"On Tuesday, May 5, Nikki dreams of reuniting with Victor after Ashley (Eileen Davidson) is out of the picture, and Phillip (Thom Bierdz) makes plans for a future with Cricket (Lauralee Bell). The episode originally aired August 17, 1987."

Anyone know what the actual airdate was? Phillip says in the episode that the current month is September.

Cricket ate the show from 1987 to 1989. That era also saw a change in EPs (H. Wesley Kenney to Ed Scott) and three major cast departures (Brenda Dickson, Eileen Davidson, Terry Lester).

Haven’t watched the 87 episode yet but wanted to comment on 1981.

JLB was gorgeous and a perfect leading lady. I was captivated by her. That Vanessa woman was so interesting, I want to see more.

These classics are great. It’s so good to see EB so invested in his material. Nowadays he plays Victor like he’s about to fall asleep.

Great to see Terry Lester as Jack. Cricket was such a boring and annoying character. Two gay men in Danny and Phillip fighting for Cricket yawn. They should've been a couple. Phillip buying an engagement ring was laughable.

Almost every random episode I've watched from 1987-1999 features Cricket Blair. I rolled my eyes as she tried to keep up with Jeanne Cooper in today's (5/5/2020) classic episode. I can only imagine how viewers and actors felt at the time!

Terry Lester was perfect as Jack. Arrogant, lovable. What a great actor!

I agree with Phillip and Danny being a couple. That would've been scandalously fantastic! Maybe Phillip started drinking so much because everyone wanted him with a girl named Cricket (*eye roll*) when he had all of those illicit feelings for pool boys and Danny.

Cricket, later called Christine to make the character feel more mature I suppose, truly ate up the show for a good number of years then. All roads led back to Cricket...

I do miss Tricia Cast and wish she had been able to stay with the show all these years. Nina was a fascinating character.

I am so frustrated with CBS All Access.

They even had a clip advertising the Katherine week, and never posted the episodes.  They removed the ad finally from the Y&R page.

It was awesome seeing the classic episodes they did post though.  Just wish the others had shown up.

@Soapsuds Hahaha. That's 1980s cheesy pop goodness right there.

If anyone here was a fan of 2000s hip hop, you'll remember these songs. I think they sum up this week's theme

    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
    • The way I took it is that he did not want to confirm or deny anything until he talked to Nicole first. He was very calculated with the wording he used with Martin and Kat
    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.
    • You're welcome

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
