Members Planet Soap
best episodes; Sheila Farmhouse, Paul's centerfold, Kay's facelift, Victor/Diane divorce 1998, Christine's bachelor party, and the 1981 episode for the Lori/Vanessa scenes! It was a good run, but its sad living in the past because presetnt daytime sucks! .....Make soaps and broadcast television great again Please register in order to view this content Edited August 7, 2020 by ironlion
Members janea4old
How many episodes of Brenda Dickson's Jill were shown? Were there any shown of Bond Gideon's Jill?
Members Chris B
I wanna say Brenda only appeared in two episodes and she was the only Jill we saw other than Jess. I was surprised how many episodes they found from the 80s that just so happened to omit Jill. My favorites were the 1981 episode, the second episode and in general the heavy focus on the Barber-Winters family throughout the episodes. I also loved seeing them highlight Christine and Phyllis’ feud via the honeymoon and also the scenes with Phyllis/Cricket in the 2003 episode where Danny returned and Victor visited his dad. That was a powerful episode in general, but these episodes highlighted what a valuable character Cricket is and how much the show needs her in a leading role. Nobody has chemistry with Michelle Stafford like Lauralee Bell. They should be treated like the super couple they are, always in each other’s orbits like a Kay/Jill or Dorian/Viki. Members Vee
I'm still making my way through the classics (and the online archive) but I'll second how much Christine adds to the picture. Putting aside the obvious nepotistic push at some points, they evolved that character over many years from teenybopper to adult with stories not all about her love life. You saw her grow from child to adult with a legitimate career and change of focus. And Lauralee Bell had a very distinct sort of quiet class and grace. I remember her in the '92 episode being the only one not riding Drucilla about that porn situation, defending her. She's okay by me. Members Antoyne
I’m still on the classics and I just finished Devon and Hillary’s wedding episode. I instantly got PTSD from remembering the absolute character assassination the show did on Neil in the aftermath of the wedding. Especially after watching so many classics of the character this summer. I’m so sad to get back to the regular episodes with barely any trace of the Winters/Barbers now. They were so important on the show during the classics and somehow in 2020 they’re worse off, when you’d think the show would be more progressive. Members titan1978
While Cricket drove me absolutely crazy in her pre lawyer days, I have to say she added to the storytelling balance on the show. She could be the crossover character between various groupings that didn’t usually cross in Bill Bell’s day, she had romantic storylines, thrillers, issues, and was a talk to. When I think of classic Y&R storytelling (post Abbots joining the show era), in each episode there was always a character longing for something, a romance touched upon, someone in turmoil, a business storyline, and whatever other plot was boiling- usually a psychopath. Cricket was utilitarian for that story balance. Edited August 15, 2020 by titan1978
Members Faulkner
I love the Cricket appreciation thread this has become. LLB went from glaring nepotism hire to a decently strong actress IMO. Like I said, you don’t withstand Hurricane Michelle without having some chops. But before that, even if she was green and overexposed, she was used in meaningful ways throughout the canvas. Neil’s turn to the dark side was horrendous. I would have loved if he’d brought that energy to becoming a fierce businessman, no longer willing to be the company man in the shadow of Victor, et al. That would have made sense. But the alcoholism stories, Pratt making him a mustache-twirling psychovillain—they only served to further marginalize him.
Members DramatistDreamer
The first alcoholism story several years previous to the Pratt one, was actually a decent story and that's where they should've stopped. There's only so much an actor can do when the storyline is just not there.

Members DaytimeFan
It's to Michelle Stafford's great detriment that LLB isn't on the show more. All of the great moments for Phyllis, whether she's played by Stafford, Sandra Nelson, or Gina Tognoni, have involved Christine Williams, to one degree or another. Especially as Phyllis started getting into a repetitive cycle of storylines between Jack and Nick, having Christine as a storyline outlet would have been of great benefit to the character (and the show!). I loved the episode about Paul and Christine's wedding where they both bolted from the reception for the sake of their careers. When have we ever seen that on a soap? Never. It was very "modern young couple of the 90s" and Christine's career has always been front and centre as her character developed into an adult. LLB and Christine blossomed in the mid 90s. She was used throughout the canvas - not being tied to a major family or character really worked in the character's favour.
Members Vee
Did they ever try to put Nick with Christine? I'm just saying, it wouldn't be the worst fling on Earth though she's much smarter than him. It wouldn't be true love but could serve a plot function, and it would make Phyllis and Sharon nuts. Members OzFrog
^^ Maybe not so much Sharon (she doesn’t really have any rivalry of sorts with Christine, plus she is with Rey), but Phyllis definitely. It would make her eyes pop out and her head spin around a la The Exorcist. Then we’d start to see some REAL storyline potential from Phyllis again. Members Faulkner
Am I dreaming this, but didn’t they have a flirtation around the time Marcy Rylan started playing Abby as the “Naked Heiress”? I vaguely remember them sharing a scene around that time. But I could have it completely wrong. OK I didn’t dream it: they made out: https://michaelfairmantv.com/yrs-lauralee-bell-on-todays-shocking-kiss-between-christine-nick-newman/2010/08/19/ Edited August 16, 2020 by Faulkner
