Y&R: May 2026 Discussion Thread
At this point it seems CBS/Sony care more about ratings and staying within budget than the quality of the writing. I'll keep saying this until it happens. Josh Griffith needs to go.

Falcon Crest
Hahaha. For sure. Jane Wyman was not looking healthy during the final two seasons but I think budget mode also played a part in her episodes being cut in the final season. We know Jane Wyman acted only once after Falcon Crest and that was her 1993 guest appearance on Dr. Quinn but she lived until 2007.

Y&R: May 2026 Discussion Thread
How many addiction storylines has Y&R had? From what I recall: Katherine - alcohol Traci - diet pills Brent Davis - alcohol Phillip III - alcohol Nikki - alcohol and painkillers Billy - alcohol and gambling Neil - alcohol Daniel - porn Jack - painkillers Nick - painkillers I think Nick Reed was introduced as an alcoholic. I can't remember if the initial Victor back story mentioned Albert Miller being an alcoholic or if that was something added later.

Time Slot Shifts that Worked.
Seinfeld, two test runs on NBC Thursday 9:30 pm, 1990/91 mid-season and 1992/93 mid-season. 1993/94 Seinfeld moved to Thursday 9 pm and we know the rest. Friends first season 1994/95 originally Thursday 8:30 pm then mid-season moved to 9:30 pm, hammocked between Seinfeld and ER. 1995/96 Friends moved to Thursday 8 pm and we know the rest.

It also helped L.A. Law that Knots Landing was weakened.

I hold the Cosby/Cheers era of NBC Thursday to much higher regard than the Seinfeld/ER/Friends era of NBC Thursday.

1983/84 NBC premiered Night Court mid-season Wednesday 9 pm and that lead to Family Ties moving to Thursday 8:30 pm. Also 1983/84 NBC moved Cheers from Thursday 9:30 pm to Thursday 9 pm. 1984/85 NBC new Thursday line up was 8 pm new comedy The Cosby Show, 8:30 pm Family Ties, 9 pm Cheers, 9:30 pm Night Court, and we know the rest. 1984/85 ABC premiered Who's the Boss Thursday 8 pm but after 2 episodes it was moved to Tuesday 8:30 pm for the remainder of the season. 1985/86 Who's the Boss was moved to Tuesday 8 pm where it would take off. 1991/92 ABC moved Full House from TGIF to Tuesday 8 pm where it became a Top 10 show.

1984 the legal drinking age was raised from 18 to 21, maybe that's why so many movies and sitcom special episodes about underage drinking in the 1980s.

Time Slot Hits
The Mississippi might have worked Friday 8 pm, but that would mean moving The Dukes of Hazzard. CBS tank jobbed a good number of their 1970s holdovers in the mid-1980s but they kept The Dukes of Hazzard at Friday 8 pm right until the end.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
But was Alexandra initially interested in running Spaulding or was it more about beating Alan? During the Calhoun era Alexandra was shown as being business-minded. Your breakdown is pretty good and helpful for a viewer to fill in the gaps. Going by the timeline, Beverlee McKinsey arrival February 1984 and Chris Bernau first departure May 1984, so this makes sense.
