I can so relate! I was the only CBS fan among the soap fans in my friend group/classmates. They were mostly Days fans and some General Hospital/All My Children fans.

It was the combination of JLB early announced departure in February 1982 (JLB would be gone August 1982) and MTS real-life pregnancy (MTS older daughter was born September 1982, Nikki gave birth to Victoria on screen November 1982) that shifted Bill Bell plans for Lorie, Victor, Nikki.

MTS has said that Victor/Nikki were an accident pairing and it was Bill Bell that saw the connection between her and EB before they themselves did. The audience clearly saw the connection too, since the My Fair Lady storyline took off.

So Erica Hope original recipe Nikki Reed could have been another vixen from a working class background all about the come up in the vein of Brenda Dickson original recipe Jill. Of course Jill was more street smart than Nikki. Melody Thomas Nikki Reed didn't come across as being all about the come up but she got the come up when she became Mrs. Victor Newman.

CBS thought Knots Landing at Thursday 9 pm could finish off The Colbys but that backfired because Cheers weakened Knots Landing. I don't think CBS was trying to tank job Simon & Simon. NBC tank jobbed Hill St. Blues with the move from Thursday 10 pm to Tuesday 9 pm, where Moonlighting finished it off. L.A. Law first Thursday episode was December 4, 1986 and it was Jeanne Cooper first appearance as Gladys Becker. I see what you did there NBC.

1986/87 CBS messed up their Thursday line up. Simon & Simon was DOA vs. The Cosby Show. Knots Landing got weakened vs. Cheers. CBS would move Simon & Simon back to 9 pm and Knots Landing back to 10 pm but the damage was done. Knots Landing got further weakened when NBC moved L.A. Law from Friday 10 pm to Thursday 10 pm. Simon & Simon was effectively over by the end of the season but CBS kept it for another two seasons.

Agree. Laura was the heart and candor of the group. She kept in everyone in check and would not hesistate to call anyone out and put them on blast. Knots Landing went off the rails for me in the aftermath of Laura departure. I love that Constance McCashin has always kept it real by saying she was salary dumped.

Of Y&R's late 1980s big three recasts, I'd say Jess Walton was the most successful.

Seasons 3-5 were the height of popularity but weaknesses were showing. Aaron Spelling entire goal was to be bigger and better than Dallas and storytelling logic and acting ability went out the window. Aaron Spelling went all out to the biggest and best, mainly by cashing in on Diana-mania.

Why was the Cascade box near the food prep area? Still, nothing tops the love scene Tide shot.
