Y&R to air classic episodes

She was just so coiled and dripping with venom and bitterness. I found her such a strong presence. And she was very elegant in her own way. Susan Walters was never fully credible as this lonely, aggrieved woman. She was too by-the-book beautiful and dainty, even though she gave it her all.

AD put her stamp on a role that she had been playing for decades and no one else could play Diane Jenkins. It was insulting that they would even recast.

Fun fact: I've just found out that AD was born in Frankfurt, Germany as Alexandra Antonia Mayo.

Fascinating read, thanks! Maybe you can help me, I've always wondered if anyone knows where to find the version of Nadia's theme here at 12:02.  This one has so much yearning and longing in it and I really want a clear instrumental without talking.

AD’s Diane would have been a formidable sparring partner with Stafford for years if they had not recast and then sidelined (and ultimately killed off).

It seemed to me for a long time when I watched as a kid that Victor really did still love Nikki and was torn and always pulled towards her.  The recent classic with Nikki being drunk and stripping a great example.  He looked in pain for and about her.

But when he married her on her deathbed...he seemed torn again to me. At first he didn’t want to hurt Diane.  But I remember thinking he wasn’t really that into this marriage.  Watching the episode with the attic fight brought that all back.

I think post Hope, Victor was different with his feelings for Nikki.  All these episodes show it.

I had to lol when MTS spent her whole intro for this episode talking about herself and nothing about the actual main event in this show.

As this drags on , showing random episodes is probably not the way to retain/attract viewers.

surely they could edit together themed scenes over a week with some talkovers by actors

eg Nick Sharon - their story from the beginning

Victor/Nikki, Paul/Christine etc

Maybe get Janice Lynde and Jaime Lyn Bauer to present Lorie/Leslie story

I think viewers would be more invested. Heavily promote as a daytime event, which it would be as some of this stuff has never been scene since first showing.

If only the execs at these networks cared as much about soaps as we do. I don't think they really care much for promoting daytime soaps either, unfortunately. They're hoping to keep viewers entertained with repeats with minimal effort. Repeats of any genre do not produce better numbers than new episodes (well only in rare occasion). Their hope is that viewers will return after a long break like they do primetime shows, unfortunately soap operas are a unique format that rely on viewer connection to characters and a daily habit of tuning in. Since what is happening is new to soaps, I'm sure no one is sure what to expect when these shows return later this year or whenever it happens. All I know is that it will require some major effort on the writers to create something big and appealing to lure viewers back in and the networks to promote the return of these shows. I guess only time will tell.

No, I've never heard that version.  It may have been specially made for a certain episode(s), or an episode(s) with extended end credits if they had extra time to kill.  Hard to say.  That version is not in the released "Bless the Beasts and Children" movie soundtrack, but maybe still in the movie?  I wouldn't know.

You’re complaining about these episodes? Huh? I think they’re incredible.

BTW, I just watched a couple episodes from 1973 — and trust me, no one wants to see Y&R from the beginning. It was not the show it came to be.

    • Melissa Ordway announced she was moved to recurring back in November but is still credited with the contract cast members.
    • I think of Evan as a smarmy bast*rd. Maybe you'll like that description. You certainly have him pegged correctly since he is just a soldier following "Admiral" Iris's marching orders.
    • So far the only interest I've seen from Evan to Amanda has been listening to Iris's orders to go and seduce her.  So far he hasn't been successful... but who knows. Amanda is unbearable at times. Entitled, spoiled... idiotic. Iris... so blatantly manipulating her and Amanda takes the bait. But I guess... when she gets in trouble... she'll have a chance to learn. That's what makes these shows so interesting.    Oh, no, don't worry. You haven't ruined a thing. Evan has not been on my radar that much... he was not one of the characters I was caring particularly... so nothing much has been changed for me. I don't think he has the stuff to ruin Rachel's life. He's just a pretty guy that can follow orders. Iris on the other hand... is dangerous.

P.S Maybe Evan will surprise me. Who knows.
    • The show has gone back to 10/10 entertainment! I'm glad that I was right in feeling that what were experiencing were growing pains. I'm sure they are not over yet, but I'll know that we always comeback to quality drama. I think it's going to be a hell of ride (in a good way) from this moment on. BTG has that magic that not a lot of shows have. I'll update more... when I'm done catching up.
    • So very glad to hear this. Yesterday I suddenly thought; OMG, what about spoilers, have I just  ruined things for Maxim in getting carried away with interest in Evan, who was so well-written & well-acted. BTW, your fan review of this episode was a sight for eyes that had not seen one of these for a little bit too long, LOL!!!  Mitch is also fascinating to me but in his case it's because he was all in with Janice & her nefarious plan & then he did this turnabout we've mentioned & he basically got off scot-free.
    • It does seem cheap and lazy for this show to have just one family. Passions was heavily criticized but it was nicely structured with a total of four families.
    • I think it was definitely a surprising reveal in the storyline. I had a hard time appreciating Evan because I couldn't get behind his interest in Amanda. But that's because I never thought Sandra Ferguson made her a compelling character (although to give her credit she occasionally had decent emotional scenes with Mac or Rachel).
    • I'll even go further... I'll make her re-think BeLief and create a new patent. Brooke needs stuff to do. Anything other than beg or be in her panties. We need her to be creative. But sadly Bradley has a very low opinion of these characters. To him Brooke is nothing more than sex and scandal... or a pathetic doormat. Ridge is nothing more than a chauvinist pig that needs to pit women against each other to feel like A MAN and Steffy is nothing more than her father's guard-dog. I don't even want to open my mouth about Hope. She is such a fiasco in my opinion... I will not suffer if they kill her off. Bradley pooped on her character and now it's too late to fix it. Annika is great and I would hate to see her go, but slutty Hope was not her thing. The vibe was missing.
    • I've seen Jason interact with Mitch and annoy him. That's as far as I recall. I didn't even have a slight idea that Evan had a vendetta against Rachel... That came as a surprise to me. I thought Evan was Iris's dog and that's it. Now he's definitely more interesting.
    • Thanks for these. I can't recall -- did Evan's vendetta have any position on Mitch, or was it all about Rachel? @Maxim have you seen any Frames intreracting with Mitch in any way?
