  1. Texas aired in Australia, initially in primetime as a Summer replacement but was quickly moved to daytime. Guiding Light also aired in Australia at one point.
  2. On Y&R Katherine drove Phillip off the road, so the intent there would have been to kill herself and Phillip. A few years later she threw herself overboard from a cruise ship. Way back in the 60's on TGL, Julie Bauer (Hope's mother) committed suicide whilst institutionalized.

  5. Another contract ploy used by was to have primetime appearances included in their contract. Lucci and Deidre Hall had this. Larry Bryggman mentioned that in a meeting with ABC he was told that they could offer primetime guest shots. When he asked for examples he was told Love Boat and Fantasy Island. Mr B was not impressed. However I believe George Reinholt and Gerald Gordon were 2 actors who requested or were offered such a deal when they were lured to ABC from NBC. Gordon appeared in a TV Movie 'It Happened at Lakeside Manor' about an ant invasion. No such luck for George. The contract was of the play or pay variety and so if no such project eventuated, the performer was paid an agreed mount. You have to wonder if anyone at ABC ever intended to fond a primetime role for Reinholt.
  6. I recall reading that Rosemary Prinz was had a guaranteed 3 episode a week contract at $1000 per ep for How To survive a Marriage, which was a record at the time. The next time big salary contracts came up was when Kin Shriner signed on to Texas and Jackie Zeman returned to GH. $300,000 was the salary mentioned for Kin.

  10. Dec 84 Metromedia has renewed Rituals for remaining 23 weeks of 52 week cycle through September 1985. Metromedia carries syndicated serial drama from Telepictures on all seven of its stations in top eight markets. Deal Telepictures made with stations said that stations would be released from their commitment to carry two 30- second spots included in show if Metromedia did not pick up renewal after 29 weeks. However, some major market stations have dropped Rituals, including WRGB -TV Albany and wire -TV Buffalo, both New York; WXIA -TV Atlanta, Ga.; KMBC -TV Kansas City,Mo. Stations must honor commitment to carry barter spots, how ever. Other stations have moved Rituals to noncritical viewing periods, such as WPIT -Tv Pittsburgh, which rescheduled it from 7:30 p.m. to 10 a.m., and WLWT -Tv Cincinnati, which moved it from 7:30 p.m. to weekend slots at I a.m. and 2 a.m. In order to boos ratings, Telepictures has inaugurated contest with grand prize of $100,000 to viewers who solve murder mystery built into show's storyline. Clues will be dropped during February sweeps and viewers must identify victim, murderer and motive behind crime it order to become eligible to win prizes.
  11. All I recall is that it was slated for 3pm and it was announced that some of the cast members would be a part of the daytime version. There was new head of daytime (Frons?) who scuttled those plans and went with Santa Barbara,
  12. Mary K Wells True Story 6/14/1958 Polly Burke Jean Stapleton True Story 'Miss Beauty Cream' 9/24/1960
  13. As regards holding contracts, Allen Fawcett (Kelly EON) stated in a SOD interview he was put on a holding contract by Y&R while they negotiated with an actor. Judging by the time frame, it seems Doug Davidson would have been said actor. Maybe when the show expanded and contracts were renegotiated. Andrea Moar (Carrie AMC) also said she was under contract for months with ANC until a suitable role came up. I'm sure its been years since this happened in daytime.
  14. Yes, well worth a read. I think that contracts these days are very different than those in the 80/90's. Back then if you were on say, a 2 a week guarantee. that was per 13 week cycle, Therefore you had to appear 13 times in that cycle. So it could be 1 day in 1 week and 4 days the next so long as it averaged 13 in that time period. But nowadays? Another thing I wondered about is performers going recurring and what they are paid per episode. I read that at one time they had to paid the same rate as when on contract. So someone who was on $ 1500 per episode would receive that for a one shot appearance. That makes me think of someone like Bill and Susan Hayes and how their payments work as it was years since they were on contract but I can't imagine they would be paid the same rate as some newbie on recurring.
  15. I remember reading in the early 8o's some more senior performers had locked in 26 week cycles in their contracts rather than 13 weeks, so could not be dismissed in that time frame. I think Mart Huswit(Ed GL) was given as an example. Ironic in that he was fired soon after.
  16. I wonder if Barbara would be open to a short Y&R return ? Could be fun to see her mixing it up with Jack and Victor.
  17. Constance Ford was more senior than Wyndham and Watson but was billed after them as was Beverly Penberthy and Hugh Marlowe when they were part of the cast,
  18. Texas starring Beverlee McKinsee Eileen Fulton got special credit in the 80's 'and Eileen Fulton as Lisa' Was it a contract thing that Douglass Watson and Victoria Wyndham got top billiing on AW followed by rest of the cast in order of seniority? A couple of years into GH John Beradino and Emily McLaughlin demanded billing at the end of each episode.
  19. First Love Amy McKees mother ...June Walker
  20. ! think it was Victoria Wyndham that had it in her contract that her scenes were to be taped first so she was out of the studio earlier.
  21. Geraldine Brooks Way of The World 'Deep Down Inside Me' Mona Fenwick
  22. Wasn't it revealed at one point Dina only came back because she was broke? Or am I imagining this? If that is true was it a retcon that she still had Mergeron and was wealthy when she came back in 2017?
  23. Of course there was Eileen Fulton's famous 'grandmother' clause in her contract. From what I understand she gad it inserted in the late 60's/early 70's when Lisa's son Tom son was SORASED and was now of marrying age (Tom married Carol in 1972 when he should have been 11 years old) Eileen had seen what happened to Patricia Bruder's Ellen (who became a grandmother in the late 60's, despite her son Dan being only 12 years old in real time) and Barbara Berger's Claire who become a great grandmother at the same time. Their importance in the story was reduced and they were aged up to make them appear closer to their screen age. La Fulton could see the same happening to vixen Lisa so demanded the clause. Therefore Tom never became a father in the 70's despite 2 marriages. Fulton claimed the clause was dropped when she returned in the early 80's but she received backlash when Tom's 3rd wife Margo had a miscarriage.
  24. Who knows what goes on backstage? Maybe a combination of things. I was totally unimpressed with him as Chance. I don't believe TPTB have to give any reason if the termination is at the end of a contract cycle. It's a pity that the role of Chance has been tainted by this. But the same thing happened with Nate and Sean Dominic was a successful recast so maybe next Chance will be better. Had they not married off Chance and Abby it would have been easier to drop him for a few weeks and create an opportunity for angst in the ongoing Chance/Abby romance.
