Ever since Mylene Farmer and Laurent Boutonnant stopped writing/producing for her, she's been pretty boring--her last album (first without them) was lyrically flat and sounded dated, and not in the way I like. Not sure I'll even bother with this one, which makes me a little sad. Still, I know she's going for a more British audience, with more English lyric songs (which is worisome to anyone who's heard how piss poor her English pronounciation is when singing...)

This was their last massive hit, but I admit it took me nearly a year after getting their last CD to like this single--I prefered much of the rest of the album (which was more typical Xenomania production) to the 60ness and start/stop rhythm I guess--but it has finally really grown on me. I still wish Miss You Bow Wow Wow, one of those songs only Xenomania could do, was the lead single as planned.

I admit, I was one of those "bad fans" Alison Goldfrapp complained about who found their last album, the tinkly synth/folk (!) album largely a yawn fest. And I'm sure tons of critics AND hardcore fans are already all eagerly shouting sell outs about the pure 80s cheesefactor of their new album--by far their most instant and poppy yet, but I admit I kinda love it, especially the first half in which they hired a fave dance/pop producer of mine, Pascal Gabriel to add polish to their production (the second half, which they produced themselves is a bit more typical Goldfrapp mood music).

And as mentioned elsewhere, how could I not love a Moroder homage:

Much more of a guilty pleasure is Sophie Ellis Bexter's new one with Freemasons and Biffco (who collaborated together on a fave Kylie track of mine, The One, and Biffco of course have been her best recent production house). I hope this gets Sophie back in the UK charts, after her massive early '00s hits like Murder on the Dancefloor with their great videos, this one looks as cheap as the latest Dannii Minogue cheapie vid--but the powder effect is neat, and the song is a lot of dance/pop cheeze, fun. (Oddly, the New York Post gave it a good online review--I have no idea why they're reviewing UK dance records, but...)

The guy I'm seeing recently got into Frankmusik which made me pull back out my cd that I guess I got last year when it came out in the UK--it's really one of the best synth pop debuts in ages... 3 Little Words had lotsa club play (and was a major UK hit) but I'm getting more into some of the album tracks (the version I have has a fun acoustic remix CD as well)

Little Boots FINALLY got her album released (to way better reviews than I expected--though it deserves them) in the US--over a year after I got the Uk edition. Fantastic, well crafted collection of perfect electro dance/pop tunes, that I prefered over LaRoux who she's often compared to (simply cuz they're femlae based, synth pop acts from last Summer?)

Most of her album was done with my fave younger, current producer, Greg Kurstin who has done everything from jazz, to Sia, to everything with Lily Allen, to great disco Kylie Minogue songs.

First two Little Boots singles:

Oh I guess I have to wait before posting the last two videos :(

    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
