I don't think Ron is that interested in Sonny or the mob overall. But they know where their bread is buttered and how much I suspect the network will allow. They had to pull back a lot after their first year to keep the mob in first position on the show. Playing with Sonny in this way - making him do unspeakable things and then not even bothering to walk it back, just to see how much the audience can take - also suits Ron's lazy style of shock beat writing with big payoffs and nothing else these days.

I think Ava can go on for a long time with smart writing. Worse criminals than her wriggle out of their comeuppance for years on soaps. But this team is not very smart.

It's not so much the bad things Ava did as the range of the character. Pining over this man and that man, depending on the day of the week. The confusion over whether we were supposed to cry for her or hate her or love to hate her. The non-starter relationship with Kukla. It all feels very tired. You'd think she had been on the show for a decade.

I tend to wonder how much the network really cares about Sonny or the mob at this point. Frons did, but Frons is gone. Most of Sonny's stories are stories that Frodd would have been given for eternity on OLTL. It's easy to write for Sonny because you can have him do anything, and the Jamey Giddens brigade will lead the charge for his hero prize.

I think MB and Sonny is/are one of the few recognizable longtime leads which most of the ABC Daytime people in charge might still recognize for branding and PR purposes - along with TG, and possibly Genie Francis. Even people who haven't watched GH in decades can remember Luke and Laura or Sonny and Brenda and, unfortunately, Jason. It's easy for someone with a passing knowledge of the show's focus groups or past or whatever to come in and say, as it was rumored they did, 'this show is kind of missing that big thing the fans loved, right? Sonny and the mob? Do more of that.'

I don't think Ron has ever had a passion for mob stories except on his own terms, where it showcases people or plot beats he's invested in. He can barely be bothered to give any of those proceedings even a hint of depth, it's all about the next plot point. Sonny goes directly to jail after being found out, along with Julian and Ava; the trials take either a day or two or don't appear onscreen at all. Michael immediately gets custody of the newborn Avery after approximately two or three days in court. Duke and Shawn and the running of the mob is scarcely seen. His focus is the family conflict - the problem is that the family conflict is extremely shallowly-written. If he cared, he would have known Carly would never have backed Sonny against Michael, and Alexis, for all her hypocritical bullshit about Sonny and Julian, also wouldn't be spending hours lecturing Michael on 'getting revenge'.

Michael's small victories against Sonny are currently the only thing worth watching. As others have stated though, this is NOT Carly. She would never in a thousand years pick ANYONE over her first-born. As for Morgan...there are no words.

Oh the clever, "soapy goodness" writing - that was the same shitty story they used for AJ when Michael was a baby.

I don't think he really cares about the mob, but showing men behave in a variety of disgusting ways as they make sad faces and the town cries for them - that's his forte. And that's Sonny. It's always been Sonny.

You know one thing that always gets me is how the few people I know IRL who watch GH all either like Sonny, or don't care about him, but hate Michael and hate that he wants the baby.

Sometimes when I'm on here, or one or two other boards, I forget just what a vacuum we're in.

Sonny threatening Michael was laughable. Im glad Michael wasnt intimidated. I wasnt for what Michael is doing but he won me over in the last 2 episodes

Rocco is huge. When he get so big?

Glad to see Felicia finally appear onscreen again

LOL at Olivia asking if she should be embarrassed that her grandson will be older than her baby

The Shadybrooke nonsense is such a waste of time

Tracy being nice seems so out of character for her. She loves Avery, likes that she's called AJ and is welcoming of her? Tracy hates most Quartermaines that arent her children, especially interlopers with no blood relation

