  1. They still could have Liz address the situation, saying she and Stuart had decided to part. Stuart was still running the Chronicle but it wasn't central to the plot so he could have stayed in GC but no longer part of the story. There was no need for him to be seen.
  2. This has been discussed elsewhere. In Days case, as we know all the tapes were kept, whereas on the live shows they had to specify ahead of time if they wanted to retain a particular scene. So days had access to all past episodes, the reason the flashback is lengthy I believe is that tape editing was not as advanced so they had to show the entire scene.
  3. So Y&R recognizes it's roots with Janice Lynde returning. But not one mention of anything to do with Leslie's time on the show. She could have been anybody. I'm sure newer viewers would have wondered why she was even there.
  4. Let's add Addie and Tom Jr into the mix.Apart from Marie the rest of the Hortons were old before their time. Tom and Alice were supposed to have married young, By the time she was in her 50's , Alice had 30 years of wife and mother under her belt. She was also a grandmother. Raising all those kids she wouldn't be paying much attention to fashion and personal style. Also at that time, women of a certain age adopted a look deemed appropriate for their age. Also I guess they wanted Alice to look a little older when they were casting actors who weren't young enough to be her children IRL. Actually, later on Alice dressed much more fashionably as a woman in her 70's.
  5. So why is she still strutting around tow? Her punishment seemed to be being locked up for a few months, then allowed under supervision of Rey to see her ailing mother. Then Rey returned, so she suddenly didn't need supervision. When she returned all was forgiven and forgotten and she and Rey were besties. Really?
  6. They should have gotten a lot more out of the Steven character. Ashley's marriage should have lasted longer with more complications. Still maintain he could have been Steve Williams, again tying the Williams and Abbott families together .
  7. I suppose Corbin was LA born and bred and moving to NY and getting some soap work was seen as training/waiting for the big break-a primetime series. Jeanne worked in primetime and only accepted Y&R because work had dried up for a woman her age. She may have defended soaps but I'm sure she was still supportive of Corbin doing other stuff than being locked into soaps at a young age.
  8. I recall that John Kelly Genovese criticized the story at the time because Doug and Julie acted like idiots throughout (although some might say this was in character) He felt it should have been a story that showed how their great love would help them overcome their struggles rather than the usual ' I can't be a burden to my husband, so i'll pretend our love has died'
  9. Actually it was the Monday episode that ranked #67 with 9.2/14 The special Fri ep had a 13.8/24 #48 - nowhere near FC but a big jump over Monday. Dallas was #3 The Mon EP was up against Pt 2 of the Lace miniseries on ABC which was #1 for the week. I wonder if this was more about saving a new FC episode for later and burning off EP rather than trying to save it. No FC set Matt Houston on ABC to #21, much higher than usual.
  10. Would love you to share some of that! When was that? I assume EP was already struggling by this point and to expect viewers to be interested in a serial with a random episode is a big ask.
  11. With the way the shows are taped today, I don't know if they could tape scenes ahead having to have particular actors and sets available weeks before.
  12. I get that, but I wonder if they thought of putting Emerald Point Fri at 10 and moving Falcon Crest to Monday at 10. EP would be compatible with Dallas and might have become as successful as FC in that slot. Meanwhile FC would sit well on Mondays and provide familiar programming there rather than trying to establish a new serial. Re The Mississipi Here's a show that showed some promise 10 o'clock Fri so what do CBS do-throw it to the wolves Tues at 8 against the then hot A Team and ABC comedies. Either they had great faith in the show or someone at CBS wanted to dump it. Did Ralph Waite get a series guarantee from CBS to stay on The Waltons at some point? Maybe that was a deal done by a previous regime and they were forced to honor it. Always fun to play scheduler...
  13. Not to take anything away from MSW and GG, but NBC's powerhouse Thursday lineup was absent that week so Cosby,Family Ties and Cheers which would normally have been in the top 5 were missing. Also MSW and GG were new episodes up against repeats on the other networks. The following week GG was 5th and MSW was 9th.
  14. I posed in the thread about Fires that the Wade bookstore was destroyed in 1980. This had been an Oakdale meeting place and provided enployment since the 60's. It was started by Neil Wade,Penny's husband -right? Does anyone have more details? I suppose Penny ran it until she left town. Who took over? Did Penny still own it all those years? I know in the 1979 eps we saw Lisa and Carol working there. Who else worked there over the years? It looked a pretty dreary place in those 79 episodes. Without a major revamp it wouldn't have survived the book boom that came along with Borders,Barnes & Noble etc.Lucky it burned down when it did!
  15. The Dobsons had the Wade bookstore burn down. That had been an Oakdale institution since Penny's husband Neil opened it in the mid 60's.
  16. Wasn't it stated that at the show's debut Nov 65 that Julie was 16? This was less than a year later so would Julie have already jumped 3 years in age? Possibly. Would we viewers at the time have been happy about David being killed off?
  17. Denise Alexander as Beth Logan would have been great! Good idea.
  18. Of course Falcon Crest had it's own following but CBS never moved it (until the very end)which was a rarity for the times. Even Knots was moved twice to 9pm to try and build another show behind it. Dallas moved to 9pm to open the lead out to Falcon Crest. It wouldn't have been unheard of to move FC to a 9pm slot elsewhere or even 10pm on another night to allow a new show to benefit from the strong Dallas lead in. When FC finished it season in 83,The Mississipi starring Ralph Waite played for 6 eps and ended up in the Top 20. When it was moved to 8pm Tues the following season ,it flopped, but that's another story.
  19. I would love to see the stories that were used during that time.
  20. Even if they didn't kill Chelsea, they could have set something up that she was in the car to at least tie into the Chelsea/Rey coupling they were hinting at. That would have given some follow through with that story thread. As it is they spent weeks building to that and nothing eventuated. Looking back there was no reason for Sharon and Rey to be married in the first place. it would have been natural for both of them to be gun shy of marriage and that could have played into their relationship. Imagine if Sharon had finally agreed to marry Rey just before he bit the dust. Now Sharon has yet another marriage under her belt. Maybe it's time for Nick and Sharon to marry, be happy and deal with other stuff.. Go with the 'search for Sharon's dad story'. Re Mrs Martinez-is the budget that tight that she couldn't be seen every few months and have a couple of lines?
  21. Morgan Brittany (as Suzanne Cupito) Purex Special for Women 'Child in Danger' 'molested child' NBC daytime Nov 1964
  22. Only Melody has ever had a temp - Robin Eisenmann back in the mid 80's for several weeks.
  23. Search for Tomorrow Looked like they were trying to integrate Andrea into the story but she was dropped later in 73? John was new to the canvas and maybe they tested John and Andrea before moving him to Eunice. Then they had Stephanie arriving soon, so Andrea was superfluous, especially with Len and Patti gone. Then Len and Patti returned. Did Andrea get an exit story?
  24. Really? The same scene that has played several times over several months and goes nowhere.
