  1. It doesn't surprise me, tbh. There was a recent survey here in the U.S. about BLM and George Floyd and support among white Americans has dropped significantly. Risen, are the numbers of people (again, white Americans) who believed, in some way that George Floyd brought about his own killing by the police. Support can be conditional sometimes, perhaps never genuine in the first place, which looks to be the case here.
  2. The reality is that those Netflix and Spotify deals will likely net double what Harry's inheritance from his mother gave him. If Meghan is a gold-diggers, then she's a damn good one because she's bringing up gold Harry didn't even have before he met her. Shiiiiit, can I get that type of gold-digger too?!
  3. I think it would be sadder to see someone who is pushing 40 hanging out at clubs and pole dancing. The Nazi costume alone was a cry for help.
  4. I saw this yesterday afternoon and it was a fun watch. I wish he would do something like this with Melissa Hayden, Monti Sharp and Nia Long.
  5. Take it from someone who has written alone, as well as with a partner and a "team", writing by committee increases the odds of a very messy outcome. It's the reason for so many flops in Hollywood.
  6. Some of you are wilding out in this thread. Seriously. Like, I said, I speak to my own experience, no one else's. I spent months studying in London when I was younger, so I have first-hand experience there too. I have no delusions about what America is. Also, I have no delusions about England is. Both are f*ucking racist countries.
  7. Uh, I did in fact watch the interview before I posted a word in this thread. I cannot and would not presume to speak for anybody else.
  8. I am reading these posts on this smartphone and I hate it, so I missed the question, lol but that wouldn't offend me. I mean, as a light skinned woman, Meghan has had some privilege in the U.S. and she may have believed that she could make some changes from the inside, however naive that may seem. Having been raised by a black woman, I find it incredulous that she wouldn't have at least some knowledge of what racism looks like.
  9. The British royal family has been around for hundreds of years, and have been at the center of countless scandals and they're still around. They're "modernization" has only gone as far as their purse and how they have managed to maintain their establishment despite reduced public financial support. On a side note, Oprah really is the Queen of media! With all those ads that aired last night, you just know CBS was able to pay for several primetime lineups! Daytime TV wishes...! Could you imagine?! Any of these remaining soaps that are in the fire financial straits that I keep hearing about could actually build/restore some decent sets.
  10. Something that some will never understand: As a black person, as a black woman, neither money not social standing will ever protect you from racism. In theory, if you are not black, you might be able to partly understand on an intellectual, observatory level but you will never be able to fully understand the full breadth of what this means and how this feels. Did anyone see the experience that U.S. poet laureate Amanda Gorman talked abou over the weekend? This is a very common occurrence. I could personally tell you some stories. Education, stays and money don't mean a thing in these instances and guaranteed the line of people seeking to blame black women for their own suffering will be long. Yeah, and what about Andrew, who has been involved in scandals and scams (including the one involving ex-wife Fergie and her selling access to him with foreign businessmen) before. Man's got a track record, Meghan does not, ijs.
  11. It will be interesting to see what the reaction of governors of "Red States" to the offer of funds for Medicaid expansion will be, and if their constituents, after being eyewitnesses to mass suffering as a result of a pandemic will allow their governors to rebuff the offer, the way so many did in previous years. Good to see the specific mention of providing proper ventilation to schools. Hopefully, not just schools (though this was a major concern, as I mentioned last year) but municipal and public buildings, churches and housing will be able to make improvements to the air filtration and ventilation systems, as poor indoor quality has been a significant problem, even before the pandemic.
  12. Sewell's bill is also a good dose of pragmatism, which sometimes gets a bad name from the left flank of the Democratic party. For those who may not be up to speed with the bill that Sewell has been proposing:
  13. Wait, Jeffrey Scott passed away too? Didn't he briefly portray Billy Lewis?
  14. Apparently, Eileen Fulton didn't remind people enough, by the way she was cast aside and disrespected towards the end of ATWT. If I were her, I would have been referring to myself as "The Original Daytime Bad Gal" every chance I got, in a true "I'm Britney, Bitch" fashion. They may not have liked it at first, but they'd remember it!
