^^^ If I see people getting personal I stay away. In no way would I get personal on a soap board, I wouldn't do that to anybody and also wouldn't want it done to me. I'm respectful and I hope it always comes off that way.

It is.  In fact, as far as daytime soaps (both past and present) go, I'd venture to say Y&R is the nastiest.  From the beginning, it seems, egos have been that particular show's biggest BTS problem.

Indeed, Y&R has always had behind the scenes problems, they aren't new stories and there's lots of them.

This is just so pathetically sad for Y&R. Mal is doomed, nobody can handle being Headwriter and the EP in charge of production at the same time - Bill Bell didn't do it and neither should Mal Young. Kay Alden should still be there to guide, if not steer, the ship. If she left of her own accord, then fine...but between the story of Sally firing her or CBS firing them both it doesn't sound like it happened that way. The retirement language is just as it was for that hack at GH - an opportunity to save face, but in classic Y&R fashion it's been handled very poorly. You have to give it to ABC: their public relations game has always been good.

Interesting to see several actors jump aboard with their mouths firmly implanted on his ass. It will be interesting to see where their stories might go.

I'm just thankful Sally and Kay provided some actual closure to the Kay/Jill feud. Those scenes a few months ago where Jill read Kay's final letter to her and gave her Phillip's ring were excellent and so desperately needed to provide closure. I'm thankful we got that and I'm glad it was Kay Alden who got to do it. I wonder what Jess Walton makes of all this - she has the advantage (and disadvantage) of being recurring, so she can return or not.

The interesting thing will be whether Sally's husband, Tony Morina, stays on as a producer.

1) Stop highlighting and copy/pasting tweets. If you're going to do it, at least do it properly in a way that won't look trash

2) Yeah, I'm sure the actors would shittalk the new HW. Because that leads to more story, right?

I wonder which actors have NOT jumped on Mal's ship publicly at least...

I mean, most will of course congratulate THEIR CURRENT EP on his new gig. Why wouldn't they? As usual Jonny spins it.

Mal is already making a huge mistake bringing back Kevin. Unless he's going to give Kevin huge finale off the show for good.

Why is Gina sidelined when she won an emmy which was all Pratt material? Sally gave her zero to do. It seems the cast adores Mal.  Nobody has said one thing about missing Sally.

People like Sally she has history with the show

People love Kay

Stop with the Pratt stuff

Pratt is a hack who doesnt care about history

Watch his All My Children from 2008-2010 and you can tell

The cast -- ANY cast -- adores WHOEVER is in charge. They'd be stupid NOT to adore him, although the Twitter adoration is eye-rolling.

Why would actors go public about missing Sally? Do you realize how MORONIC that would be? No cast member is going to shoot himself in the foot.

Exactly. It's like any workplace. You kiss up to the new boss.

I want to know the real story behind this mess. Sounds like it might be soapier than anything currently on air.

Lord Have MERCY I'm tired of you always doing this. do you do this just to troll or do you really believe the drivel you post each and every single darn day and night? If I'm not hearing about ratings with you, you're kissing Pratt's tail, JP's tail, GT's tail, events are what people want.....the show has been crap since 5 minutes after CP and JFP were FIRED....Blah Blah Damn Blah. Give it a rest....

DAMN!

So you met Tom? And Martha Byrne? How random LOL

Yes, I know writers are canned when ratings fall. Y&R's ratings are NOT "in the basement" no matter how often you say the sky is falling. It's still the #1 show BY FAR.

You won't watch from now on? Then at least we won't have to read negative rants from someone who doesn't even watch the show. Your sister doesn't watch regularly either. Huh. That makes two of you.

If you read this board regularly, you should realize WE KNOW ratings have dropped. You don't have any special insight because you know that.

A lot of us complain about 1 or 100 things on Y&R. We're still watching, however, and just about all of us will be watching next week. You see, there's plenty that we still like.

Please enjoy The Chew and learning how to improve your lemon tarts.

Yes.  And it's not random.  Tom and Martha were friendly/friends for awhile.  I met them about 5 to 7 years ago.  So it's not that random.  Martha either wrote a few episodes or directed at B&B around then.  But I won't bore you with my negativity.  I really really promise.  Best of luck to you.  I think about it, and when I look back at old clips I think I'm going to be disappointed because maybe Daytime was always this bad.  But when I look at old clips on YouTube I see that it really was good years ago.  And it's not now.  So it's time to go, and that's why talent and actors, actresses, writers, producers, directors - they leave.  I see it's time to go, and as sad as it is for me to say - I said goodbye years ago to soaps when the greats - Guiding Light, World Turns, Another World, and on occasion I would watch All My Children.  It really was over then, but the hanging on, I've really just done out of missing the genre as I knew it.  I keep expecting some old clips I see to age really badly, but they don't.  I honestly think, if they're all cancelled - wait about 5 years and then re-introduce a soap, and the kiddies will think they're seeing something brand new and never seen before.  I truly apologize if I seem really negative and adversarial, but it's just how I feel.  Much luck and love.

Ho boy, I had delayed commenting on this because I have some mixed feelings on how Y&R has been since December. Let me sum up my thoughts and opinions:

  • I've quietly enjoyed Y&R since December when Pratt finally left however it was a rough, shaky startoff that was reminiscent of Josh Griffith's 2012-2013 tenure: Great potential, poor execution.  d
  • I feel like the show has felt much more like old school Y&R for the first time in the longest, but the ratings say otherwise. Of course I presume dropping the ball on Fenmore's, having nights out at the opera, Dylan in Miami, Chloe nonsense etc. contributed to the ratings decline.
  • The restoration of Sharon has been wonderful, but what the hell has happened with Phyllis???
  • New/returning/SOARSed characters like Scott, Juliet, Reed, Tessa, Zach, Charlie and Mattie all seem kind of interesting on the surface, yet are  painfully underdeveloped.
  • Cane and Lily finally get their most interesting story ever but the actors complain and their kids are very unnecessarily SOARSed for no reason.
  • It's nice to see Noah again but they still write terrible love interests for him. Likewise with Abby.
  • The Kevin and Chloe exit should have heralded the return of Adam to chase them away. What purpose does a single Kevin even give to this show anymore?
  • Speaking of Adam, one year ago I stated that Chelsea needed to leave the show with Adam, but I was blasted by posters and commentators on this board, other boards, and on Facebook for stating such an opinion. Now a year later I have the last laugh with Adam's exit still being the one of the worst exits in Y&R history.
  • The show should get an F- or a Z for still trying to push Billy and Victoria.
  • The less said about the Mariah/Hilary feud the better. The Jack/Gloria antics were a guilty pleasure but also annoying at the same time.
  • Bringing back Dina has been the best thing Y&R has done in years. As was giving final closure to the Jill/Katherine feud.
  • Mal's been a good producer for the show, but is he a good writer?

Bottom line is that while everyone's hearts were in the right place, they just couldn't pull it off. SSM has never been the strongest writer but I appreciate her for effort at at least. Trying to be old-school Y&R appears to not work in today's sensationalist society, even with Alden consulting it appears to have failed. However Sussman dropped the ball a lot of things and that's why it reminds me of Griffith's 2012-2013 tenure in which the show was repairing itself but fell shot a lot of times. Those ratings lost will not be back either as let's face it some demos are just dying off.

I wish Mal good luck to writing and I hope he has some success in what are probably going to be the final last few years of Y&R. Please at least keep Esser around and/or promote her to Co-HW.
