's "break the internet" pics with the champagne bottle on her bootie).  The article itself was written by Micky Boardman, the main editor for Paper, and it avoids all of the mainstream soap articles tropes that call it a dead genre.  Both actors look very sexy in the photos, and the recreation, (which includes a spot-on digital background image of the Horton living room from the 70's), seems cheeky and fun.

It may be that people forget the original context.  Susan and Bill Hayes posed for the original Time cover with parody in mind.  The original Time article was about the increasing sexuality of soaps in the 1970's and and the cover pose was meant to convey the kind of overwrought passion being played in daytime.  Susan's cleavage and Bill's gestures are meant to be over the top, even camp.  It wasn't a screenshot, nor was it a profile of the actors, it was just an essay questioning the morals of portraying love in the afternoon.

I don't know if people would have preferred that Paper cover Mary Beth Evans' pies or Judi Evans' sartorial choices, but it would not have been a good fit with that magazine's audience.

I think the photos are really lovely--I mentioned how amazing the sets look.  I haven't read the article yet.  I only said the recreated TIME photo was "sacrelig'" because, in my opinion, Cin are literally the worst and their constant and very unwarranted propping (wether its comparing them to B&H, having Marlena be their quasi Fairy Godmother, or staging a photo nodding to one of the show's biggest pop culture moments) is nauseating to me.  I'm super glad "Days" and the genre are getting press and a splashy photoshoot that's way more elevated than anything we get as "Days" fans.  Perhaps I should have looked at this more macro and focused on the positives than my disdain for this ridiculous couple.  And noted that D&J were completely ridiculous considering the Addie/Hope angle . . . but that all happed 10+ years before I was born so I can't comment on wether or not their journey was similar to the 50th anniversary serial killer being exalted as a hero with little to no viable redemption arc while Ciara refuses to acknowledge the pain he inflicted across canvas, including her cousin (the show's then premiere heroine), who he intended to burn to death while absconding with her hours-old newborn.

Today's episode is terrible! Recreated flashbacks of Bonnie, Calista, and Harrison Lord? Talking about the stupid "buddy's burger bucks" or whatever? Are you kidding me?

I don't get why Ben and Ciara get airtime. They don't have anything resembling a story. Making out nonstop is not a story. It's time for them to ride off into the sunset.

Brady/Chloe/Philip is so stale. Gabi manipulating Philip is at least kind of funny because Philip is just such a loser at this point.

I'm only halfway through this episode and I'm not sure I can even finish. Awful!

I don't get why the writers are so insistent on giving us Rafe/Nicole. They're boring and I've never seen any fanfare for them. They just have the same scene over and over again and it's not at all interesting. I'd rather see them test out Nicole with nuEJ or even write her out (and I say that as someone who likes her!).

    • I never understood the point of Marchetti. Summer left the show for a job there in Italy. OK. When she returned they had Jack buy the company. Why couldn't Summer have returned and simply stated it was not a good fit, she missed her home , family/friends etc It was absurd that this internationally successful fashion empire could just be bought by a US cosmetics firm at the drop of a hat. What was the point when they never did anything with it at all? Summer simply could have gone to work at Jabot. And wasn't there some nonsense about an offshhoot called Marchetti Home? Was Phyllis attached to that at some point? This show...

    • Haven't seen today's ep yet but so will be interested to see the clothes. So far I think they have been very character specific (even if I don't like some of them eg Kat's cutsie style) Anita is very showy/glittery, Nicole classic elegance, Dani sexy/bold colors etc. Unlike Y&R which seems much more generic. Also BTG pays attention to the men's wardrobe and has developed a style for the boyz-which is harder to do with male fashion. The absence of any of Derek/Ashley at any of these big events again demonstrates how they are in a different universe to the rest of the show. Not that a nurse and a fireman would be there but still they seem destined at this point to stay in their own lane and have little interaction with the core of the show.
    • Agnes had written for Bernard Grant for many years on TGL as well as Ernest Graves and Joe Gallison,Doris Belack,Robert Milli, and  Antony Ponzini at AW. So she would probably gravitate to writing a role with an actor in mind or choosing someone she had written for before who she knew could deliver.
    • Once Johnny Dallas' cut himself off from Laurie Ann Karr and their son, and once Laurie successfully recovered from her mental problems, she wanted a new, fresh, and healthy start for the next chapter of her life. She legally reverted her name and changed John Victor's  surname to Karr. After moving to the country (when Teri  Keane was dropped from the show), Bill and Martha Marceau legally adopted Jennifer, the baby girl whom they had earlier taken in when the child's biological mother, Taffy Simms (and other bio family members) proved to be unfit to raise her. Jennifer legally and emotionally became a Marceau, and gave that name to her own daughter, whom Jennifer birthed through surrogacy as a single parent. Et...voila! The Karr and Marceau legacies live on.

    • BLQ is having second thoughts regarding putting her baby up for adoption. Chase is upset he can't tell Dante. So both are putting this on at lulus feet. Saying she is holding it over them. Lulu is doing none of this.
    • Yes she absolutely was involved in that story which seems to have gone nowhere.  She didn't start to remove herself from the writing until 1973.
    • Y'all are bringing back great memories of AMC 2.0 for me.  I haven't thought about it and the new characters in so long, well since it aired, and I plan to go re-watch it now. When AMC ended, I finally came to peace with it and accepted that I will never watch an hour of a TV show daily in my life again... something that I had been doing since I was 6-7 years old. I was starting a new career, relationship, and chapter in life when AMC 2.0 came out.  I found a way to watch it, but things felt differently for me at the time and when it was so short-lived and gone, it became such a distant memory, sadly.
