Hahaha!

The first tried with that Wesley guy and even had Olivia get engaged. Then of course Damon had potential and pushed around in the beginning but by year’s end he burnt through the story fast so they gave him that odd backstory for a D-plot on the show. Finally they managed to snag Shemar back which was good except the writing wasn’t and somehow they (very foolishly) let Malcolm & Olivia just fizzle out by fall of ‘05. Just terrible.

In addition to Detective Webber(did he even have a romance?) there was a fine looking, decently acted Detective Gil Wallace who befriended the Winters family and briefly dated Tyra but the show discarded before he was further developed. Similar later to what the show did with Alex Chavez.

See, I feel the vast majority of these characters could’ve worked, but they were all underwritten and under-utilized. The fact that Lamon Archey is now a big soap Star from DAYS and couldn’t make it work on Y&R is a failure on the shows part. Same with Keith Hamilton Cobb. If they were truly invested in replacing Malcolm it would’ve worked. Same with the parade of actresses to fill the void of Dru.

Kevin Alejandro. He also played Lafayette's boyfriend Jesus on True Blood.

I loved loved LOVED KHC on AMC but Damon Porter was just weird, man. He was condescending to every woman he met despite the fact that every available woman on the canvas was throwing themselves at him (I can't recall, did he and Phyllis even sleep together?). He played the part super weird.

Detective Webber had no story outside of police work so I wouldn't consider him a Shemar replacement. He was just another in a long line of having black people play cops or judges or prosecutors in media. It fills a quota without having to give them actual story to contend with.

I never been so glad to have Coronavirus mess up my work schedule. Again. I hate to say...but...I don't think there is any old school pre-2006 for sure that does not have the ability to draw a casual/regular viewer in.

This being a case in point.

I work, and write on the side (or write, with some work on the side, take your pick) so I’ve been operating from home since mid-March, even before lockdown was imposed in the U.K.

Is it bad that I’ve been more excited for these older episodes than absolutely anything aired in the last 15 years?

And is it bad that I’m actually dreading the return of 2020 episodes? I mean, while other people may have had their relationships with each other tested during this time, my relationship with Y&R is at a crossroads (again).

    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
    • Nicole is way too smart to not know she was carrying twins - she's a doctor! My guess is that Leslie did abort her baby out of fear, and as payback, stole Ted and Nicole's child (Eva), and stole Kat from another family to replace her in the hospital.
    • Those Soap Central profiles have a lot of incorrect info. According to SOD summaries and the Daytime Newsletter of the time,Tim left town for a new job and Pam reunited with the father of her baby and also departed Springfield. They did not marry.
    • Do we believe that Jabot is at the level of Estee Lauder?? I am on board with Jabot deciding to expand but the way it was handled was ridiculous. Jabot just decided and bingo, that was that. Not months of negotiations and decisions about how it would fit into the Jabot portfolio. And then no follow through. Josh thinks he's serving business stories by characters sitting around and discussing mergers, takeovers and job switching. Now we have Audra setting up her own company -Vibrator or something. Well, why not? You don't need staff, office space or even products.
    • He a dirty dog! Those are his kids and he hurt everyone. At this point he needed to just come clean. I can't believe I was lusting over this man! I hope they aren't quick to forgive.
