Some of these kid actors are decent when they’re young but don’t grow up to be very good as they age. People like Kimberly McCullough and Camryn Grimes were exceptions the more I think about actors who started on soaps young and are still capable when given a chance.

The Rocco actor continues to be the best younger actor on this show. I felt it when he told Danny that they’d always be brothers no matter what anyone says or does. Too bad all the Danny actor can do is smirk after he recites every damn line in return.

I think BTG has an uphill battle if we talk pure ratings. It has direct competition from GH in that timeslot, and obviously the 2pm timeslot is less desirable in terms of getting an afternoon audience. Not to mention, it will follow a creatively bankrupt BOLD in most markets. That said, more telling is how the show resonates and does with Black demographics from the onset, the demographic the show was originally created to serve. That is the main audience they hope to aim advertising $$$ to and if they don’t support it, that will be a major issue.

I think a lack of optics is a systemic problem in mainstream media when it comes to how ethic characters/characters of color are portrayed or even named. It’s a problem that continues to happen. These shows continue to have no black or ethnic voices in the writers room or in production, so there is no voice calling out how naming a domestic character “Mamie” would be problematic. I don’t have confidence that an elderly white man would know any better, especially if the name was based on someone he knew in real life. It’s a sad reality, and the show has never bothered to correct it, showing those in charge still don’t see it as an issue. Staying with Y&R, the same applies to Latino characters. Diego with the Newmans (once portrayed by all-American Greg Vaughn), and the never-seen Mrs. Martinez with the Abbots. These characters were either barely a blimp on the show’s radar or never-seen - did they have to infer they are Latino when a Latino presence is non-existent otherwise on the show? The optics problem continues to be pervasive to this day.

The cliche grieving mother writing for Alexis is so surface-level. These writes can’t write anything with depth, nor can Frank produce anything with real depth or emotion. NLG is doing all the heavy lifting here.

Mamie tested very highly with black women in the South as an fyi. A lot of black women wrote into the show about the character. However, a lot of them felt she wasn’t entirely reflective of who they were, so Bell created Drucilla and Olivia as a response.

Oh god, not Van Hansis doing that awful fish mouth acting again in emotional scenes. As green as he is, I am sure Asher Antonyzyn (Danny) will be the better actor in those scenes…

The better lighting has done wonders for these actors as they don’t look washed out like they used to.

I think the Bell example is because he was also a credited EP/producer on Y&R remotely, like MVJ will be for BTG. This stemmed from a Twitter post about MVJ going back to LA and how she was going to produce a show remotely, I believe. Did Irna have a producer credit in addition to creator and HW credits? She, of course, did micromanage every aspect of her shows remotely regardless as well.

MVJ is ultimately the creator, HW, and main creative EP - it’s her reputation on the line if the storytelling sucks or is offensive to the audience. I chose to believe she won’t tolerate any nonsense since this is her creative legacy on the line here.

Frank never had much of a vision on his own to begin with at either OLTL or GH. He keeps things moving, but “visionary” is never going to be a word associated with him.

I forgot to mention that I liked that sequence in Thursday’s episode of Nikki announcing Devon and Abby as husband and wife with the happy wedding music in the background, and then Victor waking to the door with the music shifting to something more intense. Griffith’s stories are still mundane and illogical, but at least the show is more aesthetically pleasing than it’s been in a long time. It definitely helps elevate the questionable material.

Faith also wasn’t at the wedding - Abby’s her aunt, Victor and Nikki are her grandparents, but she went out with friends instead (all while Sharon is mentally unhinged mind you).

Regardless of material, Hansis was always a pretty sh!t actor that overplayed everything at all times to me.

Yes, no different than when say Bill Bell worked and lived in Chicago for years, but was still the Senior Executive Producer of Y&R.

MVJ is not a technical producer, she doesn't need to be on-set supervising production or dealing with the actors. I assume that's what Julie Hanan Carruthers will be primarily responsible for. It makes sense MVJ was there for the first 3 week since she created the show and they likely needed her to advise as the show got off the ground.
