At around 2 hours and 22 minutes you get a minute or two of the show. I think this is a fragment from an episode that may have already been on Youtube years ago but I may be completely wrong.

An excerpt from a Nov 1971 article about soaps that details some LIAMST stories from that time.

...Next comes "Love Is A Many Splendored Thing. As it opens we see Sam, a paraplegic Vietnam veteran on his back in a hospital bed, His face is green (at least on my set) and he talks as if a rhino standingon his chest, He's telling Dr. Sandy Hiller how much he loves Betsy; a brunette medical student with a big nose but gypsy eyes, Trouble is, so does Dr. Hiller.

The doctor used to be able to cheat on his wife with no sweat because she was an invalid, but some other dopey doctor at the hospital had to go and spoil all that with a miraculous operation. Betsy tells Dr. Hiller she feels his wife now needs him more than ever since she's recovering. The doctor wants to talk about it. "If you don't meet me in an hour," he warns Betsy, "I'm going to run through this hospital from room to room shouting at top of my lungs. Now, you know I'd do that." Ah his is getting interesting. I take notes.

"Oh, don't write about this one," says my wife. I don't watch it as closely as the others. This is when I sit in the sun or keep chasing the dog out of the garbage. Besides , Betsy is flat-chested. Hmmnnn. Dr. Hiller apparently didn't think so. In between the shampoo ads and harpsichord music, he keeps promising he'll get a divorce in two weeks. (That means next winter in soap opera talk.) Meanwhile another scene shows Jean Garrison, a rich widow who has bas just stolen Dr. Peter Chernak, who is Betsy's brother, away from his pregnant. wife, Angel. Mrs Garrison is a fund-riser for Dr. Peter's very own research center, She also raises his blood pressure. "I couldn't concentrate on my lab work," he says. "So I thought I'd just concentrate on you." But he's brooding about his wife. "I'm a bona fide rat," he confides .My wife agrees. "He's such a mealymouth,"she says.

Mrs. Garrison, just to give you some some background, was married to a newspaper owner who died of a heart attack. Their step-son, Spencer, is a prominent lawyer who lives in San Francisco (a real city) and is married to Iris, who for awhile was pregnant and had an incurable disease at the time. Zowie. What a race. Insiders say what really was happening was the girl who played Iris was having a pay dispute and the producers threatened to kill her off anytime with her disease. Finaily they settled and in one day she got a miraculous cure. Four months later she left the show anyway. The girl who took over for her used to be on the Edge of Night. "She's not half as pretty as the real Iris", grouches my wife....

don’t know if this has been noted previously

a 1978 episode of love boat was on in the background and noticed donna mills and david birney — laura donnelly elliott and mark elliott from liamst. a very soapy plot: there’s a possibility they were half-siblings, and birney’s character was a former soap actor.

also found up that they had both been in a 1976 episode of hawaii-50.

Thank u so much. Since the OLTL audios appeared from the 1977-1978 era I was hoping someone had some recordings of other soaps from the 70’s!

This gives me goosebumps and to see that he even has another finale episode from where the heart is makes my day! I wonder if that person has some more at home.

Enjoyed listening to it

Thanks @DRW50 That final speech from Judson Laire. I'm sure many viewers were shocked to find out the show would not be returning on Monday.

There would have been ads for Y&R but nothing about it replacing other soaps.

I wonder why Love of Life and Secret Storm escaped the axe at that time? Why WTHI and LIAMST were chosen?

They must have been upset. This is one of the few times a soap directly said goodbye with a fourth wall break so at least they cared for their audience.

I know Secret Storm had gotten some buzz over the priest story. I'm not sure if that had an impact. An SOD article from 1984 suggests WTHI was canceled because they wanted to get younger viewers. I don't know what the reason would have been with LIAMST - maybe they thought viewers weren't interested anymore with all the cast changes.

Thank you @GymnastGuy and @DRW50 !

Any old soap material resurfacing is always a major treat!

Thanks for the tag, @DRW50 !

I don’t know how to embed anymore, but Mitch S has posted an episode from 1970. Not sure if it’s been up before, but Michael Zaslow is heavily featured.

LIAMST 1970 720p

I don't know how to embed anymore either so I just post the link and whatever happens happens.

I have some vague memory of parts of this episode (mainly Beverlee with her son), maybe from saynotoursoap or WOST, I don't know. Even if it had been up before I don't think it is as present so I'm glad to see it again. For a long time the only episode I saw was the one from 1968 so I'm glad a few from 1970 are around now. Hopefully something else shows up in our lifetimes, like the finale gift we got.

I have never seen that 1970 episode before. According to records Zaslow was either a temp Peter or short lived in the role. He was on role on SFT in 1970 also.

He made a strong impression in his scenes.

Poor Mrs Johnson-the butt of jokes because she was an efficient secretary but not young or pretty enough for Pete. He needed some eye candy in his office!

Beverlee also made her presence felt. She knew how to do icy and manipulative.

Time slot change in 1972 due to P & G wanting all of their soaps to air together as a group caused LIAMST to move from it's long time time slot that had netted them decent ratings to a new time slot with heavier competition.. and it was gone within six months.

I believe Love of Life got a mini surge in the ratings that saved them from being canceled.. not sure about The Secret Storm except that their ratings didn't drop as fast as LIAMST
