One thing I just noticed in the latest 1985 clips... it seems they played up the mystery as to the identity of which Abbott child Brent Davis fathered (the flashbacks seen always referred to “the child” rather than by name directly), and not actually revealing who the child was until later into the storyline. There is a snippet of a reveal where Brent tells Kay which child he fathered, but again it is unsure whether he referred to Ashley directly, or if it was insinuated.

I wonder if any of the more knowledgeable historians could fill any blanks here.

I'm not much of a historian lol, but they did tease us for while.

We had several "spirited discussions" about it at my house.  One of my siblings was sure it was TRACI ("She's already so insecure; she'll probably leave town if Mr. Abbott isn't her father.  She'll think that's why she's fat!")  Another sibling thought it was JACK ("He's always trying to win Mr. Abbott's approval.  What if Mr. Abbott isn't even his father?").  I always said it was Ashley, because she was the strong assertive one (like Lorie Brooks, who'd already lived through pretty much the same story).

Yes Lorie Brooks storyline has alot of similarities with ashley abbott, too bad these 2 women didn't get to really cross paths on the show, but i did love there interactions in 1984 at V&N wedding.

You could tell they have natural chemistry which would have been good to watch consistently i could see them both fighting or plotting on victor.

So Nikki spent all of 1980 in the Foster orbit..did she and Jill ever cross paths as sister in laws?

I asked my mom..and all she could recall was Liz trying to teach Nikki how to clean as Nikki played dumb..and Chris playing peace keeper with Greg and Nikki...but nothing about Jill

Not very often.  Nikki and Greg were usually involved in storylines about Nikki modeling lingerie for Rose DeVille's prostitution ring.  And Jill was normally caught-up with Derek Thurston and Stuart Brooks.

Their paths rarely crossed.

Then they both spent most of the 1980s orbiting Kay Chancellor --- Nikki as Kay's best friend, and Jill as Kay's worst enemy.  But again, no crossover in the two stories.

I don't remember Nikki and Jill dealing with one another much until about 1999, when Nikki and Brad bought into Jabot, and Jill and Nikki had a little sparring match about which of them was the sluttiest.

Same thing i have always wondered to because the way they get into these arguments you would think they go way back to when nikki was dating greg but they more had a problem in the late 90's.

I would love to see the days of when nikki was in the foster orbit and what Stuart had to say about nikki lol

Wow did not have any knowledge of this last foster encounter, seems they did keep up with that set for abit and then i guess with jill moving into the Abbott house and her brother already gone also Liz appearing randomly there was no use in keeping the foster home on scene.

Does anyone know what happened to nikki and Casey old house set they had in 1979, i wonder how long they used that set until that was done.

For the longest time I always thought it was said that Jill hired that Nick Reed look-a-like  (One of Quinn Redeker's second or third roles after Nick Reed, but before Rex) to scare Nikki and Casey as payback for Nikki causing harm to Greg and getting Liz shot during the Rose DeVille stuff....Is that true or just an odd rumor they had going on? I don't remember if it says anything about that in the 1980-81 synopses??

When you think about it, it's kind of bizarre that during the time that Nikki was married to Greg and was an in-law to  the Foster family, Katherine wouldn't have at least known of Nikki considering she was still close to Liz for most of that time frame that Nikki was married to Greg from 79-81....Even though everyone had their separate stories, I sometimes find it hard to believe that nothing was mentioned in passing about Snapper and Greg to Katherine from Liz, and about their love lives. There were so many beats that Bill Bell probably didn't play when Katherine and Nikki became friends...like the fact that she was her friend Liz's former daughter -in-Law, and her arch nemesis, former Sister-In-Law. I forgot that Brock actually knew Nikki first because he was friends with Casey! was that mentioned when Katherine started to know Nikki??

Not to criticize Bill Bell but I feel like most writers would bank on all those character connections, but it seems he choose to ignore a lot of them until it was convenient.

Speaking of Jill and Nikki I don’t even recall the two interacting even when Jill had her fling with Victor or when the two had a quasi triangle involving Jed Sanders in 1994. Oddly after Victor’s shooting in 1996 we did have Nikki randomly threaten Christine over her growing friendship with Victor.

That's an interesting question. Here is a clip of Jerry Douglas running into Lauren Koslow at the Emmys a few years ago. Starts at the 0:58 mark. If you listen hard, you can hear Jerry say he and LK worked together on "The Old and Useless":

One of my favourite scenes. Jill takes her slap like a champ and then gives Nikki the foulest look when she slaps her right back!

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
