Sonny Corinthos and whether or not he should be written out of the show gets talked about a lot on here. Some people would have him out in two seconds flat. Others, like me, would build to a huge iconic exit worthy of how important the character has been to the show, rightly or wrongly, for decades, while others think outside of their own personal wants in what they feel is a more realistic approach and would keep him around in a more limited capacity. With all that said, my question is this: If Sonny had exited permanently in the past, at what point narratively do you think would have been most appropriate? Would it have been satisfying if his exit was just when he left in 1997 and never returned? If he left with Brenda the last time she returned? Or was there a particular story where you felt his exit would have been the perfect denouement to his character? Interested to see the responses :)

2011 or 2013 with Brenda!
But the other time I was really thinking it could be a Great Exit was After Morgan Corintho‘s Exit! He was heavily drinking and he could’ve offed himself because of his drinking and his bipolar.

the last time when rumors came up that Maurice might be leaving in early 2020‘s I thought the Story before his amnesia and the nina mess could really be it

Thanks. After I posted, I realized that this would be from GH's first week as an hour-long series.

That probably explains why Alan is talking about his (so-far unseen) family so much in those scenes with Monica. Marland was probably already planning to bring on the Quartermaines to expand the canvas, as the 60 minute format would require. Also, what a delight it is to see Alan and Monica so early in their relationship, where we can already witness some of the dynamics that would play out between them over the next 30 years. And although their scenes were nothing special in this episode, Genie Francis and Anna Stuart both look lovely.

I have never seen this, thanks for posting and thank you @DRW50for the head’s up. Really interesting to see so many people that I have no clue who they are. And early Alan and Monica is a treat.

Thanks for the Tag. With me being heavily involved in the November 1981 episodes and seeing that Alan and Monica scenes from 1978. wow! It’s Like it was always meant to be Alan and Monica in the end. Lol But that bedroom wallpaper Looks hideous

I was shocked at the heavy amount of Alan and Monica as the episode chugged along, especially that lengthy flashback (I loved the effect of seeing it through Monica's eyes). As @Franko mentioned this as the first week of hour long episodes, I guess this was to help fill time. I'm very glad we got that as a choice of flashback instead of Mark Dante's forbidden love, or whatever was going on there. This is by far the most Alan and Monica content we've had of them at such an early stage of their relationship. As others have said, it is also so true to who they'd remain, even if the bile isn't there yet.

I was also happy to see Anna Stuart, however briefly. Her accent doesn't seem as hoity-toity as her Donna Love accent, which makes sense.

Also kind of fun to hear Laura telling Scotty he's sexy...a shame what the show later did to that relationship.

Okay, if we can get this, then surely the long-elusive Alan and Monica wedding episode(s) will turn up someday.

Thanks for sharing!  I sort of forgot about Gina and Gary.  Gary later became a sleeze who wrote a weight loss book that suggested using S-E-X as the way to burn calories, embarrassing poor Gina to no end.  They sort of reminded me of a Jane and Howie re-boot.

Eesh. I never knew that. I think the only thing I know about him is that in real life he was married to the woman who played Susan Moore (wasn't he?). I know so little about most of what Gina or Mark did outside of Mark's initial story with Terri Webber.

Steve Carlson (Gary) was married to Gail Ramsey (Susan) and they had 1 child. Carlson had previously played Mark Henderson on Y&R.

Monica's eyes... WOW. So beautiful. Thank you @SoapDope78!

That was one of my favorite parts - it was very old fashioned in tone yet also felt revolutionary. A reminder of what Gloria Monty brought to the show.

Sorry to not tag you - couldn't remember if you watched a lot of older GH.

Oh, no... I definitely am not a frequent poster in this topic. And have only dipped my toes just a tiny little bit in classic GH. I watched a few weeks from 1981, but for some reason, I couldn't really get into it. Still... deep down I know the time will come some day when I'm older and grayer when I'll be exploring it more seriously. (Before that I have to exhaust 90s OLTL and AMC 😄) However, I came across this video you guys shared and was completely captivated. I even took a screenshot of the eyes. By the way, the quality is surprisingly better than even some 90s rips, which is quite impressive. Please God, keep these treasures COMING. We need them like we need water and oxygen!
