  1. Pretty Kitty Kelly was an adventure story running from 1937 through 1940 One of the newest and most charming heroines of the air waves is Kitty Kelly, who has "landed in New York" via Frank Dahm's vivid script story, "Pretty Kitty Kelly." The tale of the beautiful Irish girl is heard five mornings a week, Monday through Friday, at 8:30 a. m., over WOW. Kitty Kelly, played by lovely Arline Blackburn, is involved in many an exciting situation as her dramatic story unfolds. Among the adventures and romantic interludes which she encounters are a mysterious murder ... a handsome young man who loves her ... contact with the underworld characters in a great city ... a jewel robbery. The tense situations are brought about mainly because Kitty, upon landing in New York, is stricken with amnesia. Her loss of memory, coupled with her exploitation by gangsters and an English solicitor and countess, make this new story extremely interesting. Who is Kitty Kelly? How will she disentangle herself from the web that is being spun around her? Only the script author knows -and he's not telling! Frank Dahm, the author of this delightful serial, says that "Pretty Kitty Kelly" was born of a "chance inspiration." Chance, a trip to New York and an Irish mother -in -law were the ingredients which started this mystery melodrama on its course. You see, up until a few months ago, Mr. Dahm lived in or near Chicago. New York was just a name to him. Then he decided to visit the big city and find out what all the shouting was about. The writer was dazzled, and out of that bewilderment Kitty Kelly was born. Upon his return to Chicago, he went to tea with his Irish mother -in- law. Their discussion brought out facts about the Irish people . . . their temperament, habits and very considerable and inimitable charm. Something happened in Dahm's head. His young and lovely heroine . . . the one who was to see New York for the first time and marvel at its many wonders . . . would be an Irish girl just over from the old country. Yes, he had it! And now you hear it over WOW.

  3. So what is LLB's deal with Y&R? She pops up randomly. I once read she didn't want to come in for filler scenes but with such irregular appearances that's basically what they amount to. Her lack of availability really didn't help Doud Davidson's status on the show.

  5. It's really funny when Nina jokes about Phillip calling Katie for a date, cause he actually did end up dating Chloe and Nina hated that. Meanwhile Abby won't be born for almost another 10 years but now they're all kind of the same age! Yes and Victoria was already married when Billy was born. Just about everyone is now in the same age group. I wish they had kept the SORASING more consistent so that there were more delineated age groupings.
  6. I didn't realize that it wasn't until 75 the Janice/Leslie burst into song but this news item verifies it. As the Tube Turns: Janice Lynde will be unveiling her vocal talents on the Feb. 24 installment of CBS's "The Young and Restless" singing a love song during a scene in which she marries her fiance, Brad (as played by Tom Hallick). Janice, best known to viewers of the show as the prudish Leslie Brooks, has been working for months with voice coach composer Phil Moore in preparation for her big day .
  7. Had there been internet back then, that story would have caused a ruckus. Totally invented plot that did not play out onscreen. Up till that point Carl had gone from regular to occasional presence, mentioned then not spoken about, but never stated to be missing.

  9. August 1967 Daytime series role 'Liz' Confuses Pamela Toll ANY DAY SHE Is not working, she can be seen lunching la a corner of Sardi's. She is such a regular in the restaurant that she has become "engaged to be engaged" to Peter Gina, Vincent Sardi's nephew. "I came here originally because it's interesting and I was in show business, and it was convenient to mv auditions." "She has stayed to make friends, be seen by people wondered about the pretty thing thing in the corner and find her future happiness. She is Pamela Toll, win be 19 this moat, and Is a veteran of 11 years In show business. Currently she is playing the role of Dr. Liz Wilson in the NBC-TV daytime series The Doctors. And she's a bit confused. "Liz has changed character so many, times, she doesn't know who she is. She started as a kook, then became a manic depressive, then she got normal, then she got a mad crush on her boss. We have been playing It that way for several weeks now, with looks and inflections. Suddenly, the director came to us and said something about a catastrophe. Seems the writer told him we have been all wrong. And now we have to undo those looks. How do you undo two months' work?"
