  1. Yes I get the feeling Eric feels Victor should still be the lead male on the show and be written as the same character as 20 years ago. He seems pretty much to rely on cue cards now and spends most of his time seated. I wish he had have (at least) semi retired on his 40th anni and bowed out gracefully, just making guest appearances - or even allowing Victor to be killed off!
  2. Yes I think it was a clash of approach. Perhaps Eric, coming from primetime and movies did feel as though he had more experience and should be accorded respect for that, and Peter was more about the here and now. Kinda like Eric - 'You know when I did a Barnaby Jones etc' ...
  3. AMC - creating a front burner young love story b/w 2 totally new characters Cliff and Nina. Until then AMC had pretty much relied on the Tyler and Martin families to create story. Although it was short term gain as the writers got a few good years from the pairing then there was nothing left .Once Taylor Miller left, Cliff didn't seem viable.
  4. Good question. I think the first major recast would have been the lead on 'First Hundred Years' I guess there would have been an announcement as viewers would have been surprised and puzzled as to why there was a different face onscreen.
  5. Rosemary Forsyth had a very stern countenance - not a lot of the vulnerability needed for Alice.
  6. Sally is no angel but the wrath poured down upon her from almost every character is way too much. Jack can forgive Victor and Phyllis but he treats Sally like she's personally responsible for Covid.
  7. Love those summaries Dion. Did Jessie appear in that timeframe?
  8. Jada is certainly an out there choice. No denying she is a great actress but I can't see her as Alice. Jada as Carolee worked in that physically she fit the look for Carolee. It's like suggesting Jacquie Courtney could have stepped in as Carolee. I think recasts work best when there is some sort of physical resemblance. That's how its mostly done.
  9. Congratulations! As Agnes Nixon said 'Make them laugh, make them cry, make them WAIT'
  10. Since the wedding I have tuned out, again relying on recaps and skimming through downloads as there is NOTHING of interest going on. The wedding was a bust. Taking a bunch of characters to a new locale for a marriage where the groom is suspect and you would expect high drama. A murder? an attempted murder? Victoria turning on Ashland as she takes her vows? Ashland disappearing? Jack banging Phyllis? An original character returning with a secret? But no, just the usual conversations in a different setting. It was expected that a couple of new sets would keep us enthralled. So after that it's back to more of the same in GC. Poor Jack, no workplace, no family and now no home. Just wandering into frame on his cell phone surprised to once again run into Phyllis one sleeve and then devoting his time to listen to her self indulgent blather. They should have saved the money from Tuscany to create some offices, populate the sets with extras and give the women some classy clothes. Does Morina even watch the show? i'd be embarrassed to have my name in the credits as being responsible for this.
  11. From Jan 78 Lesley learns of trust when Laura leaves her wallet behind despite being covered by young nurse in training, Bobbie Spencer. This is the first mention I can find of Bobbie.
  12. My understanding is that Marland had already been hired before Monty. She approved of his story plans but not of the production of the first 4 1 hr shows and ABC agreed to retape them. Gloria must have been a force to be reckoned with. It would be interesting to watch those first 60 min shows and see if there was a real noticeable difference in the feel of those shows. Monty was the first to start taping out of sequence - did she do this immediately? I guess so which is why she wanted to redo those eps using her technique. She said something about using old tape editing machines she located at ABC.
  13. There must have been a lot of backstage turmoil at GH at this point with headwriters changing in a matter of weeks. Guess it was the returning Hollands who introduced Lamont and Katie Corbin and dropped Adam Streeter. Marland pretty much continued the stories. Although David Hamilton might have had a different story projection? It seems Marland's only major move initially was introducing Bobbie.
  14. Mmmm... not sure that the primetime shows were looking at daytime for inspiration, apart from using the soap conventions that had been around for decades eg illegitimate children, affairs, amnesia etc thinking of Y&R's 80's stories I can't offhand remember them being used in someway in primetime. Nikki faking illness to hold onto Victor Ashley having an abortion and ending up in amental institution Jack sexing his stepmother and then being blackmailed Patty shooting Jack and then not remembering John and Jill's bitter divorce and her getting part of the Jabot
  15. Often those publicity pics make them look better than onscreen. i would have been happy with John Driscoll. We have nu Faith, nu Noah etc so an 'original' would be nice.
  16. This episode features Susan, at that point married to Dan but getting involved with Bruce Baxter. Also Paul Stewart, David,Ellen and Peggy Regan. Marie Masters looks great!
  17. Dick Van Patten Secret Storm 1966 Martha Greenhouse As The World Turns 1966 Marion Brash Love of Life Kathleen Draper (Janet Ward replaced her in June 66)
  18. Early GH had the most basic opening, not even any kind of logo.Just the title on a black background. When were the hospital background titles introduced?
  19. When he was on OLTL he was Jack Crowder. By the time he got a gig on GH, he was Thalmus Rasalala.
  20. Radio actor Michael Romano had many soap roles in the 30's and 40's in Chicago and the New York. When he moved to LA he changed his name to Jay Novello and acted in radio then TV and movies for many years. Alan Feinstein (Mickey LOL, Jim EON etc) used the name Alan Yorke early in his career.
  21. I was referring to Jabot where Jack and (for some reason) Mariah work. Mariah and Tessa were sharing a dingy apartment , then moved to the Chancellor estate before getting a room at the Garish Plughole.
  22. They've been shown in the corridor and in Adam's office but not in a space of their own. I'm going to include Phyllis, as wandering around the lobby of the Greasy Pelican doesn't count as a workplace. Elena is till living above CL. She referenced it a few weeks ago,
  23. Nicholas has joined the not so exclusive club of characters without homes. By my count Lauren/Michael Kevin/Chloe Nate Elena Sharon/Rey/Faith Sally Characters without workplaces Jack/Mariah Nate/Elena Devon Kevin/Rey Gloria Sally/Chloe Amanda/Imani Michael Have I forgotten anyone? Makes it hard to tell good story in cafes and hotel rooms. I was hoping after the palazzo for an improvement in this area but no dice.
  24. Love Ia Many Splendored Thing also had Laura/Mark/Iris around that time The Dan/Paul/Liz/Susan seemed to take off in 69 when Irna was still there. Everything I have read says she left in early 70. That means she was responsible for the Dan fathering 2 kids story which she later was reported to be against. Seems odd that when she returned in 72 she continued the story for months and then started decimating it by killing off Liz and Paul and writing off Dan and Susan. Unless she thought the whole thing was too convoluted and she got bored and wanted to write for other characters? Katherine Babecki is listed as an ATWT writer in the 60's and there is a belief that this was actually Katherine Phillips.
