Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

KT is almost always universally panned across the board with AE deemed as the one true Tina and KW a worthy replacement. KT, Tina and love arent 3 words Id put together. I didnt mind her though but anyone loving her is an unpopular opinion

I didn't really get into KT's TIna mainly because she just struck me as a flakier version of Mindy Lewis. I actually preferred Karen Witter so I guess that's another UO.

Back when Karen Witter played Tina people loved her. It has only been years later that people started talking about how she was not Tina.

I think Karen's always gotten a fairly positive response online, considering she was only there for three years.

I didn't mind Karen Witter's take on Tina...but I certainly missed Andrea Evans a heckuva lot.

Same.  Of course, I'd never suggest turning Rick into another generic soap hunk.  I think you could have on a soap opera someone with the right combination of good looks and sense of humor.  It's just takes a HW and EP with imagination.

Yes, I realize that you were not advocating a generic himbo version of Rick, but I was always afraid that that's what the unimaginative, desperate-to-attract-teen-girls PTB would do. Once upon a time, quirky, interesting actors would be hired to play all sorts of parts, but in the last few decades, more often than not, "romantic leads" have been generic model types.

thats not an unpopular opinion. KW was very loved as Tina during her stint

I just posted this in the non soap UO page, but it works for the soaps too IMO:

I really think it would be interesting for TV to have a teenage and/or college age girl/guy who have never had a boyfriend/girlfriend before, just to show that not everyone winds up dating at that age, as there are people who have this experience in real life (I, um, fall into this category myself). I know it might seem boring for some or like it limits the character, but there are people who don't start dating until college, or even their mid 20s, especially if they're shy or reserved (and it would only give them a higher rooting factor if they keep having unrequited crushes, making the first relationship even more special).

This can also include even going on a first date, as sometimes it takes that long to get to that stage, too.

So far I've never felt sorry for Steffi on B&B.

I find Avrey on Y&R to be useless.

Carmin on Y&R isn't hot.

A light-hearted UO:

Since Finola Hughes didn't attend the Emmys the year she won hers (in 1991), I'm perfectly fine with the idea of her taking NLG's home for herself (since NLG was able to personally take her first one home in 1989), not only because it could be put in place of the one she never got to take home 21 years ago, but because she's the one who presented it.

...I'm totally kidding. Sort of. tongue.png

I'm thinking it had to do with Duke's death, as Jonathan Paget (or FakeDuke to some tongue.png ) was on that year. That or the Olivia Jerome stuff or the introduction of Faison.
