Even she couldn't salvage it. Like Maura as Diane, they should've created new characters for both actors. Interestingly they both got saddled with SN - who was the real problem during that era. But it was Mishael's sheer charisma that made this role work, even when she and many others were let down by terrible and sometimes deeply offensive writing. Justin Hartley's career has taken off so I doubt he'll return to Y&R, and we all know the previous two actors won't be considered at all.
