Don't you think he's "in like Flynn" for no other reason than Ken likes him? Ken doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders. He claimed a first for DOOL going from half hr to hour, which is AW's first, Jan 1975 with DOOL 2nd. And, he doesn't know Canada's same day now. He used to know everything! Something's changed.

I mean, no matter how you twist it they'll need to adjust for streaming somehow - soaps on broadcast are constructed the way they are because network heads knew that a lot of people didn't tune in daily, hence why you have certain DAYS of the week where more important things happen and some where there's obvious filler. On streaming that filler to fill airtime is pretty unnecessary if not something that will turn audiences off more than anything. The advantage they have now is that they'll have raw data to analyse - I can only hope they make the most of it; but it's also why it's a shame that they couldn't have given them a year to prepare for this move.

Sorry but that's what American soaps need: the envelope to be PUSHED! And I never said anything about One Life 2.0, because I actually hated it as much as the ABC 1.0! Only upside was Ron Carlivati wasn't writing it, so there was some improvement.

From start to finish. And the proposed AJ (sexuality) and Miranda (paternity) reveals prove they were doing long term story arcs.

If we're keeping it real here, NBC has not been successful in daytime for the better part of the last 45 years. I'm not surprised at all that they are the first network to have all their soaps come to an end. It's quite telling that their longest-lasting soap lineup in the last 45 years has been Days nearly 15 year period as NBC's sole soap.

I don't see any reason to relitigate the PP soaps in this thread, and I'm a dude who could talk about them til the cows come home lol. I already covered this in either this thread or the earlier one wherever Errol and I discussed it a few days ago and it's pretty OT, but I'll just say it again: Yes, Erika Slezak is 100% right that PP didn't know how to produce the show consistently because its owners were pure grifters, but I don't fully agree with her about not liking pushing the envelope or the more racy content, or the change in tone. I thought it was necessary to modernize some of that and a lot of it was done well, it's just that some of the stories weren't fully baked and production wasn't consistent, so style became the order of the day. Erika is entitled to her opinion; she also didn't care for Linda Gottlieb personally and professionally and loved the JFP era, and I still worship the ground Erika walks on despite vehemently disagreeing on that. I do certainly agree some of the stories at OLTL 2.0 needed work, but growing pains aside I think it was a pretty strong start for those short-lived shows overall. And that's the last I'm sayin' about it in here.

Yes i think both soaps were finally gelling with the new writers just hired but Jeff & Frank had no idea how to produce the shows and Ive heard they could rival Frons on micro management

Eric Nelsen told the Bay about AJ coming out as gay on AMC & when PP stopped the soaps, The Bay did that Story with his character Daniel

I love Greg Vaughan.  Swoon.  I could watch him read the dictionary.  So I don't mind this promo, LOL.  Although I found myself just looking into his eyes and ignoring the content of his words.

Cool fact:  Greg Vaughan is in TWO promos released a few days apart:

This promo for DAYS being exclusively on Peacock starting Sept 12.

The other promo is for Queen Sugar Season 7 starting Sept 6 - I put that promo on the Queen Sugar thread. >link<

Thank you for that info! I just did some research and Peacock's spend for content in 2022 is $3 billion according to MoneyGeek. When you compare the budget for Days to the average streaming/broadcast series on the lower end, even if it's budget was $37 million per year, that would be decent. Broadcast/Streaming shows cost around $2-$3 million per episode so they're spending the same or more for an 8-10 episode season of a show than they would be on an entire season of 250 episodes of Days. With cuts, I wouldn't be surprised if Days' budget is under $30 million per year and in that case it's basically a steal for them if people watch it.

Spending $30 million on a show that can drive year round subscriptions is better than spending $30 million for 8 episodes which will get some attention, but die down once it's run ends.

When I was watching today there was a chyron after each commercial announcing the move to Peacock, it took up the bottom third of the screen and kind of distracted from the dramatic scene between Jennifer and Maggie

Hmmm.we didn't get that here. All we got was the tag promo at the end of cast credits with Marlena, Will, Kayla saying you better sit down announcement.

How much money did Peacock spend on sports @ChrisB ? That is what I am wondering as a lot of that airs on the streaming site.

