Just watched that 1985 clip. It was good to see Taylor Miller in the role of Sally again even though she didn't really fit the character. I believe others have said this in the past, but it would have been amazing if Taylor and Jacquie Courtney could have played mother/daughter at the same time. Could you imagine the scenes between them?

I always loved Sharon Gabet on AW but the show clearly didn't know what to do with her. Such a waste of extreme talent.

When Carl came back (either time) did the show ever really address Marley shooting him? I can't remember. Could have been fun if Anne Heche's Marley and he had a confrontation about it.

I don't think so.

I think the only mention of Arizona was when Kathleen told Cass that Carl was the one responsible for her "death" and being placed in Witness Protection.

Thank you! I find the Catlin and Sally scenes hard to watch because they are very emotionally unsatisfying -- Sally is so cold and Catlin is nowhere near sorry enough. And seeing Kevin complain that he loves Catlin, knowing that within the year Sally will be dead and even though she had reconciled with and married Catlin Liz would take Kevin out of town so that Catlin didn't have to give him a second thought when getting back together with Brittany less than a year after Sally's death, absolutely drives me crazy. Obviously they decided there was no story left there since the Matthews and Ewings were outside the Cory/Love/McKinnon framework dePriest wanted to establish in 1986, but it didn't have to be that way.

Was Raven on The Edge of Night the same kind of blatant schemer that Brittany had become by this time?

Carl pops up again one last time in Arizona and fights with Chris before appearing to possibly drown or something. Marley shooting him seems to be all in a day's work for Carl. Seeing Mac talk about how evil Carl is here is very uncomfortable when you think about his marrying Rachel eventually.

I was never a regular viewer of EON and have only watched clips of Raven. Yes, though, she was the schemer type and that type of role suited her better. Showed off her strengths as an actress.

I thought the same with Mac. Carl/Rachel never made sense to me and still doesn't. (Yes, I know. Vicky Wyndham threatened to quit or something if they weren't paired, but still).

Sharon Gabet is a wonderful actor, but Brittany was a badly conceived character. The year was 1985-86, and Brittany was introduced as a vixen/villainess who was also disabled. She was completely deaf. Now tell me -- in what world would soap opera fans want to see a deaf woman be the bad-girl/bitch?? Back then, the entire idea was off-putting to the fans. You "might" be able to make something like that work in 2025, but I can't imagine how any soap opera would finesse it. The entire idea still seems amazingly bad to me, all these years later. But none of this garbage was the fault of Sharon Gabot. I just wish she'd been cast on AW in a different role.

I wonder if Sharon Gabet would've been better served as Rachel's half-sister, Pamela Davis.

I think Sharon or someone said this was why Brittany got her hearing back.

That would have made much more sense. I'm not sure why they never brought Pammy back (it doesn't seem they ever did much with the character on Somerset anyway).

Sharon got a very raw deal with her soaps post-Raven. I saw a bit of her from early 1989 OLTL and they had made her up and styled her to look like someone's hip grandmother.

Absolutely! That would have been perfect casting! I've said that for years. Sharon Gabet would have been amazing as Rachel's sister, Pamela.

I would argue that when Brittany was introduced she was not written as a pure villain. It seemed to me that they made her deaf and included her and Catlin's dead baby and her good friend Zane in order to bolster her sympathetic side because they knew she would be hated for coming between a very popular couple. It wasn't until after Mary Page Keller left and Taylor Miller replaced her that Brittany started out and out maliciously scheming and lying in order to get what she wanted. And then of course in the dePriest era they made Peter the villain and Brittany his victim.

Assuming you are correct, even that was poorly conceived for the time. Sympathetic or not. Did any fans want to watch a disabled woman (deaf, or anything else) attempt to come between Sally and Catlin (who were AW's latest super-couple since Mac and Rachel)? How is the audience, in good conscience, supposed to dislike/hate/despise or root-against a deaf woman? Dear God in Heaven! It's just a nutty situation to expect the audience to go along with.

They should have cast her as Rachel’s half sister, Pammy Davis from Somerset. Made her a schemer who came to Bay City with Rachel’s dad, Gerald Davis.

Yes absolutely. Just saw this message after I posted my message. Gabet and VW resembled each other enough that they could have passed as half sisters.
