  1. With all the revolving door romances, why has Phyllis/Jack never been revisited? Jack had another fling with Nikki a couple of years back but Phyllis seems to be a no go, despite the fact that it is as viable as any other pairing. Meanwhile Jack has nothing and Phyllis/Nick are getting another go round. Is it a case of either MS or PB against the pairing for some reason?
  2. Jane had a hit single a duet with Bing Crosby - 'In the Cool Cool Cool of the Evening' in 1952.
  3. Arturro was the celebrant just like Devon was for Chance and Abby. I guess they don't want to have aday player on set at this time? Or it's just a budget thing?
  4. Not sure why they felt to add this twist to ep 1. It got a bit repetitive and all those lip syncs diminished the impact, especially as no-one really slayed it. I wasn't super impressed with any of the outfits. My favorite would have to be Symone - just came across as naturally amusing as opposed to Tina Burner who was channelling big girl drag 101 and the quirky one who seemed to be bizarre for the sake of it. Let the music play!
  5. Yes, if the line was there to point out Lucinda's ignorance and Jessica put her on blast, that's one thing, but it appears the script left Lucinda unchallenged so Liz nixed it.
  6. From a 1995 SOD interview with La Hubbard 'Another time they wrote something that offended me and I checked it with Tamara (Tunie ex Jessica). Lucinda was supposed to say, 'I know what it is to be a black woman. I know because I had a hard childhood.' I said, 'What? This is insulting'. I don't know how I changed it, but I changed it, she recalls. On the other hand, concedes Hubbard, People who are writing soaps, they write so fast ,they don't always have time for the finer points.
  7. Susan talks about her 1990 return, We Love Soaps: Then Al Rabin contacted Susan in late 1989 to hire her back. Susan Seaforth Hayes: And they never explained what had happened with Doug and Julie. [They said] “Don’t ask. Don’t ask.” We Love Soaps: So when you did ask you were told... Susan Seaforth Hayes: “We’re not going to mention it, we’re not going to address it.” And they never did. One had to carry around the idea that something awful had happened. We Love Soaps: There was a huge amount of fanfare and publicity about your return in 1990. Susan Seaforth Hayes: And I had a lot to do then. I was fairly busy. Then by the time we came back together in another era in the '90s, the Vivian character was on the map, and you could not have two strong, interesting, funny women at the same time. I lost ground there. I began to wonder if it was how I looked. I never had much to chew on for many years. We Love Soaps: Your first year back in 1990 you were central in one of fan's most favorite stories of all time. Susan Seaforth Hayes: The Cruise Of Deception. That was a lot of fun. We Love Soaps: That introduced a romance for Julie and Victor, and then nothing. What happened? Susan Seaforth Hayes: I couldn’t stand working with anybody besides Bill. I didn’t throw myself into that for sure. That was short sided. I don’t know. Then I certainly had the feeling I was being let go for looking bad. For aging. Bill Hayes: I don’t believe that. Susan Seaforth Hayes: That was mentioned. By a lady producer. “You have to do something about your hair.” When they start talking about doing something about your “hair,” then you know what they are REALLY saying. They want you to do something about everything. I was pink-slipped again.
  8. Julies's return to Days in 1990. It was great to have Susan Seaforth Hayes back but to have Julie now a single lady with no respect paid to Doug/Julie tarnished that a bit.
  9. Three I can think of - Jodie the pregnant teen that Brock helped in 77, Nikki's VD trauma in 78 and Sharon/Julie teen runaways in 79 -all Summer 'social issue/teen stories'
  10. Thanks for posting. Very interesting as I enjoy BTS stuff. Wouldn't it be great if there was similar stuff about what went wrong at short lived and cancelled soaps from those involved?
  11. Jeanette Nolan Young Dr Malone Louise Milton John Raby House in the Country Bruce Marshall Henrietta Tedro Myrt and Marge Lil Parker Ralph Camargo Road of Life Chuck Burke
  12. Maybe this topic should be re-titled Disappointing returns... How about Robert Gentry as Ed Bauer on GL. The actor who really claimed Ed as an adult character in the 60's and went on to become a veteran soap hopper who was popular on AMC AND they even had flashback 60's footage to let newer viewers know of his heritage in this legacy role. What was presented was a trickle of appearances where Ed was pretty much supporting. He could have been used to spearhead a Bauer renaissance.
