  2. Somebody didn't think that Jo's full name was Joanne? Having a Jo and a Joanna on at the same time probably wasn't the best idea.
  3. Peggy Allenby By Kathleen Norris 'The Black Fleming' Lily Fleming Charpentier Romance of Helen Trent 1945 Lorenzo Jones 1949 Just Plain Bill 1954 Life Can Be Beautiful Louise Kimball Markham My True Story 1955 Whispering Streets 1955
  4. I posted this in the ATWT thread but I think it deserves a place here also. P Jay Sidney was the second actor to portray Dr Bellows on ATWT, The first was Brock Peters. He is quoted her from a TV Guide article titled ' What the Negro Wants From TV' 20th Jan 1968. Sidney left I believe, when he was not offered a contract. Irna Phillips was writing at this time. I previously read that she refused to write blacks into the series as servants/janitors etc. This is Sidney's take on his stint. Sidney sites his own experiences last spring when he was hired as a regular in an important supporting role on the popular daytime soap ATWT “I was supposed to be a research physician in that series,” he says, “and yet, emotionally and dramatically, I didn't exist as a person. My whole function in those 14 segments was getting a white boy out of jail. I was a non-person in the plot with no life of my own. I didn't have any problems. There were no things about which I was personally glad or sad, nothing to which I personally aspired. I had no past, no future , no family. I only existed for that white boy. I was, in other words an auxiliary, not a person.” His tone suddenly becomes vehement. “Hell”, he explodes, “life isn't just going to a laboratory everyday.”
  5. Well, better than nothing. They desperately need more sets. Seeing Society and the Grizzly Pumpkin day after day is too much. I guess COVID is a part of the problem but the budget must have been severely slashed. Moses is cute but I hate the hair...
  6. Seeing Tricia and Eileen pop in makes me feel for Doug Davidson. I know the situations are different, as Nina and Ashley are attached to a front burner story, but Paul could have been involved in the Rey poisoning debacle.

  8. No way would a soap have gay siblings. Two gay characters to deal with who can't be involved with each other? Dealing with those issues you mentioned? Not happening.
  9. I wouldn't think so. Even if asked I don't think Meg would be interested in going to a low rated NY based show. Was Meg writing for Y&R at this point? Meg was from a different era of the show. She portrayed Liza Walton Kaslo who seemed like a different character to Liza Sentell. Only Larry Haines remained of her family from her time on the show.
  10. 1963 press release showing how little Jada was all grown up now...
  11. I guess there is a place for playfulness on the set, especially in the high pressure environment of live to tape soaps, but I wonder how much is too much? We've seen evidence of how performers would camp up their line readings in rehearsal to let off steam but were Coster's/Considine's 'pranks' during actual tapings? Hopefully not.
  12. Mmmm...maybe Team Bev on this one. I recall how he and Considine were the practical jokers on the set. That can get a little tedious after a while, when you are supposed to be on board with somebody else's idea of fun.
  13. The Mary Stuart sketch bears no resemblance whatsoever!
  14. Would these rather creepy drawings entice you to devote 1 hr each morning to 2 new soaps?
  15. Yes, the 'I'm blind and will be a burden so I'll be noble and lie' was something out of a 1930's radio soap and didn't work in 1976. Bill should have been more inventive in finding away to create a wedge b/w Brad and Leslie.
  16. No luck for me either. I would really love to see these!
  17. Re Tim Brown on Bright Promise. An NBC press release has him appearing as Harold the week of Nov 24-38 1969. So he may have reappeared in March 1970?
  18. Anyone else finding the recent episodes a little lacklustre? I was trying to figure out why and then realized that they are not taping before an audience? There has been no voiceover announcement indicating that recently. If that's the case it may explain why the timing off jokes seems a little off as they are probably so used to responding to audience reaction. Is it the case that they would do the show twice and edit the best scenes together? Also the storylines are getting a little bleak with Becky back on the booze, Darlene's friend and Ben's dad dying, COVID and them constantly facing financial ruin. Maybe just some fun light stuff to balance it out?
