I thought I would be more excited seeing some other characters but Bill... he has not changed. His empty threats bore me. And Katie was so boring going on and on to Caroline about why she let Ridge go. There was more they could do with that scene. I have no idea where Bell is gonna go from here with Bill and Katie and I'm not sure I care..

I liked how Nicole shot Maya down immediately

''What I really want is to design''

''Oh!''

''Not clothes''

So I guess Bill is going to use Nicole as a pawn in his game against Maya.

Quinn, Deacon and Wyatt haven't been seen yet in the new year and I love it!

I thought for sure that Wyatt would be at that Spencer meeting. When he was talking about a Vice President, I thought it would be Wyatt but then Bill announced it as Katie.

I think Wyatt is still searching for Hope in Europe .

Today was the first time I truly thought Rick was going waaaay too overboard. I know! Today. LOL. But the way he was talking to everyone in the boardroom made me cringe. I can understand him earlier and how he always felt in the shadow of everyone and he's finally getting "what's his" but today was just wow.

I'm not even a big Ally or Ivy fan but neither of them should have been talked to like that just because Rick was mad at Caroline.

Kinda shocking to finally see the other cast again. Nicole made quite the entrance. She is different but not necessarily in a bad way. Her line delivery was spot and for once she is NOT into modeling. NOT into designing. We'll see how long that lasts. Ugh, and DollarBill is back to being his over-obnoxious self...

And I must say, I'm PUMPED to find out what is going to happen with Stephanie's gun!!!

Like, Rick is scary. I was afraid watching him, kudos to JY.

On another note, I see the show has decided we are supposed to root for Caroline, as every character has told us to do so.

This quad was fun when Rick/Maya/Caroline/Ridge were all painted in similar shades, but now we have every other character, even Katie, rooting for her. Hope did not fall down some stairs, to get off our screens for this

Go Caroline! I loved her standing up to her asswipe husband and his ugly tie. They are going a bit overboard with this villain edit for JR Rick. He is just so awful

It just hit me but what is Aly still doing at FC? When she came back, she was a prelaw student that joined the company for an internship. Years later, she never went back to school and is still there. What does she even do there and why doesnt she have any aspirations? Has she given up on law? She wants to be a designer now?

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.

It is very strange. They have insisted on having 30+ contract players for years now. If they had less cast, they could up everyone's episode guarantees, balance the cast out more. Like 20-25 would be perfect. Have everyone else recur.
If you look back at the history of the show, especially in the 1970s and in the 2010s, whenever the show was at it's most successful, it had smaller casts. Audience relate to the characters more, because they see more of them. In 2009 and 2013, the show had arguable it's most successful periods since the early 2000s (ratings wise that is). They had smaller casts and focused on 3 or 4 stories the whole year. That's what they should be doing at this point. Have a few umbrella stories, that last the whole year, and involve the whole cast. But again, before that, fix who we see on screen cause.....😬