  10. The Corringtons were long gone by this stage - they departed when they began writing Texas in 1980.
  11. Thanks for posting that. Summer of 81 and the beginning of the story that had Travis and Liza on the QE 2. Didn't know Tucker Smallwood was still on as Bobby that late. Search always had good production values but the stories were lacking. Zach and Sylvie were short term and the whole story had no long term repercussions. Wish there had have been credits.
  12. A short recap of what was happening around Oct 1960. This was when the show moved to Hollywood and story and cast changes reflected that. The Brighter Day, Dramatic Series, Begins New Season As The Brighter Day enters another year on KFDM-TV Channel this fall, its interwoven dramas take new direction that promise continued absorbing viewing in the coming year. With the Reverend Richard Dennis established as Chaplain of Westmore College and settled in Columbus with his daughter Babby and Aunt Emily, his position as spiritual mentor to young people offers great rewards as well as constant challenge. The greatest challenge facing him currently also represents a paradox as daughter Babby remains very much attached to Peter Nino, an unsavory young man whose gambling has already led to more serious transgressions and has involved college students in scandal. In spite of painful scenes between father and daughter and his attempts at guidance, the coming months will see Bobby cleave to Nino although her unhappiness increases. Nino's unregenerate attitude, now strengthened by a desire to avenge Babby's misery, threatens unexpected difficulties for Richard. A major development this season will be the arrival of Grayling Dennis. Richard's son, and his wife. Sandra, to settle down in Columbus. A childless couple now in their mid-thirties. Grayling and Sandra have adopted a 14-year-old girl and in the midst of their efforts to help her through normal adolescent upheaval, her real mother appears to claim her. The girl's conflict, the mother's machinations, and the court battle for custody that becomes inevitable deeply involve the Reverend Dennis as the multi- facited drama unfolds. Blair Davies and Mona Burns continue as Richard Dennis and Aunt Emily, respectively, with Nancy Malone as Bobby and James Noble as Grayling. The Brighter Day is a CBS Television Network Production with Leonard Blair as Producer.

  14. November 1976 Women Given Break In 'Executive Suite By John N. Goudas NEW YORK (KFS) - "Executive Suite," 'CBS' glossy prime-time soap opera, hasn't really caught on with the viewers as yet, but it is building. It's the type of show that might sneak Into the hit status if it gets the chance to stay on the air. The women's movement should be pleased that "Executive Suite" has more parts for actresses than any other TV series of recent memory, and one of the most beautiful and talented members of the fine cast is Sharon Acker, who plays the harried Helen Walling, wife and mother. Ms. Acker's lovely face should immediately conjure up one of TV's prestigious series from the recent past, "The Senator," in which she co-starred (again as a wife) with Hal Holbrook. She describes her association with the short-lived but still-remember "Senator" as a happy and unhappy time. Happy because it was her first starring part in a TV series and unhappy because she was let go in an attempt to refurbish the series which won awards but didn't rack up the high ratings. "I wasn't informed that they were considering minimizing my part, It just began to happen and finally I approached the powers behind the show about it, and they left me no choice but to leave before I was reduced to a voice over the phone," the actress said. The whole thing is academic now since that was some years back, but you could still catch a fleeting flash of pain in Ms. Acker's eyes when she recalls the affair. Of course, there's no chance of that happening to Sharon In "Executive Suite" since she figures Importantly In the plot lines.. However, there are so many plot lines running simultaneously in the series, based on the popular 1954 movie, that Sharon and the rest of the company have to make their moments on screen count. Just before the series was scheduled to go into production, Sharon got together with her TV family, husband (Mitchell Ryan), son (Leigh McCloskey), and daughter (Wendy Phillips) and the quartet of conscientious and caring actors worked to create the feeling of being a family. The obvious immersion and real joy she displays when she talks about acting keeps the subject fascinating even to the most inexperienced layman. Even though Sharon Acker could pass for 30 years old, she's the mother of four teen-age daughters in private life.
