When Millee Taggart was pregnant, Search for Tomorrow wrote a surprise pregnancy for Janet. Danny Walton was the result. ATWT I think Patricia Bruder's real life pregnancies resulted in David and Ellen Stewart having Carol Ann (Annie)in 1967 and Dawn (Dee) in 1969.

Kevin has barely been on and Chloe is a talk to. Not really sure what was the point of bringing them back although this sort of role is best.

An actress becoming pregnant is one real life event that writers have to deal with. Which pregnancies were written into the story and which were covered up ? Do you recall characters being written off or replaced so actresses could have maternity leave? The first real life pregnancy I think soaps had to deal with was Mary Stuart on Search for Tomorrow. When the widowed Jo was marrying Arthur, she was heavily pregnant and photographed from the waist up. When Mary got pregnant again, they decided to let Arthur and Jo have a son . Mary was upset when the Hursleys decided to kill the child as she closely identified her onscreen son with her real life child.

I'd have to nominate Phyllis on Y&R. She came on as a spoiler to Cricket and Danny and tried to pass off another man's child as Danny's. She was responsible for all sorts of mayhem and it was expected that she'd be punished and be written off like Mari Jo and Lisa Mansfield. But she came back and got her hooks into an Abbott and a Newman and is still hanging around today. Stafford has left twice and they still keep welcoming her back.

have to agree in general. Watching Y&R and seeing storylines created just to serve vet characters even if logic and past experiences get thrown out the window. Most characters can stand 10-15 years as frontburner at which point they have to take a back seat or be dropped altogether. It's great to see Jack Abbott onscreen after all these years but 3 days a week is not necessary. If the shows were structured properly, he would be the patriach at work and home to family and employees, not mooning after his twice ex wife who has betrayed him multiple times. By choice/necessity Bill Bell revamped Y&R after several years and gave the show new life. It's a pity he didn't follow through in the 90's and introduce a viable set of new characters and drop some others along the way.

Josh Griffith usually avoids (over-the-top melo)drama in his writing.

I agree Felicia and Zane deserved more story than just killing him off a few months after their wedding. They ended up losing so many people during 86 that hanging onto Zane could have helped. Those WLS interviews are so superior to Locher as they really dig out some interesting tidbits. Re Judith Barcroft coming back to AW as a day player, I'm puzzled as to why she even did it. Surely you would know going in what the role was and that no-one would know you there,...

On Y&R she was Cynthia Eilbacher in her first stint as April ,then Cynthia Jordan when she returned years later.

Y&R Having Victor Newman become involved with his ex daughter in law Sharon. It did neither character any favors and was universally hated. Never mentioned these days.

Families have always been the bedrock of soaps so just about everyone is a member of a family or has onscreen siblings. Who are some actors who are really believable looks wise as members of the same familly? And who did you never buy as being related? Of course, in real life, some family members look totally different so there's that... The first that came to mind for me were Carl and Paul Williams on Y&R. I wonder if that was a consideration when they cast the role of Carl in 1980?

Reading the Pam Lincoln's comments in her interview might leave you believing the gossip re the affair. Her approach to parenting also seems somewhat casual. Kinda like 'I carried the kids for 9 months FFS what more do you want from me?'

I'm talking about the cabin mentioned here from 2016 Phyllis agreed to go to the Abbott cabin with Jack to celebrate his birthday, but she intentionally drank too much Champagne to avoid having sex with him. Phyllis remained at the cabin alone, and Billy joined her to have a passionate encounter.

Thanks Broderick. Interesting analysis. Random Y&R question. Can anyone tell me when the Abbott cabin came into play? When it was introduced was it purchased as a getaway or just assumed to belong to the family all along? How far away was it from GC and was a locale ever specified eg a few miles from Hicksville... From what I've seen it looked pretty basic. Wouldn't a wealthy family that regularly uses a private jet have something a little more spacious and luxurious? Thanks in advance!
