I thought it deserved its own thread from the current episode thread so that we can discuss the classic episodes as they air.

It seems like this time around they tailored the writing to make it seem like Traci had more animosity towards Dina then Ashley the last time around. This is based off of the other November 1991 I’ve seen around this time. I guess they figured BE was too soft to go against MA??

That was something else that was bothering me the other day. Did Dina and Traci have much interaction back on Dina’s original run in the 80s? From the episodes I’ve seen from the 80s, Dina has interactions only with John, Jack and Ashley. It’s almost as though the Dina/Traci relationship was non-existent back then.

Funnily enough I recall a synopsis update from 1996 that I read years ago about the reactions of the Abbott kids when John and Dina announced their plans to remarry:

”Jack smiled, Traci didn’t, and Ashley stormed out.”

Such a beautiful summation of Dina’s relationship with her kids.

I recall a lengthy debate re: "Mamie" here at SON some years ago. The search box may turn it up.

I was involved in that debate (actually defending “Mamie”). My feelings on that have shifted.

Does anyone have the episode after Sharon's gala? I wish they would do back to back episodes. Even though the premise was silly (the miracle plant lol), it was the last good umbrella storyline for me. Everyone involved was on their A game.

I've never seen Brenda Epperson's Ashley this much, I started watching long after she left, but I am loving her. I like her SO MUCH more than Eileen Davidson, who I think comes across as less an ice queen and more an icicle. Not a fan. But BE is hitting all the right notes for me, the ep someone posted yesterday where she's pissed at Victor for yelling at her was stellar. She went toe to toe with EB, which I find rare amongst his love interests.

I like Eileen Davidson, but yes Brenda Epperson really did a solid job at embodying the character and making her less spiteful.

If anyone is interested, here's the German version of Traci & Brad's first wedding.  It was originally supposed to be in church, but was changed to the Abbot house at the last minute because of the publicity after Jack's arrest for shooting Jill.

This is the one that's supposed to air monday. (I also just noticed that they blocked the German version of Danny's "It's Ok to Say No" concert, I wonder if that's a hint that one will come up? I think I have it in English somewhere anyway)

When I first started watching 20 years ago (lord), I posed the same question on a soap forum and got torn apart because "Mamie Eisenhower! It's just a NAME!". Bill Bell is a legend but...he knew exactly what he was doing.

Oh Lord that reminds of the Golden Girls episode of when Blanche reunited with her “mammy” played by Ruby Dee that made a “Mammy” Eisenhower joke.

They have been on YouTube for about a few months now during the Gala and after.

Thanks to @BoldRestless for posting that episode in German! Fascinating!

IMDB summary: "After receiving the results of Nikki's tests, a frantic Casey tries unsuccessfully to reach her sister. Both Victor and Matt charm their respective lovers during a lush dinner. Andy tells Lauren and Paul that Farren went missing. Soon after Farren returns and announces she's ready to face her past. JoAnna encourages John to have a face-lift."

Clarification: Casey tries to reach Victor about Nikki's tests. Casey isn't telling Nikki yet.

The part "Both Victor and Matt charm their respective lovers during a lush dinner" is actually this:

Matt takes Nikki on a date to the Colonnade Room. The auto-translate from German to English is a bit garbled but they both mention champagne a lot. I wonder what they are talking about?

Victor is dressed in a tux and invites Ashley somewhere private (I think maybe at his home?) and Ashley (Eileen D) arrives in a lovely gown and he speaks very passionately to her when she arrives.  They have a fancy dinner and then he gives Victor gives Ashley a boxed present - she opens it and finds a model of a fancy yacht inside and the boat is named "Forever Ashley". This is a model of the actual boat he is giving her as a for "Christmas". (Not sure of the auto-translation. Did he say early Christmas present now, or did he say it's being commissioned and will be ready by Christmas? ) He says he has never loved anyone in this way. They pledge undying love. He can't wait for his divorce to be final. Nothing could ever break us apart, etc.

FYI,  I think that IMDB summary had an error? From the auto-translation, it seemed like Casey was trying to call Victor, not Nikki.  Casey finally reaches him at the end of the episode. Casey tells Victor to meet her tomorrow at her office and don't tell Nikki. (Casey wants to tell Victor about Nikki's test results, and she doesn't want Nikki to learn the test results yet).

What is the theme of the week? Trying to figure out what these three episodes have in common. Lavish dates?

I wish YR would show more early and mid 80s episodes. It's gotten stuck on 1991.

I could be totally wrong about this, but maybe someone at Sony/CBS doesn't want to pay royalties to Terry Lester's estate.

It's nice to see David Tom as Billy. It's too bad Joshua Morrow never asked for acting tips from DT.

The chemistry between Victor and ED's Ashley amazing in the 1986 episode.  But I can't figure out if Victor seems so passionate because of the writing/words of his dialog, or if it's the acting ability of the German voice actor whose voice is dubbed in.  (I suppose they could have asked EB to speak his native German in the dubbing, but I don't think that's his voice?)
