A "bad" episode is still worth watching. It wasn't the most exciting episode though. Jack/Ashley/Ravi, Michael/Phyllis, Michael/Kevin, Kevin/Summer, Nick/Summer/Faith, Nick/Phyllis, Sharon/Chelsea/Chloe/Mariah/Hillary/Devon ...

Cane, Kevin, Chelsea and Chloe could all be successful with the proper writing. I haven't hated any of them but none of them are really needed. Chelsea has become as basic as they come, Cane was always basic and Kevin's long outlived any purpose he may have served. I guess I don't hate or want Chloe gone because I like Hendrickson and I like that Esther's daughter is on the canvas so I'd make her work before I shove her off. It's just the writing the last decade has done them no favors and they're interchangable.

Lachlan Buchanan was adorable on Fuller House Season 2 (he played a gay Irishman that DJ wanted to ask out after she and Stephanie crashed a wedding). I'd bring him back as Kyle but they'll probably recast.

A bit of an overstatement, DeeeDee. They may not have played Jack & Lauren's sexual history (Michael was right there), or held each other like Michael/Phyllis do, but they acted close and both Phyllis AND Ashley mentioned they were friends. But they could do more.

Don't get me wrong - I may have criticized today's episode, but we're still far better off than we were five episodes ago. As we all have noted, the new team was left was almost no stories that mattered and so they are doing the best they can with the pieces that are there. Fortunately, Y&R is blessed with numerous vets/characters that can fairly quickly be moved into new, but not unnatural, situations - Phyllis with Michael/Lauren and, even Nick. All of that felt both fresh, but familiar and not forced. I credit them for moving Sharon, Phyllis, Jack, Michael and Lauren quickly out of bad (or no) stories into something new.

TBH, I keep up with the show even when I'm not watching, and wasn't always a watcher, and I would have never known Jack and Lauren have a history or a friendship. And I pride myself on being up on relationships between characters. I do my research.

Aaaah. I see. Oh, man. Then he'll probably fυck her, and she'll go crazy.

Fair enough, but that's something that hasn't been played by many. They still made a point of mentioning they're friends, though, and certainly acted friendly enough. Perhaps it got lost in the shuffle of everything that was happening, which has been pretty fast, IMO.

No, I did catch that. Jack mentioned he and Lauren are friends. And I guess through Phyllis of course they should have had some interaction. Not every relationship can be played on all of the time. I just thought maybe there had been more there that I was missing but it doesn't seem like it.

They seemed perfectly friendly when Jack was asking for a donation from Fenmore's. I mean I'm not sure what people were expecting from their interaction to indicate that they're friends...

I think they slept together in the 80s? So there's no residual sexual tension or anything like that. It's been 30 years lol

Tracy Bregman is killing it with her quiet desperation. All that stuff about Lauren's business and her father gets me.

Based on their business stuff the other day I can hypothetically deal with either Chloe or Chelsea around but not both. They're the same person in a lot of ways. I could still toss both of them. Cane still must die, but that dude's a cockroach and I suspect protected by Sony or the network.

I always thought Lester's Jack and Lauren had more of the friendship thing.....to be fair Bergman's Jack hasn't always played up the Lauren and Jack relationship as much as Lester, and doesn't have the chemistry that they had based on what I've seen of early Jack and Lauren.....

Gotcha. Not sure whether they ever actually slept together but they were good friends all the way back to the 80s and there were always strong sexual undercurrents (it was Terry Lester, so what else?

) even in 2000 when there were propositions and kissing involved.

