I noticed that.  Thought I was hearing things, or that they may have found a better version of the original piece of music.  It's very similar, yet seems a bit different, with more of a beat.  I don't know...

There were also a couple of modern cues added that I know were not there there originally, maybe to fill some quiet scenes.  The rest of the music seems to be original.

Did the 1973 opening ever get an update? And did Jeanne Cooper or Jaime Lyn Bauer ever appear in it?  I know it was altered around 1975, but Y&R was always slow to update their opening credits until the JFP era. Like the show would go 2+ years without adding prominent cast members. And up to 6 years for the opening at the end of MAB’s run. The red opening never added any new cast members in the early 2000s. And the 1990s opening was only updated every 2 or 3 years.

So glad to finally see the second episode!

The first and second shows edited together actually worked really well and though some things were cut it was still easy to follow along with the sequence of the scenes.

Seeing the entire Brooks family together (minus Lorie) was great, It's interesting how Bill Bell definitely explained the class difference between the upper working class Brooks and the Poorer Fosters just by the dinner scenes, and we see the Foster household where an exhausted Liz has to basically act as both father and mother. It's definitely easy to tell where Snapper and then later Jill would get the desperation to make sure their family wouldn't stay poor for the rest of their lives. I guess Greg was the only Foster Sibling to not really try to appear as a social climber.

@YRfan23 That episode might have Sharon #2 and Amy #1. Going by memory here, Julianne Morris came on in early September 1994 (either during the US Open short week or the week after) and Sharon Case came on mid-September.

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.  It just seems that Rea was minimized during JFP's tenure because I can't imagine her okaying so many of these casting choices.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
    • Sorry, just one more post on the Thorntons. How did Ruth and Edna feel about each other prior to Tad dating Dotty?
    • I can't remember exactly but I think it may be 1995 as Jake was trying to hide from a loan shark.
