Racism and racial representation on soaps

Just to bring this back, you have a black actor speaking up but notice this was largely ignored. I don’t think any of his white cast members retweeted this. Lamon Archey at least has white cast members willing to openly support him, but overall this is the problem with black actors speaking out. The press ignores it and so so their costars so they’re left on an island by themselves. Especially in light of the overall Black Lives Matter movement I wish these casts would rally around their black cast members.

Like Lamon said, yes you have 3 black characters (in supporting roles), but you need more to tell a story. GH gives their black characters good screentime, but the characters are all talk to’s. Maya was one of the most successful new characters on B&B and now her entire family is gone. Y&R is not even worth mentioning, but my point stands. NONE of these soaps can say they’re proud of their black storylines and all need to do better.

Jennifer is very recastable.

Just kill her off. Bring Melissa back to console Jack. Done.

Wasn't Scott Reeves the uber Christian who basically converted her?

I mean, like everyone else I guess i tried to ignore it because I still liked the character of Jennifer, but yeah ... I wrote her ass off a long time ago.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sweeney was right there with her honestly. Recast Sami with Gina Tognoni and call it a day.

Wanna bet Missy goes nowhere? Do we know Corday/Alarr's political standings?

Yet Victoria Rowell gets spit on and speaks out and she's blacklisted. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE.

I think the list thing has to do with getting written proof someone is behaving badly. Also by using a picture of Michael B Jordan who was on AMC and barely written for who now leads in movies is telling. People are getting receipts of this and even if deleted on their feed it would not be lost.

I barely follow anyone who acts on soaps on Twitter and I know a few that are in the wrong. That said many want proof and give benefit of doubt again and again. If only due to cognitive dissonance and if they knew it for sure it would make watching that show or those people difficult.

Don't forget about Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa). On second thought, go ahead and forget her.

Martha Madison's is even better. If I knew how to post it, I would lol.

That man oozes sex appeal and is talented. He shines in every role he's in. Yet, B&B gives him scraps.

DAYS should fire Melissa Reeves this time.  I love Jennifer and have been a Melissa Reeves fan since her days as Jade Perkins on SANTA BARBARA. But she most definitely should be given  a  chance to apologize, I guess first.  IF she refuses, then fire her ass and re-cast.  Beth Chamberlin (ex-Beth, GL), Cady McClain (ex-Dixie, AMC, ex-Rosanna, ATWT, ex-Kelly, Y&R), Gina Tognoni (ex-Phyllis, Y&R ex-Kelly OLTL, ex-Dinah GL), Sandra Dee Robinson (ex-Amanda, AW, ex-Felicia, GH), & Krista Tesreau (ex-Mindy, GL, ex-Tina, OLTL) are some of the opts I've come up with who could take over as Jenn.  I think Beth Chamberlin and Sandra Dee Robinson are the best options looks wise.

Reeves is definitely expendable since her acting ability is hardly of Emmy caliber. Liking posts from someone who has defended Hitler and called black people chimpanzees is unacceptable. Candace Owens is a cover for racist white people because she pushes their views. In this climate it wouldn't surprise me if Reeves was fired.

    • Overall I was impressed with this week and fall out from the revealation.  I am looking forward to seeing the Nicole/Dana showdown next week.  I do wonder if June is going to be tied to Hayley.
    • I thought Adam and Sara got married? Although I do not remember any mention of her when Adam returned for Blake's weddings. But MA certainly got the short end of the stick storywise, as Marland's obsession with therapy reared it's head.
    • Didn’t Meg Bennett return to SFT as a writer in the last few years. I always wondered if they tried to get her back as Liza.
    • Millette Alexander got the short end of the stick once they killed off Joe. The Justin thing was a non-starter. Then she was briefly married to Alan's corrupt lawyer and HE was killed off. She was paired briefly with Adam and that ended because she believed Holly over Roger about the rape. Definitely, Marland had zero interest in her except as the therapist for the many, many of his female characters who needed therapy. It's not odd she left the show. One of the rare 1978 episodes on YT shows Alan going to Cedars for a physical check-up. He ends up with Sarah as his doctor. In between making mysoginistic comments about women doctors, he also openly flirts with her. It's very obvious they were chem testing Sarah and Alan. It's a really good scene. Bernau is both obnoxious and charming and Millette is amazing, trying to be pleasant and profesional without rolling her eyes at him, but at the same time maybe a LITTLE bit attracted to him. An interesting what-might-have-been. So it appears the Dobsons were actively looking for someone to pair her with, they just never found the right one for a long-term story.

You've inspired me to add my 2 cents about this product placement debacle.  I absolutely HATE the way they are doing product placement in BTG. I really hope this doesn't catch on or evolve into more and more of these moments. It's incredibly off-putting to place them in a highly dramatic moment where we are still on the emotional journey with the character. What is next - Dani spraying the house while having a nervous breakdown? It makes me not want to buy the product they're selling. LOL. That's just me.
    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
