Great to hear her talk about her time on the show, her castmates, how it was to step into an already established role, and how she feels about the changes the show has gone through over the years.

She voiced so many of my own feelings about that subject especially.

And I particularly loved what she said about Matt and Dolly not being boring, but relatable. Such a profound statement, and one that I think the producers and writers of todays shows should take to heart.

It really irritates me when people say that the show was boring back then and that nothing happened. That is so not true. A lot of dramatic stuff happened, just not all the time. And that made the impact so much bigger when something did happen.

I guess we'll have to see where it goes, but since Victoria is hardly going to bring back Emmerdale Farm I wonder what the point will be.

Furthermore I don't think that Annie had any property left in the village. I distinctly remember that she sold her part of the farm back in 1996 due to money issues.

But anything that gives Victoria screentime is appreciated.

I think it will end up with her having a war with the Tates (maybe she can ask Robert for his hitman's number before Kim calls hers up). And I could see Andrea sleeping with Luke, or something.

I'd like to see Victoria start up her own farm to phase Moira out of that part of the show, or to bring in more farming characters, but good luck there.

Well, I'm finding myself not disliking it....

Joking aside, there is actually something quite touching about it in its simplicity.

If we couldn't get a big send-off for Annie, and for a multitude of reasons that was never going to happen, then I think this is the best alternative.

Thanks for the clips @Forever8

You and @I Am A Swede might be interested in this. I'm going to tag @vetsoapfan and @NothinButAttitude @All My Shadows as well. It's the episode where Jackie Merrick dies. Other than the Pete/Rachel material, which isn't awful, but still grosses me out and feels like the real shift toward more needlessly melodramatic times, it's a slice-of-life episode with a lot of warmth and light alongside melancholy, and a slight unease in the air leading up to the final scene. That scene is impeccably done - a world away from what you get on soaps like EastEnders now with an emo woe chorus blaring from the skies.

(in case anyone is curious, this was that strange year or two year period where Clive Hornby [Jack] had left the show)

    • BITD I was posting about how interesting it was that Denise had been with this same guy for simply years but they just did not marry - then that year they married!
    • Random takes from this week: - Bill’s been played way too soft by the actor. I just can’t buy him doing anything truly sinister. I wish he had more of that old-school Victor Newman edge. - On characterization: I’m fine with Leslie being shown as a narcissistic and cruel mother—as long as she doesn’t tip into full cartoon villain territory. Dani’s involvement in Nicole’s storyline feels natural to me, and I really like that Martín is such a hothead, which totally clashes with his polished political career. No wonder no one wants to confide in him. Also, I don’t mind Haley’s characterization at all. - I’m still annoyed they dropped the whole lawsuit storyline. That’s why I’m a bit hesitant about getting too invested in the June plot. Also: I can do without another instant-sibling storyline. - Ashley and Derek? Totally fine with them in small doses. That’s the best way to handle those two. - Thank God Ted is getting recast. I honestly couldn’t handle that constant swaying much longer. - Speaking of Ted: maybe I’m in the minority here, but that hotel set is hideous. The oversized boiserie makes everything look flat, and that artwork on the wall? Bland, ugly, and lifeless. - I’m 50/50 on the product placement. On one hand, it’s totally misplaced and campy—especially when it shows up in the middle of emotional scenes. It just feels wrong. But on the other hand… here we are talking about Febreze and Tide. So maybe it is working? I honestly don’t know. - I don’t have any issues with the fashion on the show overall, but André’s wardrobe is just off. Not in terms of style, but size. His tops are way too tight and actually make him look even shorter than he is. Same goes for Smitty. Both of them would seriously benefit from some larger blazers or chunkier sweaters.

Didn't know about this song. LOL. Lyrics - Junkies down in Brooklyn are going crazy They're laughing, just like hungry dogs in the street Policemen are hidin' behind the skirts of little girls Their eyes have turned the color of frozen meat No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Catholic school girls have thrown away their mascara They chain themselves to the axles of Big Mack trucks The sky is filled with herds of shivering angels The fat lady laughs, "Gentlemen, start your trucks" No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave no, no (Christina) no, no, no, no, no (Come to mother) no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no... (Christina) Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave Joan Crawford has risen from the grave