  15. This is indeed sad news. Before many GL and ATWT videos were forced down (or coerced), I was watching a lot of GL and even revisiting the late 80s and early 90s we era and I enjoyed Hawke's relationship with his kids, especially Reva and Roxie. Just last year, or the end of 2019, I read his Wikipedia entry and couldn't help but notice his advanced years but thought it was great that he was still around and kicking. Now, that has changed. At least, we still have his performances. R.I.P.
  16. These pool reporters need to shake off the corrosion and do better. They got so used to dealing with basics that they've gotten dim-witted and intellectually lazy. They're being embarrassed for lack of due diligence and rightfully so.
  17. Wasn't there a character on ATWT named Hutch Hutchinson? But I digress, This was an interesting interview with Stacey Abrams. Much more nuance than what you may hear from a lot of political circles. Also interesting that she says that, from her work in GA, she observes that one cannot give up on certain states, and she includes the state of Ohio in this, which is the opposite of what I have heard many say in this past election. Very interesting listen.
  18. Very sad development about Jahmil French. He seemed very well liked by his Degrassi castmates and all who worked with him. His family must be devastated.
  19. Which is why I said that I watched because of the actors involved. Do I wish some other soap adjacent person had hosted? Yes, but sadly no one else did and I stull think the actors themselves had interesting things to say about the topics they discussed. More than this, I wish someone would have hosted a livestream or video discussion on the blindspots as well as the bright spots of AA characterization and involvement in daytime soaps, but no one with a platform seems interested in having that discussion.
  20. Someone in Y&R thread mentioned the word to describe their current sets, which inspired this post, lol. Since I almost never watch the show (or any daytime dramas) anymore, I felt weird about posting this thought in there. Also, the word "Ghastly", always tickles me, lol.
  21. The shrinking of sets that I am reading about in show threads feels a bit unsettling to me because it takes me back to the last years if some cancelled soaps. When soap sets become unsightly and the scripts are bad, it just doesn't seem to portend a bright future.
  22. Very interesting discussion that has been going on in this thread! It got me thinking about a number of things (my astonishment at the fact that Full House began in the 1980s, I always associate it with the 90s, Candace Cameron and I are in the same age group??) like the vagaries of the bygone era of Sunday evening sitcoms and family programming (Punky Brewster and Rags To Riches), which I guess might have been started by Disney and the Wonderful World Of Disney Sunday night programming, if I am not mistaken. About the show. Last night, I watched the final two episodes of Season 1 and my first impression was that the show leans heavily into 80s nostalgia, but I don't mind it. It's syrupy at times but there were some genuinely earned poignant moments throughout. The kids are well-cast. I can see why they wanted to make the two boys adoptees, to show how Punky, an adoptee herself would be open to adopting and fostering kids but honestly, I was perfectly fine with the aspect of the two boys being her and her ex-husband's biological sons, especially since the show is already leaning into Travis' Latinx heritage. Caribbean families (Puerto Rican and Dominican included) often have diverse skin hues and hair textures, between siblings, even with the same parents. They could simply have shown that Travis has a parent that looks similar to the two boys. Aside drom that, I would have preferred that the kids statuses be revealed in the second or third episode, rather than in the pilot episode, where it felt as if a LOT of expository details were being squeezed into the first episode. I can see both perspectives on the revelation of the identity of Punky's bio-mother. The story arc was interesting to follow over the course of the season, on one hand and it embued the show with a sense of gravitas that maybe distinguished the show from only having light content. OTOH, I think the "mystery could have been extended, at least to cliffhanger at the season's end. There might be room in season 2 for reversals though, as it is well established that Punky's mother is prone to acts of disappearance. As the episodes went by, you could notice improvement in the writing and cast interaction. It will be interesting to see how, with greater access to COVID-19 vaccines, there might be less tension in set, in regards to strict virus-mitigating protocols (the sanitization should be permanent though) and how the cast might be able to focus on acting and interacting and how that might affect the end product and what viewers see. It couldn't have been easy to film during these times, especially with such a predominantly young cast.
  23. Wait a...what??? Is this the new nickname? 😂😳😂🤣😭😂
  24. Did anyone catch the Black History Month discussion he had with former actors of GL? I'm checking it out now. I like the actors so I decided to give it a view. Sorry, I forgot to say where--The Locher Room on YouTube.
