ABC Daytime to Make Major Lineup Decisions in Coming Weeks

Well, whoever ends up getting cancelled first, I hope NONE of the actors get plugged into another ABC show. Not without a legitimate character creation and casting call. Especially when I know it won't be anyone over 41 (CM's age). And especially if we are talking about over crowding the already crowded OLTL. I would make an exception for newly appointed Dr. Frankie Hubbard and his lovely parents who make frequent visits over the bridge, but can you say Dr. Greg Evans?

Rumors were RB would wind up on GH w/ CM as nu-characters. Y&R were rumored to be courting, via board rumors and some "insiders" DM and JY when thier contracts expire. JY has alot of friends @ CBS, 1/2 the Y&R cast and suits know him. IDK if he does, I doubt it, not that I would be against it for either.

I just think he's not motivated. I noticed the only scenes where he brought it was w/ Young as his co-star. CM had more heat w/ SG, and that pains me to say.

You know B&B fans would love that, Nelson Bronco tried to get him to consider it, I think JY wants a challenge and he'd get that w/ Y&R. Y&R is the top soap running in the U.S., B&B has more viewers than any soap if you count International market, I think it's 30 million out there. So B&B is never getting cancelled, Y&R and B&B will be the last two standing.

Aren't AMC's demos about what ATWT was getting around cancellation time? If a show is costing ABC Daytime money I don't see why they'd stick with it, it would be defeating the purpose. I mean heck they moved AMC to CA instead of dealing with the show's problems, and that move made even more problems

On ATWT, yes, on AMC, nope

I really don't care about All my Children that much. I like Erica Kane and that's it. But this could be like CBS where they cancel Guiding Light and then decide to cancel ATWT just to get out of the soap business. I can't loose my Viki Banks. So my vote is to make AMC and OLTL half hour shows again. That way it will ad an extra hour to whatever hell they are going to put us thorugh with the new stuff and watch it fail. Then maybe they will think about it and bring the soaps back to two hours. Nothing canceled, nothing destroyed.

I don't think Susan Lucci will ever be on another daytime soap opera. Oh wow, what if they offered HER a talk show? :P I could *perhaps* see them trying to pull some sort of ratings event by having Erica Kane appear on one or both of the remaining ABC soaps if Erica has a book to promotoe or something gimmicky like that, but I could just as easily see SL turning down that sort of thing. This is me wishing and hoping, but if ABCD cancels AMC and makes a big ol' mess of it in the process, I'd like to believe that she'd ditch at least some of the loyalty act and walk away from them gracefully... no appearances, no favors, no PR acrobatics for their benefit. Anything that she may have "owed" them for her career in the past, she's paid it back in full, a couple times over.

I wish I had this kind of optimism, but I truly believe the first part of your post will happen before the second part.

The most likely scenario I see? This DC thing will end up being ultimately irrelevant to AMC/OLTL/GH and all three will get the axe come September 2012 (no SOAPnet, no ABC soaps).

If that were to happen? My dream (in other words, the very least likely to happen) ending would be for the last week of shows to tie everything up in classic cheesy embarrassing nostalgic soap style with the final day being one big three-hour love fest with allllll of the characters from all of the shows interacting somewhere. And, just to f!ck with everybody's heads, Jonathan Frid, Sharon Gabet, Lisa Peluso, and others will randomly bob around in the background. Hell, Susan Sarandon and Wally from Leave it to Beaver too, they were on ABC soaps back in the day.

Lucci won't go to another soap. She'll move on to something else. I thought her statement on Oprah was very telling. When Oprah asked her if she ever considered retiring, Lucci said "I've sometimes thought about retiring Erica but never me." I have no doubt she has a Plan B in mind and it doesn't include OLTL.

I think people are giving in to provincialism again. This isn't just about soaps or which soap is better/more popular, which has a crazier or more devoted "fanbase", it's about the bottom line and not just the bottom line for ABC Daytime but ABC/Disney as a whole. Also the idea that these actors will go from a dead soap to a dying soap is naive at best. Some will have to because they'll have no choice but neither Lucci nor Budig is in that category.

Make no mistake, whichever soap goes first, the other soap will go, at most, a year later. I doesn't matter which garbage can the raccoon knocks over first, once he finishes off one, he'll go after the other.
