  1. Not necessarily, especially if they had transitioned Nate away from the work of performing actual medical procedures and into the administration of medical care or even have him gravitate to the field of biotechnology. He would likely spend more time in an office, in front of a computer poring over algorithms and spreadsheets. He could still have maintained some semblance of connection to the medical field while having a foot in the business world. Also, it may have put Nate in a position that would come with developing and holding a cutting edge product that perhaps Newman or Chancellor/Winters would want, putting the character in more of a position to bargain instead of begging to work at these companies. I do realize though that Josh doesn’t really want to give these companies or characters actual products to produce or market besides clothes. It made no sense to put someone with the specialized skills of a doctor and shove him into generic marketing of communications.
  2. What a lasting legacy Norman Lear has been able to leave behind. Those television shows will endure. We should all be so fortunate. R.I.P. to Ms. Friedman. Life Goes On was a mostly sweet and optimistic series and what regular viewer didn’t feel joy for Corky when he found a special connection with that special someone?
  3. Being that ATWT is my favorite all time soap opera, I would gladly take up that challenge. It would be bittersweet because of the stalwarts that we’ve recently lost, especially Kathryn Hays, Elizabeth Hubbard and Lisa Brown. The weaving of a newer generation of Oakdale residents (Hope Dixon, etc.). It would’ve been wonderful to have seen Kim as a grandmother to a Hope who returns to Oakdale as a young woman and is finding the adjustment difficult to make, and a strengthening of the relationship between Lucinda and Lily and Holden’s youngest kids, not to mention seeing them with Iva and the tension that might have caused. Such a shame that we never got to see it.
  4. The show missed a golden opportunity to have the Newmans actually try to get medical help from Nate once they returned to GC. Perhaps Victoria suggests Nate help treat Nick’s stab wound, as the family wants to keep the whole incident quiet. Victor is resistant to going to Nate but doesn’t want what happened to get out either and thinks Nate could be their best bet. Although this would risk someone other than Victor Newman having the upper hand so, the show probably would never think of doing this.
  5. Thank you! Last night, I was watching the December 8th episode, dubbed in German. IMDB listed him as having credit in the December 5th episode, but when I had watched that episode previously in the Vault, Terry Lester actually appeared in that cliffhanger December 5th episode, although I realize that many continuing dramas liked to list actors in the credits before they make their onscreen appearance.
  6. This is very sweet and it’s so nice that Lee is well and can enjoy this milestone. Congratulations to her! https://nitter.net/BrendaLeeChart/status/1731818592239235416#m
  7. Thanks. I may just check March ‘87 then.
  8. While I was on a YouTube channel that posts many soap opera episodes from the 1980s and 90s, I saw an actor in the screenshot of an episode of Search For Tomorrow whose face I recognized from an episode of The Golden Girls but I didn’t remember his name, so I did some sleuthing on IMDB and deduced that his name is Brett Porter. Apparently, he subbed for Terry Lester’s Jack Abbott for a few episodes in December 1986. I remember the storyline of Paul’s centerfold photo going “viral” in an 80s way but I don’t remember anyone filling in for Terry Lester. There is an episode in the Vault but it’s in German so I can’t really get a clear idea of Porter in the role but he does look the part.
  9. Wow, so Caso was indulging in an early example of “slut-shaming”? How very provincial of him. Perhaps as a heterosexual male, Caso could only see women in a Madonna/whore dynamic. I don’t know what his problem was. At the risk of incorporating trendy terms like “sex positivity”, but from a 21st century perspective, Smith’s version of the character seems infinitely more interesting to me. Even watching now, her Emily seems more layered. She wasn’t just about sexiness, she was also stoic and ambitious and knew she had vulnerabilities and tried to mask them. She knew that some people might have had a low impression of her but if those people didn’t pay her bills, she would shrug and keep it moving. Of course, she cared about those closest to her, those she loved and respected or those who could negatively impact her ambitions, like I said, she’d keep it moving. I will always remember that the denouement of that storyline where she outmaneuvered her ex-lover Tonio for a principal position at M&A by forming an alliance with Craig, Tonio’s arch nemesis and Emily’s ex-husband Holden. There’s that image of Emily, feet propped up on the desk in the head office with their fingers laced behind her head, the satisfaction spread across her face. Tonio, to his peril, underestimated her and was made to regret it. MS played those dramatic notes to perfection. I enjoyed watching that tension between the vulnerability and the unyielding brass of the character. I think that was mostly gone when KM took over the role, but I guess that was intentional.
