Amazing news! Congratulations to AMC fans and kudos to everyone involved. It'll be fun watching this from the ground up and how it'll come to fruition.

Ik they are probably making this for newer viewet, but will they atleast recap what has happened the last 10 years. Or will that be the big mystery

I doubt they'll pick up any story threads from the past incarnations. They'll pretty much have to make this viable for people who've never watched AMC in the past or have any pre-knowledge of the show to get into; there might be slight nods to past storylines, but that'll be it.

Did anyone see this? If ABC is tweeting this, it seems likely the series already has been green-lit.

ABC Signature is a production studio owned by ABC, not the actual network itself. I assume they're producing the pilot.

This is the most realistic expectation to have. There'll probably be easter eggs here and there or they'll use past events as "backstory" but I wouldn't expect much more.

🤣 I'd give anything to have AW back but I'm always here for a good soap.  AMC was never a fave but I will at least check it out.

here is what the Head Writer (or whatever his primetime counter part is) Leo Richardson had to say on Instagram about the show

"I can’t even begin to say how excited and honored I am to be bringing this iconic property to prime time, alongside Andrew Stearn, Kelly Ripa, @instasuelos @abtvhd @alierivgut Michael Halpern and Bob Nixon. Soaps were my lifeblood growing up. They were the only place I really saw people who felt real and familiar, and who had real and every day struggles. The strong and resilient women I grew up around and recognized... the first time I saw a gay kiss on TV... soaps had it all. Bob Nixon, Agnes Nixon’s son said that he felt like his Mom would be smiling down, knowing her show was in the right hands. I hope she right. Andrew Stearn is a living AMC encyclopedia and then of course we have some it’s most iconic characters producing and who might even make a cameo or two... Expect the unexpected, expect darkness, a wicked wit, fun and a very new take on an old classic... with the ultimate respect for All My Children and the icons in #PineValley..."

Leo and Andrew sound like total stans of the show which excites but slightly concerns me bc of the “heightened tone,” but w/Agnes’ son on board as well it sounds like it’ll be in great hands overall.  Hopefully they even consider giving some of the previous directors and producers a shot too but I’m actually excited about the primetime angle of it all as well.

Regardless if it’s a mockery or not, I’m going to be eating it right up. Can’t help it.  LOL

Leo Richardson’s credentials worry me, though.

Star was... not great.

I thought Star was better than the concurrent seasons of Empire tbh.

Which IMO isn’t saying *that* much. Empire became pretty much unwatchable.

Star was LGBT-friendly, which was great, but it was a dark, convoluted mess.

I'm giving it a chance and IMO a lot of you are jumping the gun based on nearly nothing. One description is just that...a description. Things can change as they go along will ferrell chill GIF

I feel better that Agnes son is involved....but given that talent doesn't always get inherited (i.e bradley bell )...I'm glad that the handwriter is someone with experience in soaps.

Thinking back, AMC always had a gothic vibe starting with the Cortlandt's and carrying over to the Marick's.  So a slightly darker tone would work..just so long as the whimsical humor is also employed to balance it out.

Best news I heard all year. I’m not tripping about that premise any real fan and/or talented writer can make that engaging. I’m excited and patiently waiting for the reveal of the cast. Amc was such a special brand of soap that had many different themes combined together, I can honestly see many more reboots coming in the years to come. I’m still waiting on a streaming service to do a Erica Kane rags to riches story, or modernize the young romances of Nina/Cliff, Angie/Jesse, etc. I personally would do a anthology that way I could change up the cast and theme each season.

For the record, the first three seasons of Empire was must watch tv. Star had a very soapy season two and three imo.
