Stars who didn't conquer TV
Dorothy Louden garnered attention in the early 60's on Broadway that led to her taking over for Carol Burnett on the Gary Moore show, which had given Carol national attention. Dorothy also got a sitcom pilot at this time. But nothing came of that. Then after her Broadway run in Annie in 77 which earned her a Tony she was back on TV in 'Dorothy' a sitcom that CBS played off over Summer.

Harry and Meghan Interview with Oprah
Also Harry must have been deluded if he thought the British press would be kind to Meghan. They did exactly the same thing with Diana and Fergie by framing Di as Princess Perfect and reporting everything Fergie did in a mega negative way, Until of course they decided Di was a spoiled ,manipulative vixen. It's their template to build up somebody and then turn around and tear them down. Also of course playing into the belief that two young women have to be jealous of each other. Really , it's complete nonsense but for some reason certain members of the family give it validity by reacting. It's the same as people saying anonymous, spiteful trolls are ruining their life with inane comments on twitter and the like.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
Poteet/Lisanti dropped the ball with Maggie /Kyle as it got once a week play through Nov. Lee was pretty much absent also. Doug and Julie were low in appearances also. Guess they were busy reworking other stories and figured some stuff could be backburnered. Mike was around to tease Maggie about Kyle and re-bond with Trish. Chris departed Salem Nov 12th which left Mary and Leslie little to do. Leslie was on once for the rest of the month for a bitchy scene with nuMary about getting dumped by Chris. NuMary did her 8 eps and vanished.

Harry and Meghan Interview with Oprah
The statements made by the couple were clearly intended to cause damage to the royal family. No one can argue otherwise surely. Mission accomplished - in the States - which is where their future lies as media personalities and 'agents of change' I don't think they will be welcome in the UK. They know they have put the Royal family in an awkward position. If they don't respond it will look bad, but if they do, whatever they say can only lead to more conflict. Never complain, never explain...

Another World Discussion Thread
That was a well directed sequence. Sometimes those type of scenes can come off as clunky due to lack of time for rehearsal. Then that flash to the ball with something like 30 extras. Oh for the days of decent budgets...

News & Gossip from the mid-1980s per The Soaps of Yesterday
Julia's daughter is a character that could have easily been used. Meg Bennett seems open to brief returns. She could have ushered Jamie in and visited from time to time. Victor always remained on good terms with Julia so could have mentored her daughter. When Jamie got involved with Billy Victor would have intervened not wanting her near the Abbotts etc.

