Y&R to air classic episodes

@YRfan23 I would think a Nick/Sharon week would have all Sharon Case episodes, and not the first two Sharons. We already saw Nick/Sharon 1996 wedding, and Cassie's adoption, so I guess the next Nick/Sharon episodes to show could be Noah's birth and Sharon learning Cassie is her child. I also don't want to see anything from the last 15 years.

I really wish they’d show episodes from 1979...I’ve said a thousand times that I think it’s the best year of the show. Oh how I’d love to be able to see the Kay/Derek/Jill/Suzanne saga play out in a two-episode back-to-back showing. I honestly believe they should do a best of the 70’s week and let the fans pick what episodes they want to see by doing a poll. I’d LOVE to see the full episodes also of Kay driving Phillip over the cliff, Jill attempting to attack Kay with a letter opener, Jill falling down the Brooks’ staircase, Jill performing the tracheotomy on Stuart, Nikki killing her father, Suzanne gaslighting Kay, and Kay revealing herself to Derek and Jill in her bedroom after their wedding. There’s so much more but that’s some of the good stuff.

Do you think if ALL of us contact them individually on some sort of platform, they’ll cave and show them?

Watching the first couple episodes and having seen other past episodes, I find it interesting that Y&R launched with a solid cast. Most soaps I’ve seen from the beginning started with at least ONE dud, but everyone seems good and I know each character lasted at least a year or two. It’s also interesting that Katherine and Lorie were two of the most popular characters, yet we know both came later. I’d love to see the full first year to get a feel of how the show was before they arrived and then to see how the dynamic shifts when both arrived. It seems like Y&R started strong and didn’t really have to work out the kinks of other soaps. In contrast, it took Bill Bell years to get B&B going.

As a longtime fan of William J. Bell, I was eager to see the launch of his new show in 1973. I knew the writing would be good. But besides the writing, I was amazed at everything else too: the cast, the direction, the sets, the BACKGROUND MUSIC...everything. The show clicked right off the bat, and had none of the difficult growing pains that challenge almost all new soap operas.

Of the debut cast, Brenda Dickson seemed to be the greenest at first, but she melded well with her cast mates and didn't exhibit the campiness that she later became known for.

Janice Lynde was not the first actress hired to play Leslie Brooks. The show had originally cast a singer/actress named Mary Grover in the role. But after a few weeks, shortly before the show debuted on television, Bill Bell felt an emergency recast was necessary. Lynde was hired at the last minute and had two weeks' worth of episodes to film in just a few days. That must have been a nightmare, but she pulled it off, and Lynde went on to be mesmerizing in the role.

That early cast of Y&R was just...on fire.

Funny thing though, wasn’t it speculated and said that Bell wasn’t happy with how the first year or so of the show turned out and at one point wanted to cancel it himself?

I know even going back to the first years he and John Conboy were often like oil and water and Bell (having probably picked this up from Irna herself) had no problem calling Conboy every afternoon after the shows had aired ripping him a new one if he felt the material hadn’t translated on the screen in the way he had hoped.

    • Of course, sexy silver fox Dr. Jeffrey Russell has to be in cahoots with EJ so that Kayla's morals don't look selfish and skewed when she is completely in the wrong in letting Steve accidentally on purpose look at the important hospital files. Anyone find it funny that a handful of characters slurred their words today?  I can't quite explain it, but sometimes, like today, I feel like Deidre Hall plays scenes too light or passive, for lack of a better word. She's definitely more known as a charismatic personality than powerhouse actress compared to her soap diva counterparts from other soaps, but I just wish she could give me more. I did, however, like that her scenes with EJ got a 'to be continued...' about Belle. Maybe then I'll see more of what I want from her. Have Shawn and Johnny literally ever had a scene together before today? If they start having Sarah in a scene where she connects with literally any other Horton, then I'll be really impressed.  I'm glad they went through the trouble of explaining why EJ bid on Cat. It made enough sense, and I laughed when Chad spit out his asking about it as soon as humanly possible.

    • But Leslie is doing it all for her daughter.

Such a liar. Great episode but Martin needs to be recast. He hasn't improved. I didn't feel anything for him because of his acting and the writing. He has been so isolated from Ted and Nicole that he doesn't seem like their son, much less family. Leslie is pure evil. She wants Ted and the house and the riches that go with it. She doesn't care about Eva. I felt really bad for Eva.
    • I dont understand the motivation behind it. Eva is her link to Ted and the Duprees and without her, she has nothing. It would have served better for Eva to be all fed up with her and leave the house on her own and Leslie try to make amends bc she needs her for this comeup she's been talking about. Eva can repair her relationship with Ted and maybe build something with the Duprees and cut her out
    • So good today Dante is overreacting blaming gio Hopefully Danny will come clean
    • Not mad at Leslie Locking Eva out, I think it's important for the audience to see her on her own for a while. Curious how scrappy and savvy she becomes on her own. Yeah, I am with you there. It feels a bit hollow; maybe if she was talking to Martin and Kat I would feel better about it. There must be more to this story. Daphnee and Ambyr owned this episode. Tugging my heart in every scene. Nicole process hurt and anger much differently than Dani though.
    • I also really enjoyed Eva's scenes with Kat today. They have an interesting chemistry. I thought it really did feel a bit like sisters at conflict. Especially with the way that Eva was trying to convince Kat to forgive Ted and them both coming to the conclusion that the man they thought was their father was different wasn't who they really thought he was initially. And the way that Eva broke down when Kat said that she was dead to her was emotional stuff. I really do think that in spite of their conflict/bickering Eva really would have loved to have gained a sister, along with a brother, father, etc... Also, I thought it was interesting how Eva kept saying that she loves Ted and Nicole. That and Leslie mentioning that Kat/Eva are almost twins really does make me wonder if Kat may really be her twin and Nicole's as well. I would gladly welcome that outcome, even if it takes a while for it to come out. At this point Leslie doesn't deserve Eva as a daughter as far as I'm concerned. And I would forward to a storyline where we found out that she's Nicole's second baby girl, and all the complex and ultimately happy feelings that would bring Nicole. Eva/Kat could still have a rivalry, especially if Nicole ended up doing some more bonding with Eva. And then we could get the rest of the family's reaction to that as well.
