I genuinely think the ratings would be "surprisingly" good. People would get into it and would be able to follow the stories. Also, I don't know if you were just using it as a random example, but March 1998 would be a great point to start lol

Long term, I think a good idea would be to show critical episodes from a classic storyline for one week. For example  a week of the most important episodes from the Paul gaslighting Cassaundra plot.

They should do a weddings week. Like Chris & Snapper's wedding from 1974, Leslie & Brad Eliot 1975, Jack Abbott & Patty Williams 1982 etc...they can skip Nikki & Victor's since they have ran that into the ground in recent years.

Nothing new said here, but watching these classic episodes (or should I say vintage as ‘classic’ possibly shouldn’t be applied as a broad stroke with some of the choices), serves as a depressing reminder what we probably have to look forward to when everything is up and running down the line.

I saw a suggestion that perhaps the series should be run in order from a point in 1998. Sign me up for that. Hardly any of it has dated badly in terms of language or subject matter, that I can recall, and we’d have the benefit of the older sets, Bell/Alden writing and superior production. It would be a riot if it build up a steady following, given that it would effectively serve as a first run for some of the few younger viewers the show has today.

Just saw the episode where Traci and Brad get re-married and enjoyed it. MTS was earnest in her portrayal of a woman struggling and you could see the degrees of PB's Jack becoming more and more exasperated and Nikki's belligerence when Jack orders her to go home.  Today's Y&R would have made Nikki a stumbling, bumbling fool absorbing all the attention. And the frosty undercurrent between Traci and Ashley, with Jill trying to suss out Dina's intentions toward John. All this subtext of personal intrigue and slights just under the surface of polite idle chatter, which is something that Y&R used to do quite well.

    • This underscores the biggest issue that the show needs to work on.   The majority of the characters on the show are all related to one another, which is why we have that B&B esque Dani/Andre hook up situation

    • It was a good episode. I didn't expect things to unravel so soon.   One thing I still don't like about these big events: Where was everyone else?   This is a big event. Everyone should've been there.
    • Mitch, thanks for that history of the Reardon Boarding House kitchen.  I had always assumed that every time the kitchen set returned, it was a recreation of the original set.  So I have been wrong about that.   Was the kitchen set ever used later, while Buzz and the Coopers owned the boarding house?

    • Do they ever do anything well?  The show is about 4 week story arcs - if that it feels like.  Why wouldn’t you spend a month of subtle hints.  Late to events and don’t telegraph it.  Have repeated issues with time; I had a friend whose Mom suddenly was forgetting half the meal in the fridge to be heated for a meal; twice her husband had to go to her work to get her because she was still working and only noticed no one was there until he walked in to find her and make her come home (it was a doctor’s office, there’s not that kind of job);  knowing she had an appointment and not be worried by it, etc.   No, they have him do a head bonk and bam it’s cancer.     It’s almost an insult.

    • Today showed why almost no one comments on this crap soap. -- We're back to pretending that there aren't SCORES of cosmetics companies out there --  only Jabot and whoever else opens up shop in Genoa City to be the competition. No real business runs this way. -- Marchetti is supposed to be an internationally-renowned fashion house, yet both Chelsea and Sally are ready to walk after being high-level executives there. -- It's not often women leave choice executive positions in their field of expertise to work in a business they're clueless about. -- Sally had a lot of nerve shading Chelsea with "It's easy to see Adam's influence on you" when the same damn thing is happening with Billy. -- I'm glad Lauren told Michael to quit, since we've all been mouthing that for weeks. None of that story is helped by CLB's over-the-top acting. -- The scene with Victoria helping a sick, coughing Cole walk to their car on the way to the hospital was laughable. Wouldn't rich people call a damn ambulance? -- Claire was really concerned, wasn't she? She stayed in the doorway instead of helping her mother, and then headed right to Crimson Lights for coffee. Why bother with checking on her possible terminal father at the hospital?
