If she had decided to take Hope and go to PCU to study medicine or something like that, and start her life over there as a young single mom trying to make it (I know, it sounds like a sitcom to some degree), I think that could have been a great story. They tacked on a man for her just because the show seemed to believe that no woman is worthwhile unless she has a man, any man. That they have so little respect for the character that she has to just pass out for an entire episode doesn't say much, but then, it's a good welcome for her life with Sonny and Michael.