  19. If only Corday (or someone) had prioritized the Hortons over the years. Characters like David Banning,Steve Olsen and Sandy Horton had years of story potential and could have acted out stories given to others over the years. I understand that certain characters were offscreen for various reasons but they could have been kept alive in viewers minds by some quick referencing eg in say 1983 Marie gets word Jessica is pregnant and the birth is acknowledged. Tom and Alice could say they visited and Nick Fallon is established from birth. An ornament is added that Xmas. And so on. Establish the next generation instead of them turning up randomly. RE SSH and Deidre. Susan was always such a stylish lady but a some point seem to settle into frumpyish old lady mode with the flowing tops, chunky necklaces, tipped easy care hair do and comfy sandals. Mind you DH is now channeling her inner lesbos with the tartan shirts and pleather jackets. But she certainly presents younger than Susan.
  20. if they did want to go with the twin angle, it would have made more sense for Sam to impersonate Marlena around town in parts where she wasn't well known with a view to setting up Marlena to be discredited or embarassed in some way. Samantha could say she was leaving town and get some LA buddy to verify that but sneak back into Salem and be seen up to no good. Maybe Marlena had a vulnerable patient who Sam could manipulate to be her partner in crime. Later on after Sam's death they could have introduced a new character who was Sam's daughter-maybe vengeful at first but then becoming a surrogate daughter to her aunt Marlena.
  21. Seriously? Bringing Adam back makes him a good writer?
  22. Bill Bell was enthused about this story but he seemed to lose interest and it never came to much. Luan was a passive character who was really brought on as a plot device, only to die a noble death. Keemo was the angry young man but never went much beyond that. I wasn't particularly enamored of either performer but the writing didn't help. I can see why PB didn't like the story as Jack seemed to turn into Cliff Warner and I don't think he wanted an adult son at that stage either. I don't think there were any racist overtones on his part ? Nonetheless Keemo was part of Jack's history and should definitely have returned. SFT had deaf characters in the 70's and Tom Sullivan, blind actor in the 80's.
  23. Matthew Tobin Guiding Light pre 1972 Lisa Richards Guiding Light pre 1972 Earl Hindman Search for Tomorrow pre 1973 Enid Markey The Verdict Is Yours David Snell Another World Search for Tomorrow Jay Barney Secret Storm Capt Barton
  24. Agree that this season is fizzling. Part of that is the familiarity of the format - the challenges where it appears in rehearsal that the whole thing is going to bomb due to a queens inabilty to learn lines/dance steps/carry atune etc- but then it all comes together, The talk to's - 'I didn't come this far to go home now/I deserve a place in the finals/I love these girls but I'll do what I have to win this challenge etc Also COVID restrictions have played apart. This weeks episode was tedious. The song 'Lucky' was awful.I couldn't understand the queen's lyrics and the presentation was basic. We knew they'd all go through. The lipsynch was just to make sure Got/Rose could be crowned and not have people say they never lip synched. Gotmik for the win-not only the most stylish/creative but also funny and seems a nice person. And the trans aspect won't hurt. Kandy is too messy and sloppy. Symone not confident enough. Rose too polished and professional - no spark there.
  25. Have been scrolling through a site with random old Australian TV listings and discovered that ATWT aired in primetime in Sydney on Ch 7 in 1974! It's from Thursday Nov 28th at 8.30pm, This is the blurb... Carol returns home and asks Tom to give up Natalie Bannon's case. Grant and Joyce have a showdown and Grant decides not to divorce her until she has fully recovered. So it seems not to far behind the US storylines. Quite frankly I'm surprised that Oz execs would take to a daytime soap that had been running for nearly 20 years and expect viewers to be interested. Meanwhile the same channel was airing DOOL, Y&R and GH during the day. The Melbourne listings for the same evening do not have ATWT in the schedule, in fact the entire schedule was different. So it looks like ATWT was Sydney only exclusive. Wonder if it was nightly and how long it lasted?
