  1. Just discovered that actresses Jimsey Somers and Jocelyn Somers are in fact the same person. Jimsey changed her name to Jocelyn as she matured and wanted to not be associated with 'child actress' tag. Ann Thomas Edge of Night March 29/30 1961
  2. Jacquie,I beg of you, stay away from the creepy doll !!!
  3. I'm about a week behind in viewing so often too late to contribute. Also, I feel like I'm being too negative which can be a bit of a downer, but I watch each show and pretty much think about how the scenes and story could be better told and constructed. One thing I read on SOD was Camryn talking about the kidnapping story and how it was hard for her to be on the one set by herself. She said she taped scenes for 3 episodes in one block, which makes me wonder about the taping schedule.
  4. Week ending May 29 1961 1. The Guiding Light 10.1 2. Search for Tomorrow 9.0 3.As The World Turns 9.0 4. The Millionaire reruns 7.6 5. The Verdict Is Yours 7.6 6. Concentration 7.3 7. Face the Facts 7.1 8. Love of Life 7.0 9. Price is Right 6.7 10.Edge of Night 6.6 Guiding Light at no 1, outscoring it's lead in SFT and ATWT, #1 soap at that time. I've read elsewhere that ATWT began a weekly run(unbroken) as #1 soap in 1960 but these ratings say otherwise. One explanation is that these are Arbitron figures and it was Neilsen ratings that were most referred to.
  5. Yeas and Karen Wolek was a passenger and witness to that. Did Pat and Karen ever have it out over that?
  6. The reveal by slick Jones that Beverlee McKinsey played Diana Martin solves a long standing mystery. But, as is often the case, new questions arise. Did the writers create the role with the intention of Diana becoming the long term character of Diana Lamont? Or did they make the decision and then decide BM wasn't suitable? She stated that she wasn't the best match for the role. Charles and Diana are mentioned as coming on as neighbors of Bruce and Vanessa. it seemed like they were an established married couple, so why was she known as Diana Martin? All those story details are lost unless an article is dug up or a long term viewer makes a contribution. Here's hoping!
  7. Bill Hayes is amazing. NBC should be going all out on cross promotion with an appearance on Today or Tonight show. At 96 he is the oldest regular working actor in Hollywood. The man had a #1 hit single in the 50's and was a regular on the legendary 'Your Show of Shows'. Wouldn't it be great to see him recognized for his achievements?

  12. I think Goutman's mindset about soaps echoed those of the majority of execs at that time. He came to soaps as an actor in the late 70's and early 80's and then moved on to directing. That was a time when soaps underwent a dramatic change in direction (thanks Gloria!) and he was part of that. Execs saw soaps as continuing story that needed action and drama during sweeps to keep the dollars coming in. If that meant evil twins and clones - so be it. To get young women, they believed you needed young characters and 'hot couples' The generational aspect and slow unravelling of stories was tossed aside. I recall an interview with Goutman where he clicked through channels saying that's what viewers did now and only something eye catching would hold them. So soaps went for big moments to try and entice them to stay. It was an interesting philosophy but numbers and engagement kept dropping, so they doubled down...
  13. Brad and Jill catch up. From 2009.
  14. Carolee Campbell in 'This Is My Son' in 1977. Was it an Afternoon tv special? Can't find anything about it. This seems to be the only acting Carolee did after leaving The Doctors.
  15. Marjorie Gateson (Grace) and Haila Stoddard (Pauline). Haila looking a little 'Some Like It Hot' in this shot.
  16. Jeanne Baird Regina Gleason, Micheal M Ryan
  17. Exec producer Joanna Lee on set with producer Robert Getz and cast. Lee was one of many exec producers in the 80's who tried to lift ratings.
  18. Kathleen Widdoes, Virginia Dwyer, William Prince 1958
  19. I never knew that John Larkin (Perry Mason on radio) appeared on TV's Perry Mason with Raymond Burr in 1962. Wonder if that was mentioned as a publicity angle? John played Mike Karr when Perry Mason was re-imagined as Edge of Night.
  20. Found some photos from the first episode where Lisa boards the train to Chicago.
  21. Add Robin Amos to the list. His/her name is on a July 1980 script. IMDB credits them with SFT and GL in the early 80's. Maybe Bill was trying out different writers for the expansion.
  22. Thanks for that. I had completely forgotten about that thread. I knew writers had been discussed in some detail but thought it was buried deep pages back in this thread. Will add it over there.
  23. Have we listed Robin Amos as writer during the Bill Bell era? I came across the name in a July 1980 script. He/she also wrote for SFT and GL in the 80's but that is all I could find.
