AMC: Seriously!! WHEN is something going to be done to fix this soap!

I watched Friday and it was okay but I realized I still cannot stand most of the characters and hate all the stories, so nothing has changed in over a year which is pathetic. I hate hearing that Armus might not be coming. Sounds like I would love his ideas. It just shows Frons is at the core of all of ABC daytime's problems. He should be be overseeing the shows but not be the dictator of them. They are not his personal fantasy playgrounds for his own sick ideas. He should be focusing on marketing etc.. not storylines and pushing his own favourites. The man is completely destructive and no one at the top is calling him out on his behaviour. I think our only hope now is the affiliates. I have a cousin who is a station manager and I know they hear lots of crap from advertisers when things are not going good. I just hope the complaining gets loud enough for the folks at Disney to finally straighten things out before they have lost almost all their core audience and have no chance in hell of getting them back. If something is not done soon I can only begin to believe that they really don't care if the show gets cancelled or not.

QUOTE(juniorz1 @ Nov 4 2006, 12:52 AM)

I wish I could agree, but I don't. It's gotten to the point where it's beyond repair, especially with the impending exits of Vincent Irizarry and Julia Barr. There is just nobody left to invest in, and the few that we may be invested in, are either written like fools, completely different characters, or not written for at all. That's a trend that hasn't changed in almost 2 years now, and it doesn't look to be changing now.

There needs to be a complete overhaul and certain people need to be begged to return. I don't see that happening at all- if anything, they'll just hire new puppets for Frons, Julia Barr will still be gone, and the new team will work with what they have.

RIP AMC.

Sorry I guess we just disagree I believe any show can be salvaged, it just needs to be done right away. Personally I think Guiding Light is in much worse shape with the Marvel crap, but I believe it can be salvaged.

AMC Zendall Fan...you are way off base!!!

Julia Barr made the statement "a show that was once an icon" which pretty much says it all.....The morale at AMC is not good and ratings are sliding big time over the last year......and with the veterans leaving or let go... the ratings will slide further down. No one cares about the characters because the writing has been very bad lately and ABC JUST DOES NOT CARE OR THEY WOULD DO SOMETHING. ABC needs to wake up and smell the coffee because pretty soon they are going to alienate more fans.

I have been watching Days of Our Lives since all the hype about Hoagie coming....I find the show a complete BORE!!! I've never watched Days since the 80's and I just thought I would try to get into it again....needless to say it only lasted a few weeks.

As for GL...It is in much better shape than AMC....It has a consistent rating while AMC has been posting losses. As a matter of fact GL has been rising in most demos...and will continue to do so after this week.

As for Marvel.....I thought it was a good show and something new and fun and came at the right time....Halloween and Reva's big reveal of cancer meaning not to depressing.... AND A SHOW IS NOT IN WORST SHAPE BECAUSE OF 1 SHOW...Catch a clue! The truth will be hold next week when the ratings come out!

I think I may have mis-reprsented myself a little, so let me explain further. 'All My Children' can not and will not be salvaged without re-hiring Julia Barr (which won't happen). It can not and will not be salvaged with Brian Frons as President of ABC Daytime (He's not going anywhere, unfortunately). It's not that it's un-salvagable, but rather, nobody is going to bother to try to save it. I've given up all hope with the show, whereas with Guiding Light, I feel there is an effort being made to keep it going. Love or hate 'GL', they are one of the more daring soaps on the air, and at its best, GL can be fresh, innovative, and hip, even moreso than other soaps. All My Children, on the other hand, is a total wreck day in & day out. It's not even a trainwreck anymore, it's far more painful than that.

So while in theory & in an ideal soap world I agree AMC could be saved, the reality is in the soap world we live in today, it just ain't gonna happen. If it does, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong & be jumping for joy with the rest of you. But I truly believe the show is beyond repair- it's not like they need just a little tuning up here & story greasing there. The show needs a total overhaul and I'm afraid it's just not going to get it. Or I should say it won't get the overhaul it needs to truly be AMC again.

