Better yet, as Cane heads out of GC in order to meet up w/ Lily, he swerves to avoid a head-on collision with a drunk driver, loses control of his car and smashes into a telephone pole, killing himself instantly.

I don't even watch this show anymore but even I know that man, this was long overdue!

It probably became obvious after Neil and Lily were no longer in GC that there really was no use for him.

TIIC tried to give him a reason to stick around by pairing Cane with Traci and he alienated a veteran and probably some longtime fans by rejecting that pairing.

DG's fans are also to blame, tbh.  Cane and Lily were a bore for years because you could not pair them with anyone else, not even temporarily or their fans would go ballistic.  What else can you do with characters whose fans are so vehemently that they never break up, even temporarily??  That's half the drama on a soap!

So, Daniel, thank your fans for this parting gift as well, they were equally to blame as your funky attitude.

Let this be a lesson to JM, MS and any other actor who believes that they and their fans are more important than the show-- you're not, Y&R is a machine and it will roll on without you, even if it has to roll over you to do it.

JG hasn't really done much during either of his tenures at Y&R but he got this one right.

DG had several prime chances to reinvent his character and make him viable long-term outside of the Winters sphere. Sally Sussman gave him his one good story, made him into a rake and a morally dubious character who could've run on the show for years as an antihero/lothario. He hated it and rebelled because he wanted the perceived security of the tired Lane domesticity.

This regime paired him with decades-long audience favorite Beth Maitland - an audience surrogate for whom Goddard easily slots in as a classic daytime TV 'dream man', with built-in approval - and he publicly disrespected her and tried to hide behind the skirts of his only fanbase in the hopes of staying an A-lister.

Goddard is one of many soap stars who have become dependent on their cosseted fanbase at the expense of all else, and he should've gone after he bucked Sussman if not much earlier.

Glad to see Daniel Goddard and Cane gone.  Y&R should re-cast Lily since Christel Khalil doesn't want to be on the show permanently anymore.   I used to like Goddard & Cane, but the writing of Cane has made him a total douche, and looks like for a reason since Goddard seems like he is in real life too, especially the way he treated Beth Maitland!
