Yes. The legal liability for doing that would be huge.
Playing it once without authorization might be a mix up. But keep doing it after the owner of the copyright asks them to stop? No way a big corporation would take such a legal risk considering how much of a gimme a legal case it would be for the victim.

Which also brings up: if that was the case, it would have been an easy legal case for him to make for a lot of money. Why would he have done nothing about it?
Show-business can be shady but I don't believe this story as told. There has to be more to it.

It's a strange thing to bring up 40 years later lol.  There has to be more to the story.  Maybe he didn't get paid, but GH's use of it helped it become popular, therefore helped record sales.  Idk, it seems like the actual use of it on GH and the popularity and eventual record sales would be worth more than royalties from a soap opera?  I guess ideally he'd get both, but GH certainly doesn't have the money to pay him now lol

The easy guess is that his record label owned the rights to the song/master tape, hence could license it to ABC. If there's money to be paid, then corporations are going to go after it. I'm sure Cross got paid in royalities, but maybe didn't receive a direct check from ABC.

Plus, his label were likely glad to get the exposure, but I can imagine that his management (and himself) wasn't thrilled with the idea of him becoming some singer best known for putting out songs about fictional characters after Arthur's Theme (ironically, it was his last hit single).

On Monday 4/12 and well...at least it appears to be picking up again.

But REALLY?? They let Peter do THAT. A great cliffanger for Friday. And got a reaction for sure.

Here for Liz having doubts. Here for a Scotty/Jason teamup (with some Dr. O on the side). And I guess they are going with that SORAS Spencer. Of course by doing that I am going to suspect he is behind who is terrorizing Ava.

YASSSS, ANNA!!! TAZER THAT CREEP!!! Though...that look on Peter's face was out of the B&B Liam School of Reactions.

So...they are going there. Sasha is gone so it will be a Michael/Willow/Chase triangle. It has not bored me as much as others, but I hope it brings out the Q in Michael again which we have not seen since he disowned Sonny and Carly.

OH? So this is the voice you all were talking about with Peter. Yeeeah that is like nails on a chalkboard. Not scary at all, but it makes me want to slap him a la Cher and tell him to snap out of whatever is making him sound like that.

That said...at least WR is committing to playing Peter as the villain. Fully. Now KILL HIM OFF. LOL.

There's a lot of great individual scenes going on that I'm liking. But whoever decided to make Portia look more homely need to quit downplaying her beauty.

I admit I love that they have been slowly playing this beat with Chase realizing he does not feel well while the other characters are slowly realizing what Peter done in that regards. I can't say I am not curious to see where it goes.

On a shallow note, BrookLynn's bodyguard...HELLO!!! It made me miss the days of when Sonny would always have a bodyguard on Carly and how she used to hate that.

    • MVJ seems to be cognizant that Leslie and Eva are true breakouts for this show:

    • Yesterdays episode was a great lead in the fireworks for today.  It is a shame that Naomi and Jacob are not there and Nicole's best friend Vanessa and Doug.I am interested to see the fallout from this.  I do think that Eva is Ted and Nicole's daughter.
    • Okay, I hear ya. But, you know Josh Griffith on one Thursday night fired 7 or 8 writers in one fell swoop! That totally blew my mind. But, I still think this is bunk. And, no, the show is not that bad! Literally, my only problem with it, as a fan, is that I think it could be great & it's just not. It's good, not great. They still are not on top of pacing. They routinely take too long to tell stories. But, one example, the scenes this week with Lulu & Laura were like old time soap come home!
    • Ok nevermind, Wolf is in Marian's getup on the Jan 9th episode. Lucy wakes up at the lighthouse and it's now Marian, drinking tea, and sounding like an old British woman a la Mrs. Doubtfire

Wolf is actually doing a good job as Brett, but I don't think they made him look like a believable Marian - its too clown/drag, but also creepier - and Wolf has a large nose they couldn't hide. I guess at this point, it didn't matter since she was unhinged and revealing him/herself anyway.
    • This is the *new* Rachel Black who just started airing on DAYS 4/25/2025, but of course with the ginormous tape-to-airdate gap on DAYS, she'll be airing on DAYS for months to come. And yet now she'll be new ex-Rachel. LOL.
    • As someone who cut ties with the show a little while after Chris Van Etten came back, I can’t talk on what the show is like now… is the show that bad? But even as a rumour, that’s pretty wild and radical. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that before.
    • Yes, I know JK is getting on in years, but perhaps he and his family (wife and/or son) could work with him as co-headwriters on the new TEON! I would also be available as a story consultant!

    • It's too bad they didn't see it through. Alan and Van could have married for all the wrong reasons and ended up caring for each other, with Ross in the wings and possibly Rita, too, to cause trouble. Rita was a LITTLE BIT of a schemer. She was kind of the Nola of her era, without the goofy personality. She deliberately went after Ed because she thought he would give her the lifestyle she wanted. She could do malicious things, i.e. cooly seduce Evie's crush (who was played by Jordan Clark, btw) and string him along until she was sure she had Ed. While Rita claimed to be deeply in love with Alan at the time she departed, part of the attraction for her was his money and power. As well as sharing aspects of Nola's character, she was also a more subtle version of Reva-she grew up poor and always wanted more than she had.
    • I'm not that surprised, in just the little we've seen of her she's been a complete natural. Even better than a handful of the adults.
