GH December 2020 Discussion

I just watched those Laura/Cyrus/Martin scenes. I do not blame Laura one bit for the WTAF facial expressions she had the whole time, especially when Cyrus and Martin were arguing.

And I can honestly say that I could see where Martin was coming from with his animosity towards Cyrus. And most surprisingly, I could actually see some insight into Cyrus’s underlying motivations.

That whole scene dialogue was amazing, and it didn’t require Laura to do much except acting as the audience proxy going WTAF the whole time. This is why GH is my fav out of the 4 soaps at the moment.

I'm glad that Laura is front and center, as she should be, but Cyrus and Martin being her brothers feels so random. Digging into Laura's history is nice, but now she has these nobodies as brothers. Cyrus is lame. I wouldn't mind MEK's character if they had him drop that horrible accent.

Julian's exit feels like it's been going on for years. These shootouts get so old.

It was very disappointing that Real wasn't there for the reunion with Trina. I can't believe they temporarily recast Taggert instead of just waiting to film those scenes. They really thought it was a good idea to do those scenes on the recast's first day.

I'm sure it won't last, but I like Sam kicking Jason to the curb. She actually looks like a smart, responsible parent doing this. It really makes Carly look dumb in comparison for sticking with Sonny. When your husband is so dangerous that your teenage daughter has to have a bodyguard, it's time to leave him. Also, it makes me laugh how baby Donna never gets mentioned. Why did they bother giving them another kid?

I agree 100% about MEK. He can stay if he isn't going to that AMC reboot. The Colonel Sanders accent can gradually be dropped like they did with Mac's Australian one years ago.

As for Cyrus, I get the sinking feeling judging by the reveal that they are setting up Laura to feel some form of sympathy because of his past, maybe eventually forming a poor man's version of the Vicki/Todd sibling dynamic. I hope I'm wrong though.

This

I agree it's nice and refreshing to see Laura front and center. I appreciate they dug into her history. I don't care much about Cyrus or Martin, but I do like MEK of course and Martin is slowly growing on me. The Colonel Sanders accent is comical but I assume he did it so people don't think he's playing Tad.

Sonny and Carly did NOT need Donna. Lord. Even the writers seem to forget about her at times. That says something.

I like the Sam and Jason conflict too. It needed to happen. Jason deserves to be alone. It's tiresome seeing a 50 year old play lapdog to an aging mob boss. It's almost a parody at this point. Time for something different.

I could understand the writers giving Carson Donna if there was a point.  And I think there was, it just got dropped.  Wasn't she a high risk baby or had a disease?  I guess it just for Carson having a bio child since Morgan is dead.  But Sonny/Brenda don't have a kid and that's his most famous pairing so it's just weird to give them a kid that means nothing.

I still find the JaSam angst fake.  She knew what she was getting into about 20 years ago.  Now it's a problem?

Everyone was worried that she was going to have spina bifida, but she had a surgery that corrected the problem. There was definitely interference from somebody. Either that or the writers just didn't know what to do with that story.

At this point it's pretty clear, along with the interference, that Chris and Dan don't really do a lot of plotting when it comes to story.

Binging through the end of November into early December. I have to admit I only really watch when Laura is on so it has been great seeing Laura back. I am loving seeing Laura recall the past as the Grey mystery builds but definitely Lesley is missing from this. It would have been great to see Lulu more involved and three generations in a story together-something we were neglected and only soaps can give.

Nice to see Taggart is alive but WTF with his working with Carly and Sonny.

Nice to see the cast being peeled back but they have a long way to go.

Ava and Nikolas should be front and center and Carly/Sonny/Jason/Sam can just fall into an abyss for all I care. I can't stomach seeing them as judgemental heroes any longer. I actually miss the Guza writing for them at least it was realistic and they were played for what they were.

Well she didn't actually have kids 20 years ago. It does feel forced to give them conflict but it's believable.

Yep, I think the only reason Carson had Donna was so Carly and Sonny would have a biological kid tying them together, even though we all know it's inevitable they bring Morgan back at some point. IMO. Not that I need or want to see it; but I could see some drama and potential. I'd have it come out that Morgan is Avery's biological father. But they can do it without him.

Well, Sam was pregnant like 17 years ago and was fine with Jason raising her Sonny spawn, but I am not much of a Sam fan.  So I can't be that objective about her.   I guess it makes sense, but Sam actively campaigned for Jason to impregnate her broken uterus for years lol, so I can't take her seriously.

I am shocked they haven't brought Morgan back yet.  Especially with BC letting us know he's available to come back lol.  Avery should 100% be Morgan's kid.  I do think he needs to be back.  All of Sonny's other kids are super boring.  I am not sure why Carson need a bio kid.  It doesn't solidify their love story one way or another.  Sonny has impregnated half the town, so WTG Carly?  I know this has been said a million times before, but Sonny has way too many kids.  There is no story for Kristina, but let's give Sonny 2 other daughters

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
    • I'm glad a lot of people are continuing to enjoy this show.

I haven't posted in a few weeks and have some catching up to do. But I did manage to look at the last two episodes after hearing about how good they were. I really enjoyed them. My thoughts on them: The affair/secret child reveal was very good. TMG was really good as Leslie, her whole confrontation with Ted/revealing all to the Duprees was very entertaining. I continue to love AM/Eva. She my top two favorites on the show (along with Nicole). I have a lot of sympathy for Eva and how she was conflicted/ultimately felt guilty about publicly revealing the truth to everyone. I wonder what will happen to her next, especially if she does go and live with the Doctor that is friends with Ted and Nicole. I lol'ed at how Martin/Smitty jumped up and grabbed Leslie when Eva was calling her crazy. The way they did that was funny to me. I haven't liked many of Martin's actions/his attitude especially regarding Smitty/his children, but I think it was interesting how he wanted to check Ted for his actions. And also wanted Bill to be questioned/confronted about his as well. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character of Andre, but I appreciated his calm and measured approach after the reveal and how he talked with Eva. I thought it was interesting that he knew about the affair and convinced Ted not to tell Nicole. Speaking of Nicole, I continue to love her character and view her as the heart of this show/Dupree family. I am interested in seeing where her journey goes as a character after this reveal. I'm looking forward to her leaning on Dani and (also Anita/Vernon, etc...) for a change.
