The problem is most of the older viewers who would use a streaming service are probably not who would be sitting through a soap, especially not one that is as poor as DAYS has been in recent years. I hope they make it work but this feels like a death sentence to me.

By this time next year GH will be exclusively on Hulu... It would make common sense to air classic episodes of all the canceled soaps on streaming apps. The subscribers would go through the roof. I would love to see Gillian Spencer as Viki on One Life To Live before Erika Slezak joined the show. But the networks are too cheap to pay residuals and licensing fees for music.

I agree from the perspective that there may not be a big marketing push, given that most entertainment talk shows will be on hiatus in August, to inform current viewers of the switch.

I always use the example that Y&R switched time slots in LA over a decade ago, and I no longer know what time it airs.  It is hard to break old habits.

The PAINFUL Truth, I really wanted to Days To Survive until 2026, as I Hope GH will at least reach it's 60th Anniversary, I'll seriously try to see how I could get myself to influence the producers into doing a decent Anniversary next year, it's a Milestone Budget should be easier to justify than usual

With individual streamers existing now for major companies, Netflix and Hulu may have issues as they lose back catalog. Hulu may also be in trouble with NBC pulling their shows to Peacock and Disney+ added some shows that are more graphic than GH, so it isn’t the destination that it once was. The European equivalent has everything both Family Friendly and not on Hulu and Disney Plus too, so it goes back to contracts. It may be a known brand, but it may be less for streaming network shows and if there are not enough originals people may unsubscribe if all they use it for is time shifting shows that are now on other streaming sites.

getting back to Days since the show is streaming only in the US thankfully Canadians can still watch, they should start making the format more palatable for online viewing. There is no need to flashback to something that happened a day or week before typically unless they are giving new information. With how far ahead they are we probably won’t get changes for a long time which makes it more annoying.

I do wonder if Days and Peacock will provide help to set up the app, as it is not available on all smarttvs, and if you only have a phone watching something longer is a pain. So they should team with Roku or something….

I personally would watch the Bill Bell years to pinpoint elements he later used on Y&R/B&B and also to see the actors/actresses he later cast on Y&R/B&B

My guess is that most Days fans would watch 1983-1998 as those 15 years encompassed the supercouple era and Reilly's sci-fi era.

That sounds more soapier and compelling that anything currently airing on JG’s Y&R.

Someone mentioned Peacock’s woes, yikes I didn’t realize it was this bad. Typical of NBCU though:

LOL I was wondering  what his response was going to be.

    • I really have no problem with Kai as a character or with the actor. The problem is putting together two very nice people -- Kai and Trina. Neither of them has a bad side, neither of them has a devil on the shoulder, neither of them is impulsive. I think that's a problem in a soap relationship. Yeah, I agree. All this freaking out might make sense if Lulu wanted to do a tabloid expose on BLQ's LOVE CHILD. We have no indication that's the case.
    • So Sonni would have somebody to talk to who she wasn't conspiring with (Will or Alan)? Alex kept telling Sonni how important her friends were...when she had virtually no friends. Instead they created loyal servants like Jane and Vera to give Alex people to play off of. They did that with Iris on AW, but Vivien was mostly there for comic relief Alex keeping Marah's paternity a secret was absurd. But I still love the scene between Alex and Alan where he convinces her by reminding her how they protected each other from their abusive father. Chris and Bev ATE that scene. Unfortunately, that took place only a few months before he exited the show...always thought they could have built on that, explored more how being Brandon's children screwed them both up. Maybe even used it as an explanation for the way their relationship could constantly swing from hatred to love. Instead of it being merely dictated by the plot.
    • The first one is Cass Winthrop dressed as Krystle Lake on Another World (not from his original creation of the character to hide from the loan shark Tony the Tuna, but at a romance convention trying to find out what had happened to Felicia who was missing). The second one is also Another World, Jake McKinnon as Doris although I don't recall what his purpose was.
    • I know there was one brief scene in the summer of 1989 where Lillian did mention Calla.. but in relation to her past relationship to Ross and it was to Roger while he was a patient at Cedars.  I think he was trying to pump her for information on Ross.. and for some reason, Calla's name came up.   I could see perhaps Beth mentioning that her mother Lillian was visiting Calla.. but not exactly giving any sort of details as to the going ons in Calla's life off screen.

    • They're neither great nor terrible AFAIK, but it is more a question of the streaming numbers in this day and age vs. actual TV airings. The Chibnall era reminded me much more of the crisis years, but I do think it's a very real possibility now as well due to the streaming bubble collapse affecting the show and its prospects.
    • ANYTHING to get her off the screen..she COULD have been interesting if she and Van had a few face offs..(there was a mild one of her going back to work...but I wanted something meatier "Bitch, I am Vanessa Chamberlain and I don't take advice from someone who followed the..career path you did!" I did like Alex's outright disdain for her.
    • Thanks @Vee for the commentary.    I haven’t even watched this season yet after  I couldn’t get past the couple episodes last season…like it was too Disneyified for my taste, although I did think it was a least better than the Chibnall era (but so is a lot of things). I’ll probably go back and binge it now. Hoping this season ends on a high note. I did read the ratings are terrible. As it stands I’m beginning to feel like what long time DW fans felt with S26 in 1989.
    • Yes, they are all on contract. Next.