  13. Yes, even though it sometimes came off as clunky, I think Bill Bell knew from experience that too much crossover could complicate things and drag the story down. The half hour format couldn't support it. Better to focus on the main characters in the story and play down/ignore the other connections, unless it was needed. I'm sure the reverse was in play where Leslie would tell Lance she didn't want to worry her dad at this time when he was so occupied with Peg, thus keeping Stu out of things until there was time and room to accommodate it.
  14. Was he fired? I thought his contract was up and neither side were interested in continuing - Wayne because the writing made Roman the 2nd choice in the triangle and Days because they had written John as Marlena's best bet along with the fact that Wayne was probably going to cost them mucho dollars if they renewed his contract.
  15. Looking at the Y&R summary it seems Lorie and Leslie were all into Brad and Lance while Chris and Peggy were busy with Peg's rape. Did Bill Bell do any crossover here? Surely having your youngest sister raped and facing a court ordeal would take some precedence in your life? Or did Bill write a scene along the lines of Stuart telling L&L : What would be best for Peg right now is to see her sisters living their lives and not being dragged into this ordeal. She knows how much she is loved by you and that is worth more to her than seeing you sitting in a courtroom watching her innocence being torn apart again...
  16. Based on my recall of the show at the time,I imagine there would have been a small area of fake grass, probably a wall covered in greenery, a couple of deck chairs and the edge of a 'pool'.
  17. Don McLaughlin Dangerous Roads Pierre Bradley Thunder Over Paradise Gilbert McCauley Kate Hopkins Angel of Mercy Duke Duncan This Life Is Mine Ed Lorrimer Wheatena Playhouse 'Lydia' Young Widder Brown 1946 Lora Lawton 1947
  18. During the Joe Martin anniversary ep on AMC several characters were gathered at the hospital when the elevator door opened and Phoebe (Ruth Warrick) was wheeled out. Erica went up to Phoebe to welcome here and Ruth smiled, obviously unable to speak or not well enough to deliver dialogue. Wonderful to see her again but probably a shock to long term viewers who remembered feisty Phoebe in her heyday. Not so much awkward as sad/poignant.
  19. Fans of low budget 80's slasher films and NY based soaps have to check out 'He Knows Your'e Alone' Cast includes Don Scardino Johhny GL/Chris AW etc Elizabeth Kemp Betsy LOL Lewis Arlt David SFT/ Kevin AW Patsy Pease Cissy SFT/Kimberley DOOL James Rebhorn Bradley GL etc Russell Todd Jamie AW and Tom Hanks
  20. Thom Bierdz was super rusty when he was resurrected as Phillip on Y&R. He got better but was dumped never to return. When George Reinholt appeared on AW for the 25th in a couple of dream/fantasy sequences he seemed a bit awkward. Am sure some viewers who didn't experience Steve Frame the first go round were wondering what the fuss had been about.
  21. Still puzzled as to why Sharon and Rey got married apart from the fact that a wedding may cause a slight bump in the ratings. It's not like we haven't had a recent wedding. Story wise it's dead end and in Sharon's case this is her 6th (?) marriage. Really shouldn't be surprised as virtually every story from Griffith is a non starter.
  22. Variety reported in June 1949 that ABC was prepping a new sitcom 'The First Hundred Years' by Jean Holloway. Dealing with the adventures of a young married couple mixing tragedy with the humorous elements for a change of pace. Yes, cos in 1949 nothing helps a sitcom along like some tragic events. Oh look, nosey Mrs Sickybeak from next door just got hit by a truck. Maybe Jean and the ad agency realized the tragic elements might be more suitable (and sellable) for a soap.
  23. Y&R Sharon's cancer battle. There was hardly a moment that rang true because Shazz went tnrough the whole thing looking like she'd just been to the local beauty parlor. I get that perhaps they wanted to show that you don't neccessarily have to look like you'd just gone ten rounds in the boxing ring but this was too much. Sharon Case said she wasn't going to do any outside research but just go by the scripts (lazy gal) but the scripts were not based on any reality unfortunately. And story wise the cancer didn't really change any dynamics over it's course.
  24. Y&R Theo enters into a battle with the Abbotts over Dina but then accepts a payout and leaves town. Kevin and Chloe are in town and residing at the Chancellor house.
  25. I know they tape out of sequence so could it be that Chandler was available only on a day that Deidre was not taping but Suzanne was? Also, perhaps Covid protocols play a part?
