  1. Nancy Curlee left March 1994 yet JFP remains until May 1995.
  2. Bill Bell stepped down from B&B in 1993 and he passed away in 2005, so it's possible his health issues began around 1994 or 1995.
  3. Bradley brought Sheila back because B&B started tanking after Sheila's goodbye party. Sheila was played out by the end of her second run and she then became Bradley's "break glass in case of emergency" character.
  4. John/Mamie abruptly ended when Mamie took Jill's $1M and went on a cruise. I loved how years later it was revealed that Mamie turned that $1M into multiple millions.
  5. LOL at Kat today when she told Vernon "mom is behaving like a protagonist from a Terry McMillan novel".
  6. The P&G shows were not in a good place creatively in June 1994 (the start of OJ). As we saw in the 1990s ratings thread, the P&G shows were the bottom tier by the end of 1995. The P&G shows were effectively over in the aftermath of OJ. In that same era CBS was dealing with losing affiliates in major media markets and the sale to Westinghouse. I believe the cancel rumors first started in the early months of 1995 but really intensified in 1996. 1995 and 1996 B&B looked like it was preparing to expand to 1 hour (I'm guessing the expansion was to coincide with the 10th anniversary in March 1997) but as we all know that didn't happen.
  7. Neither did I. I have vague memories of remakes of The Love Boat and Fantasy Island in the late 1990s.
  8. I really hope Nicole does not enter thirsty thot/nasty ho territory. Save that for Hayley and Vanessa.
  9. @Broderick You have a really good memory of 1980s Y&R. I grew up in the 1980s and back then EB was "the scary guy on the show after The Price is Right".
  10. Andre got all up in Bill's face and I was living for it.
  11. You're welcome. Thanks for the additional info. I did not know the full history behind the sets.
  12. @DeeVee As we saw in the 1980s ratings thread, the real issues began in the late 1980s with Iran-Contra, Nielsen people meters, and the 1988 writer's strike, and everything culminated in the aftermath of OJ.
  13. @soapfan770 My rankings: 1985-Val seeing the twins alive 1984-Karen is shot and Abby kidnapped by the Wolfbridge Group 1983-Gary left rotting in jail while Karen realizes Chip is the one who killed Ciji 1982-Val walking in on Gary & Abby 1981-Sid’s car going over the cliff 1980-Gary falls off the wagon and gets back on. 1986-Karen is kidnapped 1987-Abby hiding and burying Peter’s body 1988-Jill’s torture of Val 1989-Paige left standing in the rain while Mac gets skunked 1990-Paige being stood up at her wedding, Jeff is Karen’s stalker 1991-Brian Johnston disappears and then paintball madness/shenanigans. 1993-Abby moving back into Knots Landing 1992-Meg goes missing and Pierce turns up alive in Paige’s care
  14. @Speed Racer Whether we like Reva or not, she was GL's definitive character of its final 25 years. I believe Kim Zimmer returned spring 1995 for a short arc but then returned permanently that summer and remained until the end.
  15. That's right, today marks 46 years in the game. Maybe someday EB first episode will surface. It was the combination of EB acting and Bill Bell writing that made Victor character arc a success. We saw Victor go from short-term villain to anti-hero/romantic leading man plus the backstory of his painful childhood (abandoned by both parents and growing up in an orphanage) and becoming a self-made man. Bill Bell saw what EB brought to Y&R, changed the initial storyline, and we know the rest. I quoted Bill Bell's own words on Victor Newman from the 1997 book Worlds Without End: The Art and History of the Soap Opera earlier in this thread. 16. Gina's set was 30 years old in 2003 so I thought it was retired because maintenance costs were an issue.
  17. 1982/83 was CBS sitcom transition season. M*A*S*H ended, Newhart premiered, The Jeffersons and One Day at a Time fell out of the Top 10, Archie Bunker's Place ended, and Alice was moved around the schedule (from Sunday 9 pm to Wednesday 9 pm, Sunday 9:30 pm, Monday 9 pm, Sunday 9:30 pm) which lead to a Top 30 fallout.
  18. @Soapsuds That ad is for the episodes of February 1, 1980.
  19. September 1992-January 1993 wasn't bad but the big cast departures of the summer (Kimberley Simms, Sherry Stringfield, Beverlee McKinsey) left a noticeable void in the canvas. Then of course came Maureen Bauer death and GL was never the same after that. Aftermath of Maureen death until Nancy Curlee left the writing team was a chore to watch, but at least we got to see Michael Zaslow finally get his long-awaited for Lead Actor Daytime Emmy.
  20. Shanice is a nurse. She knows all kinds of nasty stuff is on worn undergarments.
  21. Roger visiting Maureen's grave was one of MZ's most memorable scenes from his 1989-1997 run. I thought that scene should have been on his Emmy reel.
  22. You're welcome. Yeah, 1997/98 was pretty bad as well. The final five seasons of the 1990s (1995/96 to 1999/2000) were on the whole not very good.
  23. I posted this article about 1995/96 earlier. I've quoted it this time in case the link has a paywall. Who Lives and Who Dies on TV - The New York Times