  15. This season is starting to drag for me. The awful Rusical and the backtrack on dumping Kandy. Snatch Game, apart from Gotmik as Paris was a disaster. Why on Earth are they picking social media personalities that nobody has heard of and have no comedic value? As for Tina as Richard Simmons and Eliot as Rue ...lord make it stop. I've noticed that the judges always praise another (unworthy) performer -in this case Denali as Jonathan Van Ness. Symone just did her usual schtick. The runway was dull. No surprise that Elliot left. Final 4 - Gotmik, Symone,Rose and ? I'd hate to think it would be Kandy.
  16. Dorothy Louden garnered attention in the early 60's on Broadway that led to her taking over for Carol Burnett on the Gary Moore show, which had given Carol national attention. Dorothy also got a sitcom pilot at this time. But nothing came of that. Then after her Broadway run in Annie in 77 which earned her a Tony she was back on TV in 'Dorothy' a sitcom that CBS played off over Summer.
  17. Also Harry must have been deluded if he thought the British press would be kind to Meghan. They did exactly the same thing with Diana and Fergie by framing Di as Princess Perfect and reporting everything Fergie did in a mega negative way, Until of course they decided Di was a spoiled ,manipulative vixen. It's their template to build up somebody and then turn around and tear them down. Also of course playing into the belief that two young women have to be jealous of each other. Really , it's complete nonsense but for some reason certain members of the family give it validity by reacting. It's the same as people saying anonymous, spiteful trolls are ruining their life with inane comments on twitter and the like.
  18. Poteet/Lisanti dropped the ball with Maggie /Kyle as it got once a week play through Nov. Lee was pretty much absent also. Doug and Julie were low in appearances also. Guess they were busy reworking other stories and figured some stuff could be backburnered. Mike was around to tease Maggie about Kyle and re-bond with Trish. Chris departed Salem Nov 12th which left Mary and Leslie little to do. Leslie was on once for the rest of the month for a bitchy scene with nuMary about getting dumped by Chris. NuMary did her 8 eps and vanished.
  19. The statements made by the couple were clearly intended to cause damage to the royal family. No one can argue otherwise surely. Mission accomplished - in the States - which is where their future lies as media personalities and 'agents of change' I don't think they will be welcome in the UK. They know they have put the Royal family in an awkward position. If they don't respond it will look bad, but if they do, whatever they say can only lead to more conflict. Never complain, never explain...
  20. That was a well directed sequence. Sometimes those type of scenes can come off as clunky due to lack of time for rehearsal. Then that flash to the ball with something like 30 extras. Oh for the days of decent budgets...
  21. Julia's daughter is a character that could have easily been used. Meg Bennett seems open to brief returns. She could have ushered Jamie in and visited from time to time. Victor always remained on good terms with Julia so could have mentored her daughter. When Jamie got involved with Billy Victor would have intervened not wanting her near the Abbotts etc.

  23. February 1977 Ed Mallory was in a reminiscing mood, recalling his move over from the role of Bill Riley in "Morning Star" to become Dr. Bill Horton back in 1966. Mallory had no idea he would play Bill Horton for what seems like forever, surviving four Laura Hortons over the distance. Ed remembers the first Laura, fragile Floy Dean, a "Morning Star" colleague who was regarded as "too soft" for the role of Dr. Laura. Blonde, tall Susan Flannery was more like it strong. After an eight-year run, Susan departed to be replaced by good actress Susan Oliver, who gave way last summer to tall, blonde Rosemary Forsyth. As Dr. Bill, Ed was asked to test with all the aspiring Lauras. Big ones, little ones all shapes and sizes have played the highly romanticized love scene between Bill and Laura, with Mallory taking home extra pay for the tests. Some weeks Ed made more money on tests than he did on the show. Ed realizes how cold it can be on the outside, working with the eager aspirants for the role of Laura, and he has mixed feelings about ever leaving "Days." Over the years, Dr. Bill has "mellowed," says Ed. "His inner fires have been quenched. Bill was an outspoken surgeon, and usually misunderstood. He used to get around more, and he knew everybody on the show. With the hour format which means no rehearsal the day before, and the larger cast, that's a little more difficult.