    • In that way, at least we were fortunate.  The Daniel Pilon/Ron Raines decisions...not so much.
    • Letting Brennan put it in yet again while smirking over his shoulder... any day now! She's got him just where she wants him! I do think ol' Jack will be dead by February at the absolute latest. They have set him up as a counter-heavy to Sidwell, forcing poor Joss to work his next scheme or threatening to have her sent down for treason. Once he croaks I still deeply fear we will be subject to Valentin and Carly, partners in crime to lovers, possibly out to find out 'who killed Jack'. Anna was at her best keeping Sonny at arm's length and often somewhat cold, which she only really did (for better or worse) off and on during Carlivati's tenure. But Finola gradually got too emotional over Sonny, Jason, etc. and was allowed to do that onscreen too much long ago. Mulcahey brought some of that steel back, though Finola still managed to choke or quietly sob through some of that material as Anna found her way there lol. She's a brilliant actress and she did a good job with that stuff in '24, but now we're back to the same old and it humiliates the character whether she knows it or not.
    • Listen, I am all for Laura Wright wearing silly wigs and glasses if there was a point.  So far she's just been nice to Brennan and made out with him.  How evil lol!!  Even though I have been told Brennan loves her the writing was never there.  It's so low stakes.  Carly should maybe talk to her daughter and have an adult conversation instead. Laura and Anna look foolish.  I really don't have an issue with either being friendly or at least having some affection for Sonny.  I don't get both of them wanting to have a parade to announce how much they love him and how valuable the friendship is.  C'mon, Laura basically tolerated Sonny because of Luke until Lulu/Dante got together.  Anna likes Sonny because Robin did?  There really isn't much more of a reason for Anna to give him the time of day besides that.  They aren't lifelong buddies.
    • It is so dumb and is dragging on already after a couple weeks. By the time Carly wraps this up Joss will be running the local branch office. And yes, Laura deserves better. It's like they tripled down on this Sonny apologia stuff with her and Anna after the Mulcahey saga.
    • A white twunk with no purpose?? On Days of our Lives??!!
    • It feels like the show hired Hank Northrop first and are still deciding what to do with him lol. I don't have a judgement on the character yet, but this non-story (so far) has been happening for at least a month and he's only made 2 appearances lol. Also, this may be a stupid question, but is Chad's name really Chadwick?  I can't find any evidence of that in a quick google search, so I assume it's just a silly nickname Leo calls him?  I feel like I've heard other characters (EJ?) call him that though too.
    • I know Anita mentioned that she no longer was investing in the trust, while Leslie had stated that the interest was multiplying at a decent rate... but I do have a feeling she'll wipe through the trust in a short amount of time with the amount of spending she's doing. The show always throws in tiny nuggets of foreshadowing and having Anita's remark and Eva warning her mother not to overdo the spending tells me that Leslie will be blowing through that money eventually.
    • I honestly don't care if Laura is friends with Sonny.  She's been friends with him for decades.  The way she goes about the friendship is stupid.   She has no sense of self-preservation or awareness about the optics of parading her friendship with Sonny around town.  She practically celebrates it.  There's no reason in the world she can't just keep the friendship low key and explain they share a grandchild and frame the relationship that way.  A lot of Laura's choices, like getting into a public fight with Dalton, just make her look silly and like a fairly incompetent mayor. Carly is another PC lady that's starting to look silly.  I know she's explained her plan a lot, but it's still stupid and moving at a glacial pace.  If Joss is 45 by the time her revenge plot unfolds, what's the point?  Just dump Brennen and move on please.
    • On that same note, it's astounding to have mobster Sonny in the same office with Mayor Laura chatting it up about their mutual grandson. Think about the reaction if John Gotti and Mayor Eric Adams had a friendship

?? I guess the Logic behind Sonny & Jason acceptance is like when i saw a documentary where FBI agents said they'd rather deal with the mafia than terrorists or cartels---they're the "lesser of 3 evils". Anyway I'm about 30 years late on this convo.
    • Im confused. Does Jessica know anything about June's relation to Tyrell? At the start of the episode, it seemed like June was gonna slip that he was her son but she caught herself but later in the episode she referred to him as "my boy" and Jessica had no reaction like that wasnt a surprise to her No, Anita was putting money in the account every 6 months but we werent told how much was in it when Leslie became a beneficiary. The show has set it up that it was multiplying based off the interest so that its really worth quite alot now. I dont buy it but thats what they've told us