    • Well, Josh was a horndog. LOL Yep. It was one of the first really weird things Reva did with her PPD. She became obsessed with the idea that Dylan and Sam should get married. Sam was only 17, and needed her parent's permission. Reva helped them leave town so they could go to a neighboring state where Sam was old enough. Ross, Billy and Josh stopped them, then Sam went to India to try and persaude Justin. Reva followed her and didn't tell Josh she was going. While Reva was gone, Josh advertised for nannies, and Harley applied. He ended up hiring someone else. But when Reva returned, she hired Harley because (in her weird mental state) she wanted someone she could trust with the kids (because she feared Josh was trying to get rid of her and that Vanessa wanted the children.). After Reva starts treatment, she asks Harley to stay until she's stronger because she's good with the kids. At the party, Reva starts going off the rails, insulting Justin and Josh hauls her to a private dining room to ask WTF. Reva starts confronting him about the "affair" with Vanessa, and he realizes she is weird. He locks her in the dining room and frees Mindy and Van from the ladies room (where Reva has locked them in). Van starts telling him that Reva attacked her and needs help.  Reva escapes out the window of the dining room and goes back to the party, climbs onto a table and starts a striptease. Josh gets her to stop, takes her home and after filling Ed in, decides to go to the doctor the next day. Reva then takes off and spends days running around town, coming on to a guy she thinks is Billy, Billy, Hamp, Frank and Roger.  Roger takes her to his apartment and takes nude pictures of her, which he tries to blackmail Billy with. He wants the deed to the land the Towers is on in exchange for them. (Billy had been left the deed by a sweet old lady who lost her home in the 5th street fire. Roger had stolen the deed from her before she died. After Roger took those pics of Reva, she saw him hide them, and took an envelope from the hiding place. She didn't realize she'd taken the deed and not the pictures.)  Anyway, Billy and Vanessa trick Roger into burning the pictures, claim the deed and at the Towers opening reveal that Billy owns the land and therefore the Towers. That's what led to Roger and Alex's breakup and Roger and Mindy's affair.
    • All the time they spent trying to make viewers feel sorry for Chad only for him to not even last that long. I wonder if they knew Richard Burgi was going so quickly. You're right about Josie replacing Cheryl. On paper, this should have made sense, given all the ties Josie had to the canvas, but I did prefer Cheryl. There was something very synthetic about Alexandra Wilson.  I suppose even if she did have some fans they were just so used to getting rid of people left and right, so she was more collateral damage. As you said above I do wonder what the plans were for Peggy Lazarus. I think AWHP mentioned her once telling Peter that Peggy Lazarus wasn't her real name. Maybe she would have been another Carl moll... Rebecca Hollen never did get her due in her soap roles.
    • So true...Hackney might have had a story on FC with Richard being an old lover of his, but reveals herself to be a Cartel member and blackmails Richard with something into doing her dirty work  LOL. But of course Richard had his hands full with the double trouble sisters Ms. Jones and Ms. Braxton that season.

    • Cat herself will be a stumbling block all her own as she vowed to Chad to stay away from him, thus redeeming her of her crime morally. Classic DAYS would have them gazing longingly at each other at Doug's Place or Blondie's, while Liz is serenading the room with a song aptly chosen to represent their feelings of emotional turmoil.
    • From what I just recently watched, they were setting her up to go into future stories. She was Emmy nomination worthy in the material I saw. If some viewers did not like her, the character could have been rehabilitated after that sick storyline. It feels like they destroyed a character for fun and then tossed her to the curb. Spencer had chemistry with everyone. I'm just retroactively angry on Spencer's behalf.  You're right about how Cheryl was often forgotten and pushed aside and I would take Cheryl over Josie. I think soaps need characters like Cheryl. Characters like Josie are way too common. Josie always got on my nerves.
    • CBS was back in third place in 1994/95. That was the season CBS lost NFL broadcasting rights which also cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 CBS was sold to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrived. 1995/96 CBS was trying to be young and cool to compete with NBC and Fox, but it was an epic failure and CBS was once again in third place.
    • I tend to think that Chad will actually listen to Jen (this time). And that will be the next stumbling block in their relationship, which will open the possibilities for Cat to seek another member of their love triangle... To iterate my earlier thought, I am also not a fan of the person Melissa Reeves, but the character of Jennifer looks so chic this week, especially in comparison to Hope (and Gabi).  That blunt haircut is a winner.
    • I think Cheryl was essentially replaced by Josie, and it seems likely that Lemay wanted to bring the Frames back into the picture and for a variety of reasons that it would be McKinnons who would make way for them. Cheryl didn't really get many layers -- she was pretty and kind and sweet and faded into the background so that Scott could participate in the AIDS storyline with Dawn. Looking at the AWHP, other than (not very) shockingly being in love with her mother's adopted son Scott, Cheryl apparently went out with Sam and flirted with much-too-old-for-her John Hudson and MJ's ex-boyfriend/pimp Chad. I know MJ told Mary that she had been a prostitute, but did she tell Cheryl and did she tell anyone about Chad's pimping?
    • I feel the same way about Melissa Reeves' Jennifer. She just makes the show feel like home by her presence alone. I am perfectly okay with them coming in every once and awhile, which probably fits Reeves' schedule better anyway. Their connections to Salem are still there: JJ, the grandkids, Jack still owning half of The Spectator ... they're perfect recurring characters. All this talk of Jennifer being in the wrong regarding Cat is absurd. Jennifer is not being villainized in any way, shape, or form, she's just being allowed to actually be human, which adds odds to the obstacle of Chad and Cat eventually getting together. All inner conflict. Keep it coming!
    • Hahaha. Jean Hackney, Angelica Nero, and the Falcon Crest henchwomen were all straight out of a James Bond movie.
