Y&R: July 2014 Discussion Thread

Honestly a great storyline for Nikki would be she finds herself a new man in a bar played by Mark Derwin. Kind of a rehash of Viki and Ben. I could see Melody and Derwin having major chemistry.

It would be great to see Mark Derwin back on Y&R........maybe not as Nikki's lover but he could always come back as Adrian Hunter the guy who killed George Rawlins then tried to kill Cassandra with the gun in the ice......his character didn't die and he just got sent to prison when that story ended. They could have made Austin his son and used him to get revenge on Paul or something....

Visionary? Are you serious? I truly don't understand your obsession with Passanante especially since you once said the following (as I came across recently while reading old boards here):

"Jean Passanante needs to be let go from ATWT. Her writing is so dull and boring."

U know what Jean has a 22 year career in this biz she spun crap into magic many times. Something is off here and maybe CBS isnt allowing her to be a visionary she is.

I think Jean Is very talented and Shelly. Shelly won the daytime Emmy for writing. I think y and r needs heavy hitting writing. As I said Jean is a better fit for a show like DAYS which is more super couple romance is her style.

And while opinions can change, it verifies for me that Jonny repeats the same stuff on purpose.

I don't even remember. I think at the time I was frustrated with jean at ATWT. I griped too much then I was very worried ATWT was on its way out. I think I was a little unfair to Jean because she was at ATWT for nine years that's a long run and she has her weaknesses and her strengths.

The music has improved but now they rely on variations of the Nadia's Theme way too much. It used to be a really special moment when the song was used, now it's used for virtually everything, even for scenes that are the most part, truly mundane.

Yes, this drives me batty. If Nadia's Theme is playing someone best be dying.

And it better be someone the audience has known for years and cares about dying...and I dont mean Dylan.

But Dylan's a legacy character now!!!

Dylan is bad enough but I bet it won't be too long til we start hearing Nadia's theme with Kelly and Stitch.

...I can see it now, the big reveal of Stitch's big bad dark secret, Kelly in tears in slow motion...and of course, Dylan will be there with his hands rubbing his temples, yelling 'Why, Stitch?!' with Nadia's theme being wasted while some extra in the background at Crimson Light's scarfs down a tuna melt.

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time Neil and them got Nadia's theme song played for them?

I don't remember Neil or anyone associated with Nadia's theme. They typically get bless the beast and the children.

Some of us had said that even during JG's writing regime that things had improved a lot from the MAB years. So that time did indeed come already.

With this show, it's been 2 steps forward 2-3 steps back in many areas. There have been a couple of great casting finds like MM, SC (in the beginning) and the brief time of CW but there have been some casting decisions that have set back certain storylines (CM is one such example, even though she seems like a great person and I enjoyed most of her soap work prior to this).

The music has improved but now they rely on variations of the Nadia's Theme way too much. It used to be a really special moment when the song was used, now it's used for virtually everything, even for scenes that are the most part, truly mundane.

There is more mixing amongst characters but what are they being used for? The way Jill is being misused--it should be a crime! I can only hope that once Eileen Davidson returns, so will a decent business storyline, even if they have to bring Jill back to Jabot to revive the Men's line or something. Jill needs to be flexing her business acumen like a boss! She should be mixing it up with Hillary (they've shown they have great chemistry as antagonists) in a forced business relationship. Hillary would realize she can learn a lot from Jill and respects her knowledge and skill in the industry (if begrudginly) and Jill recognizes Hillary's hunger to succeed because it would be like Jill looking into a mirror from 35+ years ago. The only problem would be that the two women don't really like each other (too much alike?).

Instead we get ridiculous storylines with Hillary's Fizzle-tastic May/December Romance with Love Addicted Neil and Jill's pseudo L'Affaire de Necklace with deadbeat Dad/Grandad Colin. Ugh!

I won't even get into the other tired themes of the WTD storyline (Is this like, Victoria's umpteenth go round?).

The show is much better than MAB's run but that started weeks after MAB was booted.

To each his own. I find the the show overall for the past 2 years has been the most boring and bland ever....including MAB's tenure.

And the show seems less like Y&R than ever before.

Isn't it time for Y&R viewers to admit the show has been better lately? For the past 3 weeks, every episode has been good or very good, and simply calling the show "a real hot mess" doesn't do it justice.

Even though I agree the show has been good, it's just an opinion we share. No one is wrong for believing otherwise.

As I suspected, Stick's big secret is lame. Unless he is a serial killer of children, the buildup was too drawn out.

I love Billy and Chelsea.