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
February 1977 Ed Mallory was in a reminiscing mood, recalling his move over from the role of Bill Riley in "Morning Star" to become Dr. Bill Horton back in 1966. Mallory had no idea he would play Bill Horton for what seems like forever, surviving four Laura Hortons over the distance. Ed remembers the first Laura, fragile Floy Dean, a "Morning Star" colleague who was regarded as "too soft" for the role of Dr. Laura. Blonde, tall Susan Flannery was more like it strong. After an eight-year run, Susan departed to be replaced by good actress Susan Oliver, who gave way last summer to tall, blonde Rosemary Forsyth. As Dr. Bill, Ed was asked to test with all the aspiring Lauras. Big ones, little ones all shapes and sizes have played the highly romanticized love scene between Bill and Laura, with Mallory taking home extra pay for the tests. Some weeks Ed made more money on tests than he did on the show. Ed realizes how cold it can be on the outside, working with the eager aspirants for the role of Laura, and he has mixed feelings about ever leaving "Days." Over the years, Dr. Bill has "mellowed," says Ed. "His inner fires have been quenched. Bill was an outspoken surgeon, and usually misunderstood. He used to get around more, and he knew everybody on the show. With the hour format which means no rehearsal the day before, and the larger cast, that's a little more difficult.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Millette/Sara was such a big part of the show in the 70's but the Dobsons didn't seem enamored of her despite her popularity.Joe was killed off (Did Anthony Call choose to leave?) and then she was given another murderous husband. Marland married her off to Adam and then he was dropped and she gradually faded away, This article from 1974 Rehashing a career in the soaps By STEVE HOFFMAN Enquirer TV-Radio Editor You might say that Millette Alexander, Dr. Sara Mclntyre of CBS-TV's "The Guiding Light," is somewhat of a gun-shy person. That's not unusual. I know a lot of people who are fearful of guns and or back-peddle from touchy times. There are reasons Millette is this way. Nowadays on Channel 9's 2-2:30 p.m. soap opera, she is In danger. During a two-year run in "As the World Turns," she had fatal lupus. Things got close in "Edge of Night" for Millette, too. We talked some weeks back over breakfast. Her name is unusual because her father wanted to name her after his father, Milton. "My father still has the paper where he worked it out," she said, figuring a name for a boy and a girl. SHE REVIEWED her "Guiding Light" role, which she began six years ago last January, her longest tenure in any vehicle. She was in "World Turns" two years "off and on" and in "Edge of Night" three different times, about "a year each time. "I'm very busy and everybody's trying to kill me!" she said about "Guiding Light." Her face broke Into a grin, "I have a bucket clause in my contract, requiring that so many tears have to fall!" Her first "Light" husband was Lee Gantry, played by Ray Fullmer, Don DeFore's successor In "Hazel." Fullmer incensed Millette with his failure to know his lines. "I was trying to kill him in real life and he was putting poison in my sherry on the show!" Last year, she was married to Joe Werner, in real life Anthony Call, on the show. "He wasn't trying to kill me but a girl he was having an affair with was trying to kill me!" she said. She was only supposed to play "World Turns" for a short time Millette said she was getting "a substantial guarantee and I wasn't working!" Writer Irna Phillips was forced to keep her around for two years. It seems like the four-month role turned into two years because experts found that Millette was labeled with that form of lupus which is not fatal. All those with the non-fatal kind protested, forcing the continuation. Milette has had one sweet daytime hitch, that time when she played a commercial artist on "Edge of Night," for a year and a half. "1 got married on camera to Wesley Adclie, Celeste Holm's real-life hubby," she said. "It was a most beautiful wedding!" On two later stints with "Edge of Night," she was Laura and Julie Hillyer, look-a-like wives to Lester Rawlins' character. "I fell madly in love with a deejay who was after my money so I killed him in a fit of passion and killed myself in a cliff fall." After four months off the show, Millette came back as another Hillyer spouse. "I was a Marilyn Monroe type, a frustrated singer," she said. She remembered the friction as Laura Hillyer: "I'M SO terrified with guns, sometimes I go hysterical!" she said. "I absolutely go to pieces on the show around guns. But, they know they get good scenes from me when I'm that way!" Her current heavy four-five-days-a-week "Guiding Light" schedule will soon reduce to once or twlce weekly. Millette began rehearsals last Monday for an off-Broadway run of "Medea," the Greek classic. She plays Chorus, the audience interpreter, a la "Our Town." Millette delighted In talking about doing her first play in 10 years, since understudying Connie on Broadway in "Come Blow Your Horn." In shorter summer stock, she has done "A Shot in the Dark" with Eva Gabor and "Fifth Season " with Menasha Skulnik. She said that doing other dramatic forms "can only help me do better In 'Guiding Light."' She said an actor "has to do outside work to become emotionally and intellectually refreshed: Otherwise, you become repetitive and uninteresting' In real life, Millette has been divorced for two years from her second husband. She has three children from two unions, Jenny 10, Will,. 12 and Adam, 17. They live together in rural Nyack, N. Y., on a five-acre spread three miles from Helen Hayes' residence. "I've met her a couple of times at social functions and what-not in Nyack!" Millette said about Miss Hayes. Right now, the Alexanders care for five dogs, six cats, 2.1 chickens and a pony. She "pardoned" two goats: "I found them a home; they're much happier and I'm much happier" It was her first trip to Cincinnati, home of Procter & Gamble, sponsor of all three soaps she has played. ""I feel like I'm coming home because I've worked for them for a lot of years. I feel very comfortable here!"

Stars who didn't conquer TV
Re Four Corners CBS really didn't have a suitable slot for it. Nash Bridges was working well on Fri @ 10 and Walker Texas Ranger on Sat @10. A lot of shows got lost because the networks just order a bunch of replacement shows that don't fit well into the schedule at a particular time but because something has flopped they're pressed into service.

Stars who didn't conquer TV
I wonder if Nia being 'difficult' was more about her trying to keep some control thrown in at the deep end with various execs who thought they knew better (perhaps they did in some cases) As for Julie Andrews I wasn't aware of that show till now. The fact that it aired at the end of May speaks volumes. Obviously they knew it was a dud, Can't understand why anyone at that time would think Andrews would work in that type of format-she is such a particular type. Maybe more suite to a 'heartwarming' hour show CBS was running third on Tuesday nights, so I guess it was hard for them to break through. The lead in was Bryannt Gumbel who had defected to CBS and his show was running third. The opposition was Dateline NBC and NYPD Blue which were running neck and neck so I guess Four Corners just got lost amongst them.

In Ryan's case it was the fact that he had made the leap from TV to movies and returned to the small screen and that return didn't work out.

Y&R March 2021 Discussion Thread
I think the Abbott home and Sharon's cottage got a pass because they were already permanent sets. Covid has probably paid a part also due to the expenses of cleaning extra sets. Hopefully at some point more sets will be allowed.
-
Y&R March 2021 Discussion Thread
I guess the GCAC set was too big. It seems they want to fit as many permanent sets as possible into the studio space so they don't need to pay to have them pulled down, stored and put up as needed, as previoysly happened. In the past years we've lost GCAC Dark Horse complex - now a small office Newman Ranch 2 - replaced by a room Tack room Police station Victoria's house - shrunken down Chancellor estate- redecorated and shrunken Ashby house Lauren's apartment Jabot office - now just boardroom Abbott dining room GC Buzz Brash n Sassy Devon's workspace Summer/Phyllis apartment Am I missing anything?

Y&R March 2021 Discussion Thread
All the storytelling is being affected by the budget- no room for extra sets and characters that would allow for stories to be told in greater depth eg Abby visiting specialists, Faith encountering a mean girls clique, Groan Penis having staff/guests etc, more homes/offices. GH does seem to have better sets.
