A new AMC opening premiered today and man I have to say it... it sucked. The updates are worst than Dixie's additional photo!

I saw a new Annie, Colby, Jeff, Sydney, and Sean. Julia was still in, as was Connie.

I didn't like it either. I don't like how they got rid of the second set of flying photographs; the opening is becoming more and more generic. Once Julia Barr is taken out it will probably be all like the OLTL opening.

Strange that they didn't wait until they could take Connie out, but I guess there will be more changes coming, probably removing Taylor Gildersleeve and Tanisha Lynn early next year.

They haven't added Zarf yet either. Was it me, or were the new shots very distorted with a bluish tint? The clips are very jumpy and seem like they were just copy and pasted into a new order, ignoring the overlaying transitions that had been used in updates past. They also don't mesh with music at all. The whole flipping pages effect they use on the head shots looks worse and worse with each update. And why have they still not updated Alicia Minshew's shot? She's still got that stupid line through her face since the first version.

The editing sure as hell sucked but the actual shots are very nice. I love Colby's shot.

I saw the opening tonight on SoapNet and I didn't think it was that awful. I feel really bad for AMC. It has been taking a beating lately on the boards.

Unfortunately most of it has been justified. Its a shame..... there used to be a day where you didn't see much bad stuff written about AMC. The show has improved alot in the last few weeks but it still is not what we all know it could be....

Colby, Jeff, and Sean are all ok - Colby is the best - they captured her perfectly.

Sydney and Annie's were way too quick. Annie should have been next to Ryan - so that didn't make sense.

I'm surprised that Erin was still in there since she's dead - and we have no Zarf - and Brooke is still in there. Bianca's pic is old. I agree they need major updating with some of these characters. Obviously a newer one will be coming maybe after the new year.

They took out David, Simone, Reggie, and Greg - anyone else? Dixie was cut to 2 shots...and Del's actually seemed longer - prob. bc he wasn't flying. Anyway I thought the whole thing looked horrible and looked like a shotty job.

But a new one is to come very shortly. Has to.

I was wondering about that, too. It was rumors of Jeffrey's (at the time) inexplicably addition to the new credits that got talk of Zarf and who, what, why that got the first buzzing around the Internet.

The shortest time I know of going into the credits is 6 months. Which again, I am surprised about Jeffrey's absence. John James was six months, too right? He just re-signed.

I wonder if his absence tells us more about the qualifications for being considered longterm (and Eden's said just to be longer-term right now) and thusly qualified for the opening

More about Jeff's actual contract or no status with the show. My point is, does it tell us anything about AMC's true plans for/faith in the story or character?

They will probably add Zarf after they remove Brooke & Erin.

Well, I just watched the AMC opening and didn't notice anything wrong with it, regarding picture quality. Hey, I'm a perfectionist and I can't even nit-pick it! WHAT are you guys complaining about? LOL. I will say one thing, though. Toward the middle and end, it seems the pictures start flying by too fast and it's inonsistent with the music. They need to do something about that. Otherwise, it's an attractive opening. One of my favorite.

First you give criticize folks for giving their own assessment of the opening followed by your assertion above.

Then you turn immediately around and say....

If you are suggesting that AMC "needs to do something" about those fast-flying pictures then you are also noticing something wrong with it, in your opinion.

Ryan, do you think it's a function of just not enough room left in the opening for Carlson? Because I imagine he was signed back in Aug or Sep when Eden was. Just seems like they would have had enough time to get his opening shots ready. *shrugs*

I really think we'll get a new one in early 2007. One that hopefully is a nicer edit.

I still can't understand why this has Erin and not Simone - when they died a week apart from each other - and they debuted this opening after Erin died. I'm thinking that maybe they had this created before they decided to kill Erin too. I'm convinced that there have been some backstage rumblings and they just decided to give us a temporary new opening since Greg died 6 months ago and we've seen characters for 6 months that still weren't on the opening.

I'm guessing that they are getting rid of Sydney. I don't expect her on the next one. She hasn't been used at ALL for months now. They realized that no one liked the teen group - but they'll stick with Colby and Sean bc they are getting better and are tied to PV. So I don't expect to see Sydney.

Also, they need to do a better job of placing people in a sequence that makes sense. Why does Ryan have to come after Erica? Just make it Zach, Kendall, Ryan, Annie.

They need to get the couples together - like Di/Aiden. They have Krystal still with Tad and Dixie - she needs to be next to Adam. They should just do this:

Erica, Myrtle, Zach, Kendall, Ryan, Annie, Jonathan, Amanda, Josh, Jeff, Dr. Joe, Jamie, Julia, Aiden, Di, Del, Opal, Palmer, Dixie, Tad, Krystal, Adam, JR, Babe, Colby, Sean, Jack, Lily, Dani, Zarf, Bianca. Since they have to close with Bianca - that is my suggestion. That puts couples together and families together perfectly.

I hate that some characters are just stuck in - like Dani is next after Sydney. Josh is between Joe and Jeff - which makes sense with Jeff, but a younger guy between 2 older guys - I don't know. Put him with Julia and Jamie.

And they need an update for Bianca, Kendall, and DIXIE. Her shots are still horrible IMO - but they did cut 1 of the 3, so that should make those people happy that were complaining back in the summer when she had more shots than Erica! lol

One think I noticed? The credits go superfast on ABC but on Soapnet they seem alot slower. Some of the shots you can barely get a glimpse of on ABC.
