Young & Restless - December 2021 Episode Counts, and Year End Stats
Paul has been mentioned so there is a slim possibility he may return, if either side has a change of heart. Doug accepted recurring but then there were a few months where he wasn't used at all and he mentioned on Twitter that he had no upcoming appearances and things took off from there. I guess he expected (maybe was told?) that he would get a certain number of episodes per month.

Love of Life Discussion Thread
Maggie was married to Link Porter. When Maggie died, Link married Tammy Forrest. (Tammy was an alcoholic who was going deaf!!) Then Kay turned up and tried to steal Link. Kay may have been blonde when she arrived in town, but at some point was brunette (a pic I've seen) Perhaps she ditched the blonde to more resemble her sister and attract Link. Link died in 66. Guess Sandy was Link and Maggie'.s child. I wonder if Kay was an afterthought who was brought on to disrupt Link/Tammy or always intended to come on? How much time elapse b/w Maggie's death and Kay's arrival?

THE COLBYS
ABC aired 2 eps of The Colbys in Wk 1 of the 86-87 season. The first Wed @ 10 following Dynasty Dynasty #15 20.1/31 The Colbys #28 16.6/26 The next day The Colbys went head to head with Knots Landing Knots #38 14.8/23 Colbys #56 10.2/16 So Knots was the winner but it's numbers were down from it's 10 o'clock rating. And the new CBS 10 o'clock show came third in it's slot. Luckily Knots survived, but I get the feeling ABC had already given up on The Colbys.

Y&R January 2022 Discussion Thread
Seriously, we have Chelsea who tried to poison Rey, now buddying up to him and walking free?? Josh seems to come up with plots and doesn't have to worry about follow through because he'll pretend it never happened. Of the top of my head, some plots that would take characters in a new direction. Imani makes serious moves on Nate, who can't help but be attracted. Build up some tension. Have Elena reconnect with Devon so we can move toward Devon/Nate/Amanda/Elena/Imani. Lots of twists and turns. Jack returns from NY and tells Phyllis he doesn't want to re-unite. Daniel and Lucy return and Phyllis can be focused on them a while. Lily tires of Billy's antics and turns to Daniel her ex. Lucy becomes part of a triangle with Faith and Moses. Nick hooks up with Sally which annoys Adam and Phyllis. Sharon and Rey team up to investiagate her father and something comes to light that triggers that search. Chelsea decides she wants to be a part of Johhnys life which causes problems for the Newmans as Billy agrees to it. After talking to Mariah, Devon realizes he has to pull back from Dom. He wants to experience fatherhood but Amanda is reluctant and confides to Imani she doesn't want children. Does any of that sound better than what's coming up?

ALL: Couples you are surprised never reconciled for good
Re GL Morgan and Kelly were the couple at one time but the change in writers, actors meant they got lost in the shuffle. At least when Kelly left he could have intimated he had heard from Morgan and they were going to give it a second shot.

Series Original/Working Titles
I recall that B&B was Top Models' in France and didn't they name it 'Caroline' in Greece or was that just a nickname due to the popularity of that character? Otherwise it would have to be renamed 'Caroline's Friends and Family' or some such when the character died.

Days of Our Lives: December 2021 Discussion Thread
Say what you will about Days but it gets people talking... Wayne returning as Roman-well he has not aged well, especially as Deidre is almost ageless, so purely from a shallow physical standpoint, John is a better match for Marlena. Just as Josh's Roman has never been used as viable alternative to John, despite the history. So the writing/plotting would have to be superstrong to give Wayne a chance. Over to you Ron...

Y&R January 2022 Discussion Thread
According to SOD Jack's absence from GC over Xmas and into the New Year is due to Peter Bergman needed emergency surgery due to a detached retina. Mishael Morgan had the same issue and Peter says they talked on the phone during his recovery. He returned to the set in time for the Y&R Xmas party. So it looks like Jack will be offscreen for a few weeks.

The stability of the cast is a double edged sword. It's great to see familiar faces and have that comforting connection. The downside is that years of marriages, kidnappings, brushes with death etc its hard to maintain interest as those characters are caught in repetitive cycles. Victoria blathering on how Ashland is the love of her life, she's never been happier and her wedding day is her best ever loses its luster when she said the same thing on 5 or so previous occasions.

To compare Nick's intro in 95(?) under Bell to Devon is a little unfair in that as we know Bell's approach has never been duplicated under successive regimes. Look at Reed and Noah - the next generation of Newman males -aged up and given very little to do. Reed has disappeared and Noah is on what, his 3rd recast? He's still an ill defined character. Same with Kyle-he came and went until Michael Mealor, and you could still argue that the character wasn't ever consistent. Scott, Fen, Charlie , Mattie -the list goes on. Devon was merely the first in along line of partially ignored and poorly written characters.

Y&R and B&B Early 2022 spoilers
Y&R has so many off camera characters with potential that a soft revamp is definitely possible. Fen, Scott, Reed, Ronan, Ana, Tucker, etc etc.

Jeanne definitely spoke out that she hated the story. Making Devon Katherine's grandson was adding insult to injury. It was just the culmination of one misjudged story decision after another. Having Devon as a billionaire is a story dead end. I proposed the same outcome years ago. And Katherine discovered her daughter became a nun and devoted herself to good works before dying. That would have wrapped up that story for good. Instead we had Tucker, who happened to be Katherine's son, and happened to have an affair with Harmony, who gave birth to Devon, who happened to be adopted by Neil etc

Thanks for that clip.It really illustrates how the directing was part of the story telling. We even had that 'soap' shot where both face the camera, so one is actually talking to the others back. I think, (wrongly) that has been deemed as old fashioned. My point is that once upon a time, there was dry blocking and dress rehearsal etc so the actors/camera people had time to co-ordinate all these moves and make changes etc. Whereas now I think they only have a quick run through and then tape, so there isn't the time available to execute the director's vision. Occasionally there are some interesting angles used but overall nothing of this level.
