There are four parts to this Bridget Dobson interview. I read all parts a while back. She talks about the GL/ATWT transition and other writer issues. Here's the link to one part.

She certainly plays fast and loose with a lot of her facts.

I do think there is an incredible TV show there though.  Her family life, starting to write at her parents show, GH, and continuing on to Santa Barbara.  Lots of rich material there to make a great show out of.

@BillBauer thanks for the 1967 episode. The only one up was in shaky quality so this is a much clearer upload.

My pleasure. I share what I can.

Sigh. That 1967 episode. The only people I know/recognize were Chris and Penny of course (both lovely to see) but I realized I was so invested by that last scene and holding my breath in anticipation of Amanda's answer to changing her plea. Just one episode and I was in.

I thought the actress playing Amanda was really good. She said a lot with her eyes.

I don't understand why these things have to keep being vomited up in so many threads, with zero moderation. No wonder so many people have left this board.

So as I came to visit my parents, I found my old computer and in it, I found some of my old soap folders... It is quite fun to see it, as there are some old videos from mid 00's for most soaps, some full episodes etc.

But what I completely forgot that I had, was downloads of recaps of ATWT from really early days. I honestly don't know anymore from which site I downloaded that, now it is saved up in a word document that I have.. so I unfortunately I cannot quote a source for this. If someone will recognize it, feel free to let me know. :)

EDIT: In one of the files I managed to find a link. The website does not exist anymore, but I found in the internet archive.

If you want it, I can post all that I have. Just so you know what I am talking about... here is 1956.:

Based on information contained in a review of As the World Turns in the April 4, 1956 issue of Variety, here is what happened:

Chris and Nancy discuss having Chris' father, Will "Grandpa" Hughes, live with them. Pa has been struggling to maintain the family farm in Gilman, OH. Plans are being made for Chris and Nancy's wedding anniversary. Penny is upset that Nancy won't let her go away with Ellen for spring vacation. Ellen, in turn, is upset by her parents' deteriorating marriage. Donald(Hal Studer), a senior at Oakdale High School, is dating a waitress named Janice Turner.

I recall seeing those on a website years ago, too. I believe it was called "As the World Turns: The First 20 Years" or something like that. It had some great pictures from the 60s and early 70s.

Wow, a lot of stuff happens each day something new. Interesting that people like the Dobson's felt they needed to "contemporize" the show and it moved slow as molasses on some days...(Brad pining away for Dee, Dee pining away for Brad...)

I never understood why Marland or another writer did not bring back the farm Hughes family as a contrast to the now affluent Hughes family as a counterpoint. I know they Snyders were but I HATED that damn family.  Interesting to bring in a Carly like character who is great niece of Nancy and Chris to live with them in "the city" and cause all kinds of trampy trouble as Nancy deals with another rebellious vixen she has a soft spot for.

That's what gets me about the "contemporary" ATWT in that other than a few new characters like James and Margo, the show feels so incredibly sluggish to me, and without any of the nuance shown in earlier years. That 1967 episode, while also pretty sluggish, has so many more layers than anything involving pornstache Brad.

I feel like Marland and the producers he worked with decided the only Hughes history worth paving over was Kim and Bob, and that was mostly just if it could impact their kids (like Sabrina coming in for Frannie's storyline). Other than continuing to have Penny make occasional appearances in the first few years of his run, along with Amy, that history was left to fade. Even Don mostly faded after 1986, aside from the Ryder story after Marland's passing.