  10. I see what you did there with the tag @Khan, lol. Has this situation gotten any better from the last piece of news?
  11. Years ago, I think someone posted a snippet of an interview with Colleen McDermott where I think she admitted to being quite “green” and not really doing all that well in the role. The scenes between Colleen’s “Emily” and Jon’s “ Holden”, I think they both looked lost, and not in a good way. They just didn’t seem to really know how to pull off a scene. That probably helped Marland see Holden and Lily in a fresh perspective. Byrne had more experience and could pull Hensley along, whereas Colleen…well, they were both sinking like stones to the bottom. Watch this space @Veebecause Melanie Smith’s “Emily” is an entirely different dynamic. Also @Vee, you should probably watch more of the conclusion of the Tad Channing mystery episodes because there will be a bit of a recounting of what happened and it might be made a bit clearer about what happened to Tad in the sequence of events. There used to be some clip on YouTube entitled “Hal finds out “ or some such title. If you type it in the search bar with 1986, you might find those scenes. It actually contains some compelling scene work from Marie Marshall. It’s well worth a look, if you can find it.
  12. Monica Seles turns the big 5-0 today! The WTA ought to post a few of her matches on their YouTube channel. Wherever she is, I hope she is having a great birthday.
  13. For years, I have been saying that any new writers should be given a stack of the top 20 episodes of the soap opera that they intend to write for, even before hiring occurs, so they familiarize themselves with the history and DNA of their prospective show, make sure that they are capable of writing in the basic style of that show. Every popular daytime drama that has ever aired for more than two years has a particular style of storytelling. Any writer worth their salt should be able to replicate that style—that is Writing for the Stage & Screen 101.
  14. What an absolute sociopath.
  15. After listening to the memoirs of Kerry Washington and Jada Pinkett Smith via audiobooks and a sprawling historical novel, I am once again listening to another audiobook memoir, this time from John Stamos. My ears really pricked up when he began to talk about the segregation in soaps of Black actors and meaningful storylines that he described as a kind of “Jim Crow segregation”. He talked about the one fully developed storyline for Black characters that occurred on the show during his time their and how rare it was.
  16. A large faction of my family would agree more with the take presented in Rolling Stone. There are definitely people who lived in Latin America and the Caribbean, as my family did/do who saw the policies of the U.S. via Kissinger as undermining, if not ruining aspirations of sovereignty and self-rule for many nations in the region.
  17. Wow, I didn’t know that either. Considering how much the show would go on to struggle with casting Paul over the years, I hope they regretted that decision. His boyish looks would have came in handy when the show decided to SORAS Jennifer, then Will, all Barbara’s children would likely have been able to form a more cohesive unit. It seems like that ‘let’s replace him because he’s not hunky enough for our show’ approach would land the ax on Scott DeFreitas as well.
  18. I wasn’t able to click on until almost the very end, where Colleen was holding back tears talking about losing her son, about the same time she lost her mother and advocating for mental health care, while Alan ends the livestream with a “that was fun!” or some such remark. My. God.
  19. Perhaps other leaders will now feel “safe” to crawl out of the “global sewer” but I really don’t understand why some people didn’t recognize how truly awful a human being is Musk until now. Why didn’t these folks leave X when Musk took over the platform last year? He was just as awful last year at this time. It reminds me of all those folks who insisted that we all have a “wait and see” attitude when Trump was rising to power and even after his hideous inauguration speech, while some of us continually cited evidence of his racism and predatory behavior. At this point, I doubt that people will ever learn. The optics of Musk and Netanyahu together in Israel are truly awful. It really appears that Gazans and Israelis have the worst leaders possible at this moment, leaders that seem bound to making sure that the people will be in continuous conflict, if not all out war. I peeped who Netanyahu was in his treatment of Obama ,who Netanyahu seemed to regard as being beneath him. I am at the point where I barely want to read a newspaper because I feel like I am constantly reading about leader after leader making ruinous decision after ruinous decision and then the people who keep them in power or threaten to elect even more extreme figures to replace them.
  20. Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, announced her very public exit from “X”, referring to the social media platform as a “global sewer”. What took her so long to leave? How has Musk and his platform suddenly become unbearable after all this time?
  21. If Jordan can fool this Victor into drinking a bottle of poisonous water, Babs could’ve laced his wine or beer. The seduction would have nothing to do with romance, if we’re still talking revenge.
  22. Barbara Ryan would be a lot smarter than Jordan, especially 80s Babs. She would have juiced Victor to finance her latest venture, seduced him and let Nikki discover the affair, this driving her back to the bottle organically, all while befriending Victoria on the side and kept it going for months before everyone discovered that she and Victor had not actually slept together, she just bamboozled everyone, including Victor,
  23. Aha, thank you. It could be an alias then.
  24. Iconic song. May Ms. Knight R.I.P.