The Corinthos family bonding....that whole family is trash

None of that has translated into "writing". The baby just happens to be fussy, no matter who holds her. They arent writing it that people are commenting that she cant stand to be around Michael

lol..she already has

    • Hold up, is SD making the booty pop? Maybe he's trying to compete w/ the BtG booty popping hahaha.
    • It's sad she can't be a part of his on-screen tribute somehow.
    • I feel the same. I didn’t expect to care about them but the chemistry is strong and I’d love to see them go public and try to make it work.
    • Keith D. Robinson has a lot less screen presence so far than Maurice Johnson had, but I think he's probably a much better technical actor.  I couldn't be happier we're finally moving along with the caucasians. Andre and Ashley better be f*cking by the end of the week, or so help me, just to move the story along even quicker. That's the second time there's been a hint that Dani will get involved with the Doug/Vanessa/Joey story somehow. Maybe it'll happen in response to Andre/Ashley getting together?
    • I have this STRONG feeling that if they put Derek opposite a Kat, Eva, Chelsea, or Shanice, I would NOT be surprised to see him pop and shine. Ashley, on the other hand, has Andre and the actress cannot even sell that pairing. I am really starting to believe that Ashley is the problem and might need to become a year 1 casualty.

    • Honestly, rewatching the mid-80's, I wonder if Pam Long GAF about anyone other than Reva. Even Alexandra, who isn't getting any great story that I can see, she revolves around her precious Brandon.  Reva is supposed to be plucky, "tell it like it is" brave for living with no regrets, while she pisses and moans, biting the Lewis hand that clothes and feeds her so she can lust after a virtual stranger because they've both "hungered" to be a Lewis and feel like they've been excluded from the precious Lewis circle of trust.  Lord love a duck. Long didn't know how to write for strong women. She's not interested in Annabelle, Nola, Katie (although she hadn't had a story since '81) or Trish, Mo and Claire have babyitis, Roxy's an ex-whore, Mindy's spoiled but occasionally tries to grow up and Beth cries all day everyday. Yes, Vanessa isn't the mover and shaker she was upon entering Springfield. But at least she was allowed to grow as a character. Unlike Reva, she's not hamstrung in some eternal sexpot role that she can't escape from.  As much as I dislike some aspects of the Dylan storyline, it's arguably Long's best umbrella story. Yes, it could've been written without Vanessa, but it's undoubtably richer for her being in it.
    • Thank you! I feel the exact same way. Xander and EJ are great villains. This moment between Xander and Philip has been building since November. It was ugly, it was horrible, but it was real. Not some Nickelodeon b.s. that this show has constantly served for years. Now, a big part of why I like these characters are the actors who portray them. They are dynamic, charismatic, and genuinely talented. They actually feel like the new Stefano and Victor, but without being carbon copies. They are their own messed up, villainous, bastards. There are multiple characters in their corner and against them at any given time. Both good and fellow bad people in the community praising and damning them. The show feels like a soap opera again. And crazy as it is to say, I'm even more excited to watch it then I am Beyond the Gates most days, and that's saying a lot. As for Stephanie's book, they're keeping me intrigued wondering where it's going. Bringing in Kate was a genius move. However, I'm still Abigail Klein's biggest hater on this board. Generic Barbie is literally the Sofia Mattsson of DAYS to me, just a complete wash of an actress. However, I think her being a PR person is a damp squib of a profession and since we're stuck with her this could be a way of finally getting her away from her "successful firm." Body and Soul was her lowest low, even worse than when she was poisoning apples or whatever trying to kill Chloe of all people. Philip returning was the best thing to happen to her character in ages. When both stories were happening simultaneously, you could literally see the difference in how much energy she put into performances from one scene to the next.
    • I find the black & white episodes FAR more atmospheric and spooky than the color episodes.   The first few months of Dark Shadows move ploddingly slow when you're binge-watching, with entirely too much repetition and exposition.  But as someone noted above, it's the only time in the show when you get much character development.  After the 1795 sequence, it's pretty much like "just make something up; nobody cares."   The series essentially became self-parody with the overload of monsters & ghoulies.  I was watching a scene one time in which the Witch was attempting to stop the Phoenix from staking the Vampire, and I got tickled at the absurdity of three "monsters" in one scene.
