  1. It was no secret that Larry was a drinker and I can imagine a certain boys club atmosphere on set. All fun and games for those in on it and not much for those who weren't. Larry knew that Dallas was his final reward and he rode it for all it was worth. I guess Barbara was treated with the respect she deserved and Linda strikes me as one of those women who put up with the boys antics while quietly doing her own thing. Victoria perhaps made her feelings known and got labelled as an uptight drag, just because she had little time for the frivolities. I liken it to any workplace where some people treat it as an extension of their social life- eg 'drinks on a Friday night after work' and those who want to go home get pressured or ridiculed for not wanting to party...
  2. This is not a good look for Morina or the show. Will he step aside, maintaining his innocence,'for the good of the show'?
  3. 1971 Some outfit called Allstar Enterprises were in talks with New Mexico State Movie commission to base proposed daytime serial 'Dreams in the Dust' in that state for economic reasons as well as locale. They hoped for a network sale. Author Kathleen Windsor who wrote the scandalous blockbuster 'Forever Amber' over 20 years previously had been signed as consultant. Allstar also claimed to be wooing former MGM star Greer Garson for a role.
  4. Victoria is supposed to be this savvy businesswoman and there should be the undercurrent that her relationship with Ashland has a business element to it. Ashland could even acknowledge it as they are two of a kind. Instead she's become the nursemaid all a flutter about her 26th wedding. Not sure how Tara loses any say or rights to her son because she was arrested. Has this been addressed? Phyllis' pity party over her dodder is ridiculous. Of course, any parent would be sad their child left town, but Summer has her man and her job, just as Phyllis does. Besides as everyone is fabulously wealthy a trip on a private jet to Milan every few months shouldn't be a problem. Like it when Phyllis dismissed Daniel's existence - 'I hardly see him'- as though that was enough. Trouble is I think we're supposed to sympathize with her...
  5. Ross Marler of Guiding Light comes to mind. Created by the Dobsons as an ambitious, slightly devious character to contrast with his brother Justin. Under Marland he softened and over the years became the good guy. Did the Dobsons have any plans for Ross to clean up his act?
  6. Not included in that report unfortunately.
  7. Lemay didn't write FRFP. Tom King was the headwriter.
  8. Irna headwrote ATWT for its first 14 years but I think there were different producers. Luci Ferri was producer of TGL throughout the 50's, 60's and into the 70's but there were several different headwriters over that time.
  9. Marc Copage , who as a child played Diahann Carroll's son in Julia, auditioned for the role of Bobby on One Life to Live that went to Blair Underwood.
  10. And Louise had a role in the infamous primetime disaster'The Survivors'. Would be interesting to hear more about that also.
  11. Irna Phillips wrote AW and ATWT at the same time in 1964 and ATWT and TGL at one point.

  13. It's interesting to me that Rauch and Lemay got credit for AW Golden years, which pretty much fell apart once Lemay left even though Rauch stayed on through several headwriters. Which leaves me to believe that possibly without Rauch, Lemay would have flourished any way. Rauch, I think tried to make lightning strike twice when he hired Corinne Jacker, thinking that a playwright new to the soap genre would shake things up. He certainly seemed to give her free rein. I guess Rauch had to be credited with allowing his writers some freedom, even when the results were less than ideal. Or was what we saw onscreen the result of Rauch insisting on certain story decisions. Guess we'll never know, unless people from that era decide to talk freely.
  14. To me,that KC Collier doesn't seem to fit with soap writer. But I do agree that KC Collier was probably a pen name for Millee Taggart or someone else. Most likely a scab writer who wrote during the strike. That happened with Don Chastain on SFT and Donna Swajeski on AW. P&G probably rewarded writers who stepped in during the strike and were also punishing those writers who went on strike.
  15. I'm sure that by 75, Somerset was losing affiliates all over the country, not only moving the show away from 4pm but also not showing it all. New York is the top market so that would definitely affect the ratings. I recall that when NY moved Guiding Light to the mornings it had an immediate effect on the numbers.
  16. They had a perfect opportunity to add some conflict when Phyllis went on her rampage. Make Jack a little suspicious of Tara and have the two of them team up to discredit her, while Nick is against Phyllis interfering. Instead he just stood around meekly agreeing while Phyllis was like Godzilla destroying Tokyo.
  17. That was my criticism at the time. There was no background to the affair. It was a cop out to me. They went from A- E and left out the steps in between.
  18. Cool find! Boy that was a slog and I was just skimming. It must have had a released on the back of Magnum, The pilot was aired 10-11pm Sat night so they obviously added extra footage to pad out the running time. JLB got to go on location (it was supposed to be Cosat Rica)and had quite a big part. Funny that she was so magnetic on Y&R but didn't make much of an impression her IMO. Just proves, like so many other 'soapers' that success in daytime doesn't always translate.
  19. Maybe Lorie was just offscreen for a couple of weeks or Jamie pretaped some scenes. I guess it depends on how heavily she was featured in the pilot. It may have only been a few days and she could fit it around her Y&R taping schedule. Although it aired in March 79, it may have been a leftover from the previous season. I'll do some checking to see. EDIT It was in contention for the 79/80 season.
  20. March 79 Pat Falken Smith and her ETC Productions filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Columbia Pictures.Other defendants included Ann Marcus, William J Bell and Betty Corday. I wonder what the details were? Did it involve Marcus using some of PFS story ideas? What was the outcome of this? PFS returned in 81 but then left abruptly, with an old lawsuit being cited as the reason. All very interesting and intriguing...
  21. Just came across a CBS pilot 'Boston and Kilbride', one of several pilots Tom Selleck was cast in before making it with Magnum. Included in the cast was Jaime Lyn Bauer (as a pilot!) So Lorie and Jed were re-united! The show aired in March 79, so maybe one of the temp replacements was because Jaime needed time off to film the show.
  22. As The World Turns Jim Kerr himself WPIX DJ cameo appearance June 1979
  23. Do posters think that Tina Sloan would have made a good Alice? I saw her in some scenes as Olivia on AW up against Vana and she was much livelier and easier to watch.
  24. That was the story that brought Ma Henderson to town? It always seemed odd to me that that character was brought on (never to be mentioned again) Liz always presented as an 'elderly' character, although she was only 44 in 1973. What 44 year old looks like that nowadays? Of course she was supposed to present as careworn. However Dorothy Green (Jennifer) was 53 and presented much more 'with it' to use a 70's term. Although I always found her overly tanned and blonded looks a little harsh.
  25. The headwriter change was probably the reason for the upswing in stories. According to Jason 47: The first half of 92 was Richard Allen/Beth Milstein following on from Gene Palumbo. Sheri Anderson came in mid 92,later joined by Reilly who went solo in 93.