Excuse the bluntness, but so the f*ck what if GL is doing better then AMC? None of that matters. This is about AMC and what the AMC fans not sometimes watchers, or people who have past biases or dislike of it think. This is about that fact that diehard AMC fans who used to live and breath this show, can't stomach the thought of it anymore. It's about the fact that we're watching our show be slaughtered before our very eyes, and that we're powerless to help it. It's not about what other soaps are doing. It's not about how GL looks or if GL can is in worse shape...it's about AMC being about to take it's last breath. It doesn't matter who's the worst, it matters that the AMC fans still care enough to complain. And that I think, is a testiment to how much we still love this show. It's when we stop caring that I'd believe all hope was lost. A

I guess what I'm saying, is I don't care if Hoagie is a miracle worker for Days. I don't care if GL is worse then AMC. I don't care about this or that or the other on some other soap. I care that AMC is in trouble. Period.

I, for one, wasn't the one who brought that aspect up. I just addressed it.

I think everyone who's ever been a fan of AMC is genuinely concerned about it- I know I am. That's why it's so painful to watch for me right now. That's why I'm disgusted that they've dumped Jill Larson, Vincent Irizarry, Tonya Pinkins and especially Julia Barr. AMC just isn't AMC right now and that sucks.

ETA: While I love her, I think it's about time Susan Lucci speak up about things. I can't imagine she's pleased that Julia, Jill, & Vincent have been let go, nor can she be thrilled with the stories she's involved with but not driving. This is as much Susan's show as it is Agnes's IMO and it's about time she stood up for it.

AMC is a mess. It's running on fumes and none of the characters are acting on true motivations. I mean, for God's sake, Ryan turning on Tad as if Tad's some psycho makes no sense. Blannie not wanting to take a DNA test to PROVE HER DAUGHTER IS HERS makes no sense. Jonathan acting like he's got all the right in the world to cast judgment on ANYONE after the four murders in 18 months he's committed makes no sense.

It's all just contrivances to fill up 42 minutes of air time.

ITA. Susan and Vincent have always been close and LOVED working together. Aside from DC, (and that's not much more then Susan) she's worked with VI the longest at AMC, so him being let go has to be a blow to her. Now Julia Barr is on her way out. I forgot about Jill, wow. I'm going to be so very disappointed in Susan if she doesn't speak out after Vincent's last day, same goes for Julia's last day. She has pull, she has clout, I respect that hell out of her for being such a consumate professional, but it's time to throw around a little of that "wieght" she carries.

I think the next opportunity to fire MCT might be in Jan. I can't remember if it was LookingGlass who said that every 13 weeks she could be fired. And I think Oct. was a month that she could have been let go. So the next time she could be fired would be at the end of the next 13 week cycle. That could mean sometime in Jan./early Feb. So her writing could be seen up until early March or even April. If there is anything left of the show by that time.

I don't know how those contracts work though. She could be fired at anytime but it doesn't seem like AMC is too interested in letting her go at this point. Why didn't they let her go and promote someone from within to be an interim writer? Frons probably really does want to wait and see how well the show does during sweeps and then make a decision. Way to be a leader Frons. Go ahead and let it keep suffering.

I say make Jeff Beldner the HW.

If only you were Brian Frons......

With the exception of a couple of the script writers any of the staff writers at AMC would be a fine headwriter. All Frons has to do is find one who want to be headwriter , butt the f*ck out, and voila problem solved.

Frons is the #1 one reason why AMC is in the state it is in. If he were a compatent daytime president HE NEVER would have let McT let AMC become what it is. Same goes for JHC, I've always defended her but how can she be safe from criticism... she is the EP after all. I am just very discouraged wioth what has happend since Frons took over. I believe the show has alot left to offer if the right people were to come in and manage it but I fear that will never happen.

Why? More gossip from the golf course you care to share?

My hope is that Burton Armus is still coming, but many here are saying he would

have been installed by now if that were true.

So I'm going by the posters on this board since I don't have any further information

than what I heard at the pub after golf.

If Armus is not coming, then I say put Jeff Beldner as HW.

I think ABC sucks major pig's ass and they need to do something with their writing teams

quick. Their shows are losing fans in masses, but it's #1 CBS that's making all the big

changes and trying to please the fans.

I don't know whats more funny AMC Is Going faster down then a strippers panties lol or, the fact that people think Susan is actually gonnna really say anything. It would be nice if Susan did say something shoot even David(Adam) speaking up for Brooke.

  • Member

IA that Susan Lucci should speak up. It's not like ABC could touch her, or there would be HUGE backlash. I'm sure viewership would be cut down in half.