  24. Millette/Sara was such a big part of the show in the 70's but the Dobsons didn't seem enamored of her despite her popularity.Joe was killed off (Did Anthony Call choose to leave?) and then she was given another murderous husband. Marland married her off to Adam and then he was dropped and she gradually faded away, This article from 1974 Rehashing a career in the soaps By STEVE HOFFMAN Enquirer TV-Radio Editor You might say that Millette Alexander, Dr. Sara Mclntyre of CBS-TV's "The Guiding Light," is somewhat of a gun-shy person. That's not unusual. I know a lot of people who are fearful of guns and or back-peddle from touchy times. There are reasons Millette is this way. Nowadays on Channel 9's 2-2:30 p.m. soap opera, she is In danger. During a two-year run in "As the World Turns," she had fatal lupus. Things got close in "Edge of Night" for Millette, too. We talked some weeks back over breakfast. Her name is unusual because her father wanted to name her after his father, Milton. "My father still has the paper where he worked it out," she said, figuring a name for a boy and a girl. SHE REVIEWED her "Guiding Light" role, which she began six years ago last January, her longest tenure in any vehicle. She was in "World Turns" two years "off and on" and in "Edge of Night" three different times, about "a year each time. "I'm very busy and everybody's trying to kill me!" she said about "Guiding Light." Her face broke Into a grin, "I have a bucket clause in my contract, requiring that so many tears have to fall!" Her first "Light" husband was Lee Gantry, played by Ray Fullmer, Don DeFore's successor In "Hazel." Fullmer incensed Millette with his failure to know his lines. "I was trying to kill him in real life and he was putting poison in my sherry on the show!" Last year, she was married to Joe Werner, in real life Anthony Call, on the show. "He wasn't trying to kill me but a girl he was having an affair with was trying to kill me!" she said. She was only supposed to play "World Turns" for a short time Millette said she was getting "a substantial guarantee and I wasn't working!" Writer Irna Phillips was forced to keep her around for two years. It seems like the four-month role turned into two years because experts found that Millette was labeled with that form of lupus which is not fatal. All those with the non-fatal kind protested, forcing the continuation. Milette has had one sweet daytime hitch, that time when she played a commercial artist on "Edge of Night," for a year and a half. "1 got married on camera to Wesley Adclie, Celeste Holm's real-life hubby," she said. "It was a most beautiful wedding!" On two later stints with "Edge of Night," she was Laura and Julie Hillyer, look-a-like wives to Lester Rawlins' character. "I fell madly in love with a deejay who was after my money so I killed him in a fit of passion and killed myself in a cliff fall." After four months off the show, Millette came back as another Hillyer spouse. "I was a Marilyn Monroe type, a frustrated singer," she said. She remembered the friction as Laura Hillyer: "I'M SO terrified with guns, sometimes I go hysterical!" she said. "I absolutely go to pieces on the show around guns. But, they know they get good scenes from me when I'm that way!" Her current heavy four-five-days-a-week "Guiding Light" schedule will soon reduce to once or twlce weekly. Millette began rehearsals last Monday for an off-Broadway run of "Medea," the Greek classic. She plays Chorus, the audience interpreter, a la "Our Town." Millette delighted In talking about doing her first play in 10 years, since understudying Connie on Broadway in "Come Blow Your Horn." In shorter summer stock, she has done "A Shot in the Dark" with Eva Gabor and "Fifth Season " with Menasha Skulnik. She said that doing other dramatic forms "can only help me do better In 'Guiding Light."' She said an actor "has to do outside work to become emotionally and intellectually refreshed: Otherwise, you become repetitive and uninteresting' In real life, Millette has been divorced for two years from her second husband. She has three children from two unions, Jenny 10, Will,. 12 and Adam, 17. They live together in rural Nyack, N. Y., on a five-acre spread three miles from Helen Hayes' residence. "I've met her a couple of times at social functions and what-not in Nyack!" Millette said about Miss Hayes. Right now, the Alexanders care for five dogs, six cats, 2.1 chickens and a pony. She "pardoned" two goats: "I found them a home; they're much happier and I'm much happier" It was her first trip to Cincinnati, home of Procter & Gamble, sponsor of all three soaps she has played. ""I feel like I'm coming home because I've worked for them for a lot of years. I feel very comfortable here!"
