Guiding Light Discussion Thread
That whole look of the Bauer home, while not traditional, really helped to make GL and the Bauer's feel like home. That fireplace, the kitchen, all iconic. It made GL stand out from the other soaps, and made the Bauer's also stand out compared to your typical soap family that the show should revolve around. Gawd I miss that show 🥲

Pick a Year and Name it's Best/Worst Soaps(s)
I would like to point out with Rauch, in 2001 and 2002 he really tried to tap into GL's budget, producing a earthquake, mudslide(involving Beth), a remolded Bauer kitchen, and that new Beacon set which before Ellen Wheeler, was fresh, spacious, and included multiple sets associated with it. Unfortunately it was too little too late.

Pick a Year and Name it's Best/Worst Soaps(s)
Re: Guiding Light 2001 was Lloyd Gold taking over from Claire Labine. His tenure started off ok, Claire Ramsey and Alan Spaulding were mixing it up in Springfield as antagonists in quite a few stories. I think you still had some of the Richard/Cassie/Beth/Edmund story playing out, and Edmund/Beth being featured heavily. Introduction of Gus Aitoro, and him mixing it up with Harley and Danny/Michelle. Blake/Ross were given a fatal attraction storyline involving law student Tory Granger. San Cristobal earthquake. Also you had Tony/Catalina/Marah/Romeo story playing out with Catalina's murder mystery. Gold's tenure seemed to unravel when he penned the time travel story involving Josh/Reva/Olivia. When Taggart joined in 2002, she attempted to bring Gold's storylines back down to earth and while attempting to honor the show's history(2002 was the show's 50th Anniversary on TV). Left off that you also had Harley being pregnant with Rick's baby, and it being revealed at the Bauer BBQ in 2001. I found that particular story fascinating, as O'Leary and Ehlers played very well off each other.

ARTICLE: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Casts Newcomer Allison Lanier in the Role of Summer Newman
Interesting, I wonder how this will play out on screen and whether she has chemistry with Mealor.

Y&R and B&B April (and late March) spoilers
Is it true that Rey's death happened off screen? If so I'm not surprised.

Emmerdale: Discussion Thread
Thats around the time I quit too; or maybe before that. Between getting rid of the Bartons and Whites, I gave up on ED. I tune in and out to see how they execute those watercooler moments, but honestly there's no longer a connection there between the show and I. I will say this about the recent Meena plot, it's interesting how little David and Victoria played in the resolution of this Meena story lol But with what took place BTS I'm not surprised. Sucks that this thread of the story was left hanging.

Pick a Year and Name it's Best/Worst Soaps(s)
For 2002 I would actually say it's a tie between Guiding Light and DAYS. This was also the year that Cwikly and Brash were in charge and had the show firing on all cylinders. The show really wouldn't be able to match that kind of quality after that.

ARTICLE: Peacock Orders Second Chapter of ‘Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem,’ Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell to Reprise Roles
I love this. Can't wait to see Kristian and Peter together again, didn't know how much I missed them until they were gone. 🥲

SON plan to save Days!!
-Fire Ron Carlivati. Keep the Cullitons and Broderick. I wouldn't fire Corday, but I'd put someone in place with equal say, if that's at all possible. Someone like Francesca James, Wendy Riche, or even Ed Scott.

Ron is such a lazy writer. It's ridiculous.

RC never learned his lesson from the Jess/Tess/Bess/Wes/Teenager story on OLTL, which practically mocked mental health issues.

GH: New Character on Contract?
And the same show that expects us to believe that Sonny is a mobster who is solely in the business of selling coffee beans.

Re: Doug Marland's plans for Kelly and Nola I could see Nola being torn between Quint and Kelly, and taking in consideration the chemistry between Tylo and Brown, Nola eventually choosing Quint in the end. The show seemed to also be setting something up with Josh and Morgan, so it was obvious they probably would have ended up together.

June Brown has passed, at age 95 😪 https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-60984231

YR actor out.
In a perfect world, Sharon would take some time to be alone, and try to find out more about her father, and whether she has any half siblings. Maybe eventually after that is played out, you can pair her again, preferably Nick.

Hopefully this arc involving evil Harmony isn’t as drawn out as Peter’s.

Personally, I don't condone what he did, but I understand why he did it.

Oddly, I see where both parties are coming from, Will and Chris. Both were in the wrong. Sucks that this will overshadow Will's first Oscar win, but it is what it is.

Another YR return
Thanks, I had blocked out that horrid Ian Ward storyline and his connection to Mariah.
-
Another YR return
Has any light been shed on Mariah's life before she came to Genoa City? Her childhood, etc?

YR actress returns (spoiler!!!)
Kyle's absence is definitely going to hinder this storyline; how do you bring back a character from the dead but not include their only child? JG will most likely write so that Diane and Kyle had a reunion off screen.
